Due to this year’s components shortage, chip maker TSMC may raise its part prices to Apple by 3% to 5%, which could lead to a similar increase in the price of the yet-to-be-announced iPhone 13.</p>\n<p>It is unlikely that one of the largest and most successful consumer product companies in the world would try to raise prices without confidence that doing so does not impact demand for the new iPhone substantially. He inferred it could be used for manufacturing or boring repetitive tasks, like grocery shopping and will have a full self-driving computer.</p>\n<p>As always with Musk and Tesla, the timeline is highly doubtful to anyone with basic knowledge of the technology in question. Fortunately, the antics did not fool everyone on Wall Street, some of whom may be getting tired of his shenanigans.</p>\n<p>“Unfortunately, as we have seen with robotaxis and other future sci-fi projects for Musk, we view this&nbsp;Tesla&nbsp;Bot as an absolute head scratcher that will further agitate investors at a time the Street is showing growing concern around rising EV competition and safety issues for&nbsp;Tesla,” said Dan Ives, a Wedbush Securities analyst, in a note to clients early Friday.</p>\n<p>The safety issues Ives mentions are what investors should be attuned to right now, because it appears the government is finally stepping up and taking note of a problem this column has long pointed out: Musk repeatedly oversells the current and near-term potential for his automotive autonomy advanced technology.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/JE\">Just</a> a day before Thursday’s “AI Day” spectacle,two U.S. senators asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate both Tesla’s and Musk’s “repeated overstatements of their vehicles’ capabilities”in regards to the marketing of Tesla’s “Full Self Driving” product. Tesla charges thousands of dollars at purchase (or as little as $100 a month) for software that is nowhere near full self-driving, a practice that has already led toa recent review by California Department of Motor Vehiclesanda German ruling that Tesla could not market the product as such.</p>\n<p>“Language matters,” said Selika Talbott, a professorial lecturer in the department of public administration and policy at <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AFG\">American</a> University in <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/WASH\">Washington</a> DC. “The use of this terminology is false and misleading and unsafe for the general public. The notions of assisted driving and autonomous vehicles and their differences are not fully understood by the general public.”</p>\n<p>“Tesla has highly assisted technology in their vehicle, but at no point should anyone behind the wheel think that vehicle can drive itself, because it can’t,” Talbott said.</p>\n<p>The week began with news of a federal investigation into Tesla’s Autopilot system after cars using the feature crashed into stopped emergency vehicles.The <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/NHLD\">National</a> <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/HIHO\">Highway</a> Traffic Safety Administration is looking into a series of crashesby Tesla cars that had the advanced driver-assistance system enabled. NHTSA said that itopened an inquiry into 11 Tesla crashesthat involved emergency vehicles, while still investigating a series of collisions involving cars enabled with <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AEIS\">Advanced</a> Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and tractor-trailers.</p>\n<p>The latest outcry on Capitol <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/HIL\">Hill</a> follows a stream of news reports and/or social media posts and YouTube videos of drivers engaging in extremely risky behavior while testing the so-called self-driving features of their Tesla. In May, Steven Michael Hendrickson,a 35-year-old father of two in Fontana, Calif., died when his Tesla hit an overturned semitruck. Earlier he had posted videos of driving without his hands on the wheel of his car on the freeway, but the NHTSA was still investigating the role of Autopilot in the crash.</p>\n<p>“The vehicles that Tesla is producing are driver-assisted systems,” said Bryan Reimer, a research scientist at the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics. “They are assisting the driver, and the driver needs to maintain vigilance.”</p>\n<p>It is important to note the difference between Tesla’s dual products with misleading names. “Autopilot” is an ADAS system, a highly advanced version of cruise control meant for highway driving that enables “your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically within its lane under your active supervision, assisting with the most burdensome parts of driving,” according to Tesla’s website. Tesla also offers the “FSD” package, now available by a subscription of $99 to $199 a month, which it describes as “access to a suite of more advanced driver assistance features, designed to provide more active guidance and assisted driving under your active supervision.”</p>\n<p>If only Musk described these systems in a similar manner to the official website. In analyst conference calls and in Tesla’s multi-hour long presentations to its fan base, Musk has been proclaiming that with this software, full autonomy is around the corner.</p>\n<p>“We&nbsp;basically&nbsp;have&nbsp;to&nbsp;solve&nbsp;real-world vision AI and we are,” he said in an earnings call in April. “And the key to solving this is also having some massive data set. So just having well over <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> million cars on the road that are collecting data… But I am highly confident that we&nbsp;will&nbsp;get&nbsp;this&nbsp;done.”</p>\n<p>But for all of Musk’s bluster and huge fan base, investors are starting to note that the company’s tactics involving full self-driving technology are dangerous, as opposed to the other companies that are testing autonomous vehicles.</p>\n<p>For example, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/GOOG\">Alphabet</a> Inc.’sGOOGGOOGLWaymo, the company with the most hours of autonomous vehicle driving, is currently operating a small scale robotaxi service in parts of Arizona around Phoenix that are not densely populated, without human drivers. It is the only one of its kind in the U.S. In California, Waymo has permits from the DMV to conduct AV testing with a human driver behind the wheel.</p>\n<p>“Waymo cannot just start selling their AVs to anyone, and they can’t just drive them on the roadway, our regulatory system does not allow for that,” Talbott of <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AMSWA\">American</a> University said. “You can test them but no publicly available self-driving car is on the market for purchase because it doesn’t exist.”</p>\n<p>With FSD testing being done in the real world with untrained drivers, Tesla is conducting the equivalent of clinical trials of a new drug without any professional hourly or daily monitoring of the patient.</p>\n<p>“They are calling it beta, it is a beta system, they are exposing people to substantive risk,” Reimer said.</p>\n<p>Musk’s latest bot is yet another distraction, much like the flame thrower in 2018 sold by his Boring Company, his unwanted assistance to try and help the boys stuck in a cave in Thailand, and other projects. He inferred it could be used for manufacturing or boring repetitive tasks, like grocery shopping and will have a full self-driving computer.\nAs always with Musk and Tesla, the timeline is highly doubtful to anyone with basic knowledge of the technology in question. Fortunately, the antics did not fool everyone on Wall Street, some of whom may be getting tired of his shenanigans.\n“Unfortunately, as we have seen with robotaxis and other future sci-fi projects for Musk, we view this Tesla Bot as an absolute head scratcher that will further agitate investors at a time the Street is showing growing concern around rising EV competition and safety issues for Tesla,” said Dan Ives, a Wedbush Securities analyst, in a note to clients early Friday.\nThe safety issues Ives mentions are what investors should be attuned to right now, because it appears the government is finally stepping up and taking note of a problem this column has long pointed out: Musk repeatedly oversells the current and near-term potential for his automotive autonomy advanced technology.\nJust a day before Thursday’s “AI Day” spectacle,two U.S. senators asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate both Tesla’s and Musk’s “repeated overstatements of their vehicles’ capabilities”in regards to the marketing of Tesla’s “Full Self Driving” product. Tesla charges thousands of dollars at purchase (or as little as $100 a month) for software that is nowhere near full self-driving, a practice that has already led toa recent review by California Department of Motor Vehiclesanda German ruling that Tesla could not market the product as such.\n“Language matters,” said Selika Talbott, a professorial lecturer in the department of public administration and policy at American University in Washington DC. “The use of this terminology is false and misleading and unsafe for the general public. The notions of assisted driving and autonomous vehicles and their differences are not fully understood by the general public.”\n“Tesla has highly assisted technology in their vehicle, but at no point should anyone behind the wheel think that vehicle can drive itself, because it can’t,” Talbott said.\nThe week began with news of a federal investigation into Tesla’s Autopilot system after cars using the feature crashed into stopped emergency vehicles.The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into a series of crashesby Tesla cars that had the advanced driver-assistance system enabled. NHTSA said that itopened an inquiry into 11 Tesla crashesthat involved emergency vehicles, while still investigating a series of collisions involving cars enabled with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and tractor-trailers.\nThe latest outcry on Capitol Hill follows a stream of news reports and/or social media posts and YouTube videos of drivers engaging in extremely risky behavior while testing the so-called self-driving features of their Tesla. In May, Steven Michael Hendrickson,a 35-year-old father of two in Fontana, Calif., died when his Tesla hit an overturned semitruck. Earlier he had posted videos of driving without his hands on the wheel of his car on the freeway, but the NHTSA was still investigating the role of Autopilot in the crash.\n“The vehicles that Tesla is producing are driver-assisted systems,” said Bryan Reimer, a research scientist at the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics. “They are assisting the driver, and the driver needs to maintain vigilance.”\nIt is important to note the difference between Tesla’s dual products with misleading names. “Autopilot” is an ADAS system, a highly advanced version of cruise control meant for highway driving that enables “your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically within its lane under your active supervision, assisting with the most burdensome parts of driving,” according to Tesla’s website. Tesla also offers the “FSD” package, now available by a subscription of $99 to $199 a month, which it describes as “access to a suite of more advanced driver assistance features, designed to provide more active guidance and assisted driving under your active supervision.”\nIf only Musk described these systems in a similar manner to the official website. In analyst conference calls and in Tesla’s multi-hour long presentations to its fan base, Musk has been proclaiming that with this software, full autonomy is around the corner.\n“We basically have to solve real-world vision AI and we are,” he said in an earnings call in April. “And the key to solving this is also having some massive data set. So just having well over one million cars on the road that are collecting data… But I am highly confident that we will get this done.”\nBut for all of Musk’s bluster and huge fan base, investors are starting to note that the company’s tactics involving full self-driving technology are dangerous, as opposed to the other companies that are testing autonomous vehicles.\nFor example, Alphabet Inc.’sGOOGGOOGLWaymo, the company with the most hours of autonomous vehicle driving, is currently operating a small scale robotaxi service in parts of Arizona around Phoenix that are not densely populated, without human drivers. It is the only one of its kind in the U.S. In California, Waymo has permits from the DMV to conduct AV testing with a human driver behind the wheel.\n“Waymo cannot just start selling their AVs to anyone, and they can’t just drive them on the roadway, our regulatory system does not allow for that,” Talbott of American University said. “You can test them but no publicly available self-driving car is on the market for purchase because it doesn’t exist.”\nWith FSD testing being done in the real world with untrained drivers, Tesla is conducting the equivalent of clinical trials of a new drug without any professional hourly or daily monitoring of the patient.\n“They are calling it beta, it is a beta system, they are exposing people to substantive risk,” Reimer said.\nMusk’s latest bot is yet another distraction, much like the flame thrower in 2018 sold by his Boring Company, his unwanted assistance to try and help the boys stuck in a cave in Thailand, and other projects. These were impressive goals, but what was missing was any sense of how they'd actually achieve them. Now, we finally know Intel's plan.</p>\n<p>Intel's CEO Pat Gelsinger and SVP of Technology Development Dr. Ann Kelleher,laid out the company's plan for the future.For starters, Intel is renaming its manufacturing nodes. What used to be 10nm \"Enhanced Superfin\" is now just \"7.\" This may feel a little duplicitous — \"just wave a wand a you've got better technology!\" — but to be fair to intel, the nanometer measurements of process nodes don't really correspond to anything physical any more, and in terms of density Intel's current 10nm chips are competitive with TSMC and Samsung's 7nm.</p>\n<p>Looking beyond 7nm, Intel is targeting an aggressive release schedule with major product updates happening annually. We're expecting their Alder Lake chips this fall, which will mix high and low-powered cores, followed by now-4nm Meteor Lake chips that will move to a \"tile\" (chiplet) design, and incorporate Intel's <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/DDD\">3D</a> stacked-chip technology, Foveros.</p>\n<p>Beyond that, Intel has technology mapped out for an EUV-based 3nm node that will use the high-energy manufacturing process to streamline chip creation, and a \"20A\" for angstrom node. This is one ten-billionth of a meter (meaning it's 2nm), and will be followed by a 18A node that Intel hopes to start moving into production in 2025 for products sometime in the 2nd half of the decade. Now, we finally know Intel's plan.\nIntel's CEO Pat Gelsinger and SVP of Technology Development Dr. Ann Kelleher,laid out the company's plan for the future.For starters, Intel is renaming its manufacturing nodes. What used to be 10nm \"Enhanced Superfin\" is now just \"7.\" This may feel a little duplicitous — \"just wave a wand a you've got better technology!\" — but to be fair to intel, the nanometer measurements of process nodes don't really correspond to anything physical any more, and in terms of density Intel's current 10nm chips are competitive with TSMC and Samsung's 7nm.\nLooking beyond 7nm, Intel is targeting an aggressive release schedule with major product updates happening annually. We're expecting their Alder Lake chips this fall, which will mix high and low-powered cores, followed by now-4nm Meteor Lake chips that will move to a \"tile\" (chiplet) design, and incorporate Intel's 3D stacked-chip technology, Foveros.\nBeyond that, Intel has technology mapped out for an EUV-based 3nm node that will use the high-energy manufacturing process to streamline chip creation, and a \"20A\" for angstrom node. This is one ten-billionth of a meter (meaning it's 2nm), and will be followed by a 18A node that Intel hopes to start moving into production in 2025 for products sometime in the 2nd half of the decade. Investors cared more about&nbsp;disappointing user figures for Disney+&nbsp;than the earnings beat. Then there are companies like smart-speaker maker Sonos (SONO), which has&nbsp;made a habit of double-digit moves in recent quarters&nbsp;as analysts struggled to size up its sales prospects.</p>\n<p>These earnings quirks got us thinking about which companies are most likely to pop up—or down—after reporting results. Using FactSet and Dow Jones Market Data, we screened for Russell 1000 firms that have reported at least eight quarters of results within the past five years. Then we looked for the average absolute post-earnings percentage changes in that time frame. We found eight stocks that do the dance.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e54c8198e2c4e7b937297f831956e0d8\" tg-width=\"948\" tg-height=\"736\"></p>\n<p>Of the eight, a few things stand out. First, although we limited the screen to companies with at least two years of results, only one—solar-solutions designer and maker&nbsp;Enphase Energy(ENPH)—has been public for all of the five years we looked at.</p>\n<p>Newly public companies also often have the wildest post-earnings moves because analysts are still learning how to size them up. Without a track record of delivering, or missing, on guidance figures, there’s more room for error. Analysts, who form the consensus estimates, are still learning the companies—and their peculiarities. Covid-19 has added another wrinkle since many companies&nbsp;withdrew guidance last year&nbsp;because of all the economic disruptions.</p>\n<p>Most of these companies—social media and stay-at-home—fit into the broader pandemic trade, surging in the past year. But analysts have been debating whether&nbsp;the gains are sustainable, so it makes sense that any forward-looking indicators on earnings reports could send a stock flying or falling.</p>\n<p>Pinterest&nbsp;(PINS), the social networking service, leads the pack with an absolute average post-earnings percentage change of 17.4. Its shares were&nbsp;hammered last month&nbsp;despite the company’s earnings and revenue figures topping consensus estimates. Analysts&nbsp;were disappointed by user-growth figures. Still, the stock has averaged a gain of 4.1% with nine reported quarters&nbsp;as a public company.</p>\n<p>Beyond Meat&nbsp;(BYND) has been a poster child for Wall Street’s struggles in sizing up high-growth firms. And it has experienced&nbsp;its fair share of short squeezes&nbsp;since going public in 2019. The stock’s dramatic post-IPO rise drew a horde of short-sellers, who bet on a price decline. Such bearish sentiment has backfired a few times, leaving such analysts rushing to buy shares to cover their bets.</p>\n<p>Fastly&nbsp;(FSLY) is another casualty of&nbsp;this spring’s earnings season. The stock plunged after reporting results, but has proven volatile since going public two years ago. It’s the worst performer of the group, averaging a drop of 5.6%.</p>\n<p>Trade Desk&nbsp;(TTD) and Enphase Energy have locked in the biggest average gains at 9.2% and 8.2%, respectively. That’s despite Trade Desk shares&nbsp;sinking on earnings earlier this month.PagerDuty&nbsp;(PD) has averaged a decline of 1% after reporting results.</p>\n<p>Other pandemic standouts&nbsp;Roku&nbsp;(ROKU) and&nbsp;Zoom Video Communications&nbsp;(ZM) also crack the top eight, at third and seventh, respectively. The latter is set to report fiscal first-quarter results on June 1. Generally stable stocks can go through a bout of volatility—and high-growth ones, by their very nature more unpredictable, can really spike or slump depending on the numbers.\nNetflix(ticker: NFLX) stock stumbled in April after its subscriber growth figures missed the mark.Walt Disney (DIS) was the latest example. Investors cared more about disappointing user figures for Disney+ than the earnings beat. Then there are companies like smart-speaker maker Sonos (SONO), which has made a habit of double-digit moves in recent quarters as analysts struggled to size up its sales prospects.\nThese earnings quirks got us thinking about which companies are most likely to pop up—or down—after reporting results. Using FactSet and Dow Jones Market Data, we screened for Russell 1000 firms that have reported at least eight quarters of results within the past five years. Then we looked for the average absolute post-earnings percentage changes in that time frame. We found eight stocks that do the dance.\n\nOf the eight, a few things stand out. First, although we limited the screen to companies with at least two years of results, only one—solar-solutions designer and maker Enphase Energy(ENPH)—has been public for all of the five years we looked at.\nNewly public companies also often have the wildest post-earnings moves because analysts are still learning how to size them up. Without a track record of delivering, or missing, on guidance figures, there’s more room for error. Analysts, who form the consensus estimates, are still learning the companies—and their peculiarities. Covid-19 has added another wrinkle since many companies withdrew guidance last year because of all the economic disruptions.\nMost of these companies—social media and stay-at-home—fit into the broader pandemic trade, surging in the past year. But analysts have been debating whether the gains are sustainable, so it makes sense that any forward-looking indicators on earnings reports could send a stock flying or falling.\nPinterest (PINS), the social networking service, leads the pack with an absolute average post-earnings percentage change of 17.4. Its shares were hammered last month despite the company’s earnings and revenue figures topping consensus estimates. Analysts were disappointed by user-growth figures. Still, the stock has averaged a gain of 4.1% with nine reported quarters as a public company.\nBeyond Meat (BYND) has been a poster child for Wall Street’s struggles in sizing up high-growth firms. And it has experienced its fair share of short squeezes since going public in 2019. The stock’s dramatic post-IPO rise drew a horde of short-sellers, who bet on a price decline. Such bearish sentiment has backfired a few times, leaving such analysts rushing to buy shares to cover their bets.\nFastly (FSLY) is another casualty of this spring’s earnings season. The stock plunged after reporting results, but has proven volatile since going public two years ago. It’s the worst performer of the group, averaging a drop of 5.6%.\nTrade Desk (TTD) and Enphase Energy have locked in the biggest average gains at 9.2% and 8.2%, respectively. So the argument here is that in choosing to seek value now is a contrarian move.</p><p>I probably can’t convince readers that undervalued stocks are sexy, but it is important to consider stability. That said, let’s get into a few undervalued stocks that really deserve your attention right now. The Chinese government levied a record $2.8 billion fine against one of its own dominant e-commerce forces in Alibaba on April 9. Shares jumped up immediately following the news. That seemed odd, but the logic was that the worst was behind the company with a $2.8 billion fine, a mere drop in the bucket given the company’s revenues. Share prices have come back down and are now at the same levels they were prior to the fine being announced.</p><p>That’s why I’d argue that now represents a moment in which Alibaba is undervalued and attractive. Investors who look at Alibaba from the perspective of a traditional value determinant like price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio may miss the point. After all, BABA stock carries aP/E ratio of 25.6, worse than about 57% of competitors.</p><p>Make no mistake though, Alibaba share prices will rise again taking that P/E ratio higher. But it won’t matter because Alibaba is essentially one of a kind. That’s why I’d argue that its P/E ratio is somewhat irrelevant. The company’s revenues increased nearly 30% in 2020, which is far more important than temporary headwinds.</p><p><b>KeyCorp (KEY)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8dbae2c9819481f9b8c4e705bbe950bb\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: JHVEPhoto / Shutterstock.com</p><p>A few weeks ago, on April 20, KeyCorp reported first-quarter earnings. Fortunately, they were strong. The company announced that net income attributable to shareholders increased to a record $591 million in the quarter. KeyCorp reported EPS of 61 cents per share. Both of these figures exceeded those from the previous quarter at $549 million net income, and a 56 cent EPS.</p><p>That difference was strong in and of itself. However, looking back at the year-over-year growth tells an even more compelling story. In Q1 2020, KeyCorp reported a net income of $118 million and a corresponding EPS of 12 cents.</p><p>While the growth is undeniably a good thing, it does represent a bit of a double-edged sword for investors currently. KEY stock now trades at a higher price than in the past few years. Its P/E ratio puts it in the middle of the pack relative to other banks. I’d ignore that along with the historically high price as well. The company’s growth will attract investment as more learn about it. Those who establish a position now will benefit from that.</p><p><b>Undervalued stocks:&nbsp;Barrick Gold (GOLD)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e48056b51f76a219fbdb9801e7f0939c\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: allstars / Shutterstock.com</p><p>To be completely honest, Barrick Gold is pretty much fairly valued. Investors who consider the company’s P/E, price-to-book (P/B), and price-to-sales (P/S) ratios — three common value metrics — will see it trades where it should.</p><p>What then makes it “undervalued?” That is, what about this stock is the market missing, and why should it actually be trading higher? The company’s name, stock ticker, and business sector should make that obvious. GOLD stock is a play against inflation and a bet that the shiny commodity metal can serve as a buffer.</p><p>Barrick Gold is not a household name, but it is a major force in the gold sector. It produced 4.76 billion ounces of gold in 2020. That was second only to<b>Newmont</b>(NYSE:<b><u>NEM</u></b>) and its 5.91 billion ounces.</p><p>The company is debt free. That’s a clear financial strength for any company to possess. From a profitability perspective, Barrick Gold really deserves a bit more love. Its operating margin, net margin, return on equity, and return on assets all rank wellabove the 80th percentileof metals and mining peers.</p><p>Barrick Gold also either owns, or has interest in 6 of the 13 mines in the world that have the capacity to produce 500,000 ounces of gold annually at below average operating costs. Even if investors weren’t looking at gold in light of inflationary concerns, Barrick Gold would be worth strongly considering.</p><p><b>Intel (INTC)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ce4b511522856be7ed6576fceecdcc03\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: Kate Krav-Rude / Shutterstock.com</p><p>In the summer of 2020 the main headline regarding Intel was that it had been overtaken by<b>Nvidia</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>NVDA</u></b>) as the world’s most valuable chipmaker. According to pundits, Intel was dead in the water and smart investors ought to pile into Nvidia or<b>AMD</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>AMD</u></b>).</p><p>The truth is, Nvidia remains the more valuable company from a market capitalization perspective. While Intel’s market cap sits at $223 billion, Nvidia is worth $356 billion. AMD sits at a relatively small $93 billion in market cap.</p><p>However, the fact also remains that investors are simply willing to pay more, much more, for a dollar of Nvidia’s earnings than they are for a dollar of Intel’s earnings. Nvidia’s P/E ratio sits at 82.7, while Intel carries a very low 12.96 P/E ratio.</p><p>Yes, Nvidia has cornered the market for desktop gaming CPUs and GPUs. However, Intel remains a force to be reckoned with and the true contrarian will disregard the negative headlines and consider its chances moving forward.</p><p>Does it really make sense to believe that Intel will stay down for the long term? No.</p><p><b>Undervalued stocks:eBay (EBAY)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a4d0627584a8001cd704272ca9be3d87\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: BigTunaOnline / Shutterstock.com</p><p>eBay seems to be perpetually undervalued. Investors who look back at its performance over the past few years will see that it certainly hasn’t received the love that some of its more prominent ecommerce peers have. I’m largely referring to<b>Amazon</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>AMZN</u></b>) here. While this isn’t perhaps fair, the two firms are intertwined as early American e-commerce success stories.</p><p>It’s clear that investors are much more interested in AMZN stock than EBAY stock based on the traditional P/E ratio as a measure of value. Amazon sits at about 62.57, and eBay, 16.21. Thus, Amazon is about four times as attractive. Anyway, enough of the comparison because eBay is attractive in its own right.</p><p>Recently announced earnings validate that idea. Revenuesincreased by 42%, to $3 billion in Q1. Further, eBay saw strong growth in its customer base. Annual active buyers grew 7%, to 187 million customers. And annual active sellers grew 8%, to 20 million. eBay expects that its revenue figures in Q2 will be similar to the $3 billion it recorded in Q1. If that is indeed the case, eBay will grow on a Q2 year-over-year basis of about 9%.</p><p>So, if eBay continues on this trajectory, it’s hard to imagine that investors won’t soon give it some love.</p><p><b>Verizon (VZ)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/729dc3624713264cc4f5b98fb05ca21b\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: zhu difeng / Shutterstock.com</p><p>There’s a lot for investors to like about Verizon as an underappreciated stock. From a high-level perspective the company looks reasonable as a 5G play. The markets have hyped up 5G buildout in the U.S., and indeed there will be massive windfalls to be had. Verizon is almost always a part of that conversation as a data provider consumers know as a household name.</p><p>Earlier in the year Verizon made a heavy investment to secure its spot as a leader in the 5G revolution. The U.S. government held a spectrum auction in February in which $81 billion worth of airwave rights were sold. Verizonspent $45.5 billionin that auction, securing midrange spectrum rights.</p><p>Part of the reason Verizon was so willing to spend so much was the<b>T-Mobile</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>TMUS</u></b>) Sprint merger in 2020. Verizon simply understood the land grab opportunities present in the auction.</p><p>This win represents a big part of the narrative behind a Verizon investment. Yet, VZ stock remains discounted. Its P/E ratio of under 13 is quite low. Roughly three-quarters of the telecommunications industry can garner more money for a dollar of their earnings. But that’s the contrarian play here. Investors who follow the narrative that Verizon is undervalued will also be purchasing a stock with a nice dividend. Verizon’s quarterly dividend carries a 4.22% yield at 63 cents.</p><p><b>Undervalued stocks:Toyota (TM)</b><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e7e878779767330c331237aac9ee8938\" tg-width=\"300\" tg-height=\"169\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\">Source: josefkubes</p><p>I’d be willing to bet that most readers have a certain image of Toyota. The brand is associated with reliability and longevity. I’d argue that it’s one of the best companies in the world and that its conservative stance is attractive. However, conservative companies which build vanilla vehicles tend not to inspire the market.</p><p>That’s fine. It’s a good part of the reason that Toyota carries P/E and P/B ratios that are lower than two-thirds of the automotive sector.</p><p>I’d argue that Toyota ticks many of the boxes that automotive investor dollars have flooded into of late. Yet, the market hasn’t caught on to the value Toyota presents.</p><p>Toyota announced it will have 70 electrified vehicles in its lineup by 2025. Of course EVs were all the rage in 2020, much of which has settled. But Toyota is an established name in EVs and it’s safe to say that it will be producing EVs for decades to come. By that time, a good number of 2020’s SPAC EVs will be dustbin relics.</p><p>Another often discussed automotive technology is solid state EV batteries. While<b>QuantumScape</b>(NYSE:<b><u>QS</u></b>) garnered massive headline space recently, Toyota has quietly plodded along with its own battery development. There isgood reason to believethat it will bring a solid state battery EV to market before any other manufacturer does. I believe that Toyota remains undervalued due to its staid, conservative nature. The Chinese government levied a record $2.8 billion fine against one of its own dominant e-commerce forces in Alibaba on April 9. Shares jumped up immediately following the news. That seemed odd, but the logic was that the worst was behind the company with a $2.8 billion fine, a mere drop in the bucket given the company’s revenues. Share prices have come back down and are now at the same levels they were prior to the fine being announced.That’s why I’d argue that now represents a moment in which Alibaba is undervalued and attractive. Investors who look at Alibaba from the perspective of a traditional value determinant like price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio may miss the point. After all, BABA stock carries aP/E ratio of 25.6, worse than about 57% of competitors.Make no mistake though, Alibaba share prices will rise again taking that P/E ratio higher. But it won’t matter because Alibaba is essentially one of a kind. That’s why I’d argue that its P/E ratio is somewhat irrelevant. The company’s revenues increased nearly 30% in 2020, which is far more important than temporary headwinds.KeyCorp (KEY)Source: JHVEPhoto / Shutterstock.comA few weeks ago, on April 20, KeyCorp reported first-quarter earnings. Fortunately, they were strong. The company announced that net income attributable to shareholders increased to a record $591 million in the quarter. KeyCorp reported EPS of 61 cents per share. Both of these figures exceeded those from the previous quarter at $549 million net income, and a 56 cent EPS.That difference was strong in and of itself. However, looking back at the year-over-year growth tells an even more compelling story. In Q1 2020, KeyCorp reported a net income of $118 million and a corresponding EPS of 12 cents.While the growth is undeniably a good thing, it does represent a bit of a double-edged sword for investors currently. KEY stock now trades at a higher price than in the past few years. Its P/E ratio puts it in the middle of the pack relative to other banks. I’d ignore that along with the historically high price as well. The company’s growth will attract investment as more learn about it. Those who establish a position now will benefit from that.Undervalued stocks: Barrick Gold (GOLD)Source: allstars / Shutterstock.comTo be completely honest, Barrick Gold is pretty much fairly valued. Investors who consider the company’s P/E, price-to-book (P/B), and price-to-sales (P/S) ratios — three common value metrics — will see it trades where it should.What then makes it “undervalued?” That is, what about this stock is the market missing, and why should it actually be trading higher? The company’s name, stock ticker, and business sector should make that obvious. GOLD stock is a play against inflation and a bet that the shiny commodity metal can serve as a buffer.Barrick Gold is not a household name, but it is a major force in the gold sector. It produced 4.76 billion ounces of gold in 2020. That was second only toNewmont(NYSE:NEM) and its 5.91 billion ounces.The company is debt free. That’s a clear financial strength for any company to possess. From a profitability perspective, Barrick Gold really deserves a bit more love. Its operating margin, net margin, return on equity, and return on assets all rank wellabove the 80th percentileof metals and mining peers.Barrick Gold also either owns, or has interest in 6 of the 13 mines in the world that have the capacity to produce 500,000 ounces of gold annually at below average operating costs. Even if investors weren’t looking at gold in light of inflationary concerns, Barrick Gold would be worth strongly considering.Intel (INTC)Source: Kate Krav-Rude / Shutterstock.comIn the summer of 2020 the main headline regarding Intel was that it had been overtaken byNvidia(NASDAQ:NVDA) as the world’s most valuable chipmaker. According to pundits, Intel was dead in the water and smart investors ought to pile into Nvidia orAMD(NASDAQ:AMD).The truth is, Nvidia remains the more valuable company from a market capitalization perspective. While Intel’s market cap sits at $223 billion, Nvidia is worth $356 billion. AMD sits at a relatively small $93 billion in market cap.However, the fact also remains that investors are simply willing to pay more, much more, for a dollar of Nvidia’s earnings than they are for a dollar of Intel’s earnings. Nvidia’s P/E ratio sits at 82.7, while Intel carries a very low 12.96 P/E ratio.Yes, Nvidia has cornered the market for desktop gaming CPUs and GPUs. However, Intel remains a force to be reckoned with and the true contrarian will disregard the negative headlines and consider its chances moving forward.Does it really make sense to believe that Intel will stay down for the long term? Investors who look back at its performance over the past few years will see that it certainly hasn’t received the love that some of its more prominent ecommerce peers have. I’m largely referring toAmazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) here. While this isn’t perhaps fair, the two firms are intertwined as early American e-commerce success stories.It’s clear that investors are much more interested in AMZN stock than EBAY stock based on the traditional P/E ratio as a measure of value. Amazon sits at about 62.57, and eBay, 16.21. Thus, Amazon is about four times as attractive. Anyway, enough of the comparison because eBay is attractive in its own right.Recently announced earnings validate that idea. Revenuesincreased by 42%, to $3 billion in Q1. Further, eBay saw strong growth in its customer base. Annual active buyers grew 7%, to 187 million customers. And annual active sellers grew 8%, to 20 million. eBay expects that its revenue figures in Q2 will be similar to the $3 billion it recorded in Q1. If that is indeed the case, eBay will grow on a Q2 year-over-year basis of about 9%.So, if eBay continues on this trajectory, it’s hard to imagine that investors won’t soon give it some love.Verizon (VZ)Source: zhu difeng / Shutterstock.comThere’s a lot for investors to like about Verizon as an underappreciated stock. From a high-level perspective the company looks reasonable as a 5G play. The markets have hyped up 5G buildout in the U.S., and indeed there will be massive windfalls to be had. Verizon is almost always a part of that conversation as a data provider consumers know as a household name.Earlier in the year Verizon made a heavy investment to secure its spot as a leader in the 5G revolution. The U.S. government held a spectrum auction in February in which $81 billion worth of airwave rights were sold. Verizonspent $45.5 billionin that auction, securing midrange spectrum rights.Part of the reason Verizon was so willing to spend so much was theT-Mobile(NASDAQ:TMUS) Sprint merger in 2020. Verizon simply understood the land grab opportunities present in the auction.This win represents a big part of the narrative behind a Verizon investment. Yet, VZ stock remains discounted. Its P/E ratio of under 13 is quite low. Roughly three-quarters of the telecommunications industry can garner more money for a dollar of their earnings. But that’s the contrarian play here. Investors who follow the narrative that Verizon is undervalued will also be purchasing a stock with a nice dividend. Verizon’s quarterly dividend carries a 4.22% yield at 63 cents.Undervalued stocks:Toyota (TM)Source: josefkubesI’d be willing to bet that most readers have a certain image of Toyota. The brand is associated with reliability and longevity. I’d argue that it’s one of the best companies in the world and that its conservative stance is attractive. However, conservative companies which build vanilla vehicles tend not to inspire the market.That’s fine. It’s a good part of the reason that Toyota carries P/E and P/B ratios that are lower than two-thirds of the automotive sector.I’d argue that Toyota ticks many of the boxes that automotive investor dollars have flooded into of late. Yet, the market hasn’t caught on to the value Toyota presents.Toyota announced it will have 70 electrified vehicles in its lineup by 2025. Of course EVs were all the rage in 2020, much of which has settled. But Toyota is an established name in EVs and it’s safe to say that it will be producing EVs for decades to come. By that time, a good number of 2020’s SPAC EVs will be dustbin relics.Another often discussed automotive technology is solid state EV batteries. WhileQuantumScape(NYSE:QS) garnered massive headline space recently, Toyota has quietly plodded along with its own battery development. There isgood reason to believethat it will bring a solid state battery EV to market before any other manufacturer does. I believe that Toyota remains undervalued due to its staid, conservative nature. If the price increase is confirmed, it provides evidence that AAPL might be a great inflation play during these times of worry over rising producer and consumer prices.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d6f4ac9ebc1b90072340731dc5c1e613\" tg-width=\"1240\" tg-height=\"698\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Figure 1: Apple's iPhone 12 Pro.</span></p>\n<p><b>What happened?</b></p>\n<p>The iPhone is already considered a pricey tech gadget that can cost as much as $1,400 for the fully loaded, higher-end 12 Pro Max model in the US (see figure below). Due to this year’s components shortage, chip maker TSMC may raise its part prices to Apple by 3% to 5%, which could lead to a similar increase in the price of the yet-to-be-announced iPhone 13.</p>\n<p>It is unlikely that one of the largest and most successful consumer product companies in the world would try to raise prices without confidence that doing so does not impact demand for the new iPhone substantially. Apple can probably afford to hike prices because the company understands the value and the appeal of its luxury brand.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/0140b9b68bb9eb5dd7e88aaff384785d\" tg-width=\"707\" tg-height=\"370\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Figure 2: iPhone 12 Pro on Apple's store.</span></p>\n<p><b>A quote from Jim Cramer</b></p>\n<p>One of the most concerning headwinds to stocks in the foreseeable future is the possibility of inflation eroding corporate margins and leading to higher interest rates in 2021-2022. But should producer and consumer prices spike, not all stocks will be impacted equally.</p>\n<p>Generally speaking, companies with strong pricing power that are able to pass on the higher production costs to consumers will likely outperform. This is a point that&nbsp;Mad Money’s Jim Cramer has made recently. Here is his quote:</p>\n<blockquote>\n “When you try to think of what’s working in this market... I want you to ask yourself, would you be insensitive to a price increase if the company put one through? [What are] the companies that can raise prices without infuriating you? Go buy their stocks.”\n</blockquote>\n<p><b>The impact to the P&amp;L</b></p>\n<p>Are higher prices a good or a bad thing for a company’s financial performance? The answer is nuanced and depends on a few factors.</p>\n<p>Holding all else constant, higher prices also mean higher revenues (think of the formula for sales: price times quantity). If the increase in price is decoupled from an increase in product or operating costs, then the hike also helps to boost margins – thus profits as well.</p>\n<p>However, “holding all else constant” is not how the world really works. A change in price tends to have an impact on a few key variables, most important of which is demand. If higher prices do not impact units sold by much or at all, this is great news for revenues and, most likely, earnings.</p>\n<p>The other piece to consider is whether the price hike fully or only partially offsets higher costs. Assuming the latter, revenues can still benefit without a corresponding positive effect on margins and profits. If the price increase is confirmed, it provides evidence that AAPL might be a great inflation play during these times of worry over rising producer and consumer prices.\nFigure 1: Apple's iPhone 12 Pro.\nWhat happened?\nThe iPhone is already considered a pricey tech gadget that can cost as much as $1,400 for the fully loaded, higher-end 12 Pro Max model in the US (see figure below). Due to this year’s components shortage, chip maker TSMC may raise its part prices to Apple by 3% to 5%, which could lead to a similar increase in the price of the yet-to-be-announced iPhone 13.\nIt is unlikely that one of the largest and most successful consumer product companies in the world would try to raise prices without confidence that doing so does not impact demand for the new iPhone substantially. Apple can probably afford to hike prices because the company understands the value and the appeal of its luxury brand.\nFigure 2: iPhone 12 Pro on Apple's store.\nA quote from Jim Cramer\nOne of the most concerning headwinds to stocks in the foreseeable future is the possibility of inflation eroding corporate margins and leading to higher interest rates in 2021-2022. But should producer and consumer prices spike, not all stocks will be impacted equally.\nGenerally speaking, companies with strong pricing power that are able to pass on the higher production costs to consumers will likely outperform. This is a point that Mad Money’s Jim Cramer has made recently. Here is his quote:\n\n “When you try to think of what’s working in this market... I want you to ask yourself, would you be insensitive to a price increase if the company put one through? [What are] the companies that can raise prices without infuriating you? Go buy their stocks.”\n\nThe impact to the P&L\nAre higher prices a good or a bad thing for a company’s financial performance? The answer is nuanced and depends on a few factors.\nHolding all else constant, higher prices also mean higher revenues (think of the formula for sales: price times quantity). If the increase in price is decoupled from an increase in product or operating costs, then the hike also helps to boost margins – thus profits as well.\nHowever, “holding all else constant” is not how the world really works. A change in price tends to have an impact on a few key variables, most important of which is demand. If higher prices do not impact units sold by much or at all, this is great news for revenues and, most likely, earnings.\nThe other piece to consider is whether the price hike fully or only partially offsets higher costs. Assuming the latter, revenues can still benefit without a corresponding positive effect on margins and profits. powerful and priciest version of the company’s Model S. Priced at $149,990, it was to feature a range of 520 miles, thanks to its innovative 4680 battery cells, 1,100 horsepower and the ability to speed from 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.</p>\n<p>Instead, the company has begun delivering a new Model S Plaid that has only a 390-mile range and 1,020 horsepower, though it still sprints to from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just two seconds.</p>\n<p>As a way to “sugar coat” its flip flop, Tesla said the Model S Plaid is just as fast as the Model S Plaid Plus and $20,000 cheaper. Humm.</p>\n<p>This “bait and switch” has some Tesla fans worried, since they had deposits on the Model S Plaid Plus and wanted the innovative 4680 battery cells that Tesla had been touting as the key to longer range and more power. Essentially, the 4680 battery cells were the latest great Tesla development, since they were the first batteries to also be a structural component that supposedly allowed Tesla to lower the weight of its vehicles.</p>\n<p>Both the company’s Austin and Berlin manufacturing plants now under construction are supposed to also be making the 4680 batteries for new Tesla vehicles. If there is a problem with the engineering associated with utilizing the 4680 batteries or making them a structural component, then Tesla has grossly miscalculated, which is now worrying investors.</p>\n<p>Clearly something happened to delay the 4680 batteries that were supposed to provide Tesla with a competitive and engineering edge. For Tesla’s sake, I hope they figure out the problems associated with their much hyped 4680 battery cells, otherwise concerns about its two new manufacturing plants will emerge, as well as the stock losing more of its “mojo.”</p>\n<p>As someone who owns more than a few high-performance vehicles, I can tell you that the engineering geeks I know do<i>not</i>want to get a new Model S Plaid instead of a Model S Plaid Plus and will likely ask for their deposits back.</p>\n<p>What Tesla did is like Ferrari or Porsche telling its customers that one of their much-hyped new performance models is now not being sold because the base model was just as good! Car fanatics, like myself, like the latest and greatest engineering tidbits, so we would rather cancel our orders versus settle for a base model.</p>\n<p>The good news for Tesla is that its China sales in May resurged to 21,936, up sharply from 11,671 in April. The company’s sales tend to spike at the end of each quarter. For example, Tesla sold 35,478 vehicles in China in March, which was the strongest month ever in China.</p>\n<p>This is raising expectations for very strong China sales in June, especially now that the Model Y is being manufactured in Shanghai. Interestingly, since most Chinese Teslas are now made with iron phosphate batteries, these vehicles have lower range than its lithium cobalt vehicles, but its iron phosphate vehicles are cheaper and now increasingly being exported to Europe.</p>\n<p>However, I’m convinced another electric vehicle (EV) company will eventually displace Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EVs in China.</p>\n<p><b>Taking Advantage of the EV Revolution’s Profit Potential</b></p>\n<p>I’m talking about&nbsp;<b>Nio, Inc.</b>(NYSE:<b>NIO</b>). The reality is that this company is on the verge of dominating the EV market in China and Hong Kong. It’s why I put NIO on my<b><i>Platinum Growth Club</i></b>Model Portfolio back in February.</p>\n<p>The company boasts that it is the “next-generation car company,” as it designs and manufactures electric vehicles that utilize the latest technologies in connectivity, autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI). NIO currently offers an electric seven-seater SUV (ES8) and a five-seater electric SUV (ES6) and recently introduced an attractive electric sedan (ET7). Its vehicles utilize NOMI, an in-vehicle artificial intelligence assistant.</p>\n<p>The company is also partnering with cutting-edge chip companies like<b>NVIDIA Corporation</b>(NASDAQ:<b>NVDA</b>), another one of my<b><i>Platinum Growth Club</i></b>Model Portfolio stocks. NIO plans to use the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip for its electric vehicles that will provide autonomous driving capabilities. The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-powered supercomputer, which is being called Adam, will be launched in the ET7 sedan in China in 2022. Announcements like this are very positive, so NIO has been stealing some of Tesla’s thunder lately.</p>\n<p>Now, it’s important to note that NIO was bailed out by the Chinese government. Last year, the Chinese government injected $1 billion and now has a 24% ownership in the company. The reality is that China wants to dominate at least five major industries by 2025, and NIO is now its ticket to dominate EV manufacturing.</p>\n<p>With the backing of the Chinese government, some Wall Street firms are eager to help NIO by issuing new debt or equity. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if NIO surpasses Tesla, which is currently number-two in China, for market share in the upcoming years.</p>\n<p>That means, if you missed Tesla’s parabolic run like I did, NIO is essentially giving us a “second chance” to make money in a potentially explosive electric vehicle company.</p>\n<p>Shares of NIO climbed nearly 13% since the company’s June 4 announcement of its May delivery report and positive analyst comments, while Tesla shares rose almost 3%. First, NIO revealed that the global chip shortage is starting to take a toll on its business. NIO only delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, or a 5.5% decline from April’s deliveries. Company management noted that deliveries were “adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments.”</p>\n<p>Interestingly, despite the month-to-month dip, NIO’s deliveries were still up 95.3% year-over-year. We're expecting their Alder Lake chips this fall, which will mix high and low-powered cores, followed by now-4nm Meteor Lake chips that will move to a \"tile\" (chiplet) design, and incorporate Intel's <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/DDD\">3D</a> stacked-chip technology, Foveros.</p>\n<p>Beyond that, Intel has technology mapped out for an EUV-based 3nm node that will use the high-energy manufacturing process to streamline chip creation, and a \"20A\" for angstrom node. This is one ten-billionth of a meter (meaning it's 2nm), and will be followed by a 18A node that Intel hopes to start moving into production in 2025 for products sometime in the 2nd half of the decade. Now, we finally know Intel's plan.\nIntel's CEO Pat Gelsinger and SVP of Technology Development Dr. Ann Kelleher,laid out the company's plan for the future.For starters, Intel is renaming its manufacturing nodes. What used to be 10nm \"Enhanced Superfin\" is now just \"7.\" This may feel a little duplicitous — \"just wave a wand a you've got better technology!\" — but to be fair to intel, the nanometer measurements of process nodes don't really correspond to anything physical any more, and in terms of density Intel's current 10nm chips are competitive with TSMC and Samsung's 7nm.\nLooking beyond 7nm, Intel is targeting an aggressive release schedule with major product updates happening annually. We're expecting their Alder Lake chips this fall, which will mix high and low-powered cores, followed by now-4nm Meteor Lake chips that will move to a \"tile\" (chiplet) design, and incorporate Intel's 3D stacked-chip technology, Foveros.\nBeyond that, Intel has technology mapped out for an EUV-based 3nm node that will use the high-energy manufacturing process to streamline chip creation, and a \"20A\" for angstrom node.
