The electric car maker wants to take on industry leader Tesla, but it has only just begun its journey to do that.
\n
The company hasn't sold a lot of vehicles but it has delivered to its first group of customers and CEO Peter Rawlinson has very big plans. He laid out his vision for the company in its most recent earnings call, and he explained that a lot of progress has happened behind the scenes.
\n
\n I would like to spend some time providing an overview of our longer term strategic focus areas as well as upcoming major milestones. Lucid continues to grow its operations in the US, but as part of our growth strategy and more specifically our international strategy, we intend to expand our sales, maintenance, repair services, and manufacturing activities outside of the US, again, with the goals of mitigating business risk and charging future growth.\n
\n
Basically, Rawlinson believes that his company has built the base needed to quickly ramp up sales. He made it clear in his remarks that the company has invested heavily in infrastructure while also laying out aggressive plans for future growth.
\n
What Has Lucid Motors Accomplished?
\n
Rawlinson explained that his company has been doing the things needed to facilitate growth. That has included heavy investment in manufacturing and infrastructure.
\n
\n With such demand across the Lucid Air lineup, we felt it's critical to accelerate expansion of our advanced manufacturing plant or our AMP-1 factory in Arizona, essentially investing in our capabilities to mitigate future business risks. This process started in Q3, with progress well underway on the addition of 2.85 million square feet of manufacturing space to our Arizona factory. This expansion will allow for a significant increase in production capacity for Lucid Air and enable production of the Gravity SUV in 2023.\n
\n
Lucid has also expanded its retail footprint including launching its first \"studio\" outside of the U.S. in Vancouver. The company expects to have 20 studios and service centers open by the end of 2021.
\n
What's Next for Lucid?
\n
Rawlinson has a detailed vision for how his company plans to grow in the U.S. That includes not just brick-and-mortar service centers but also adding mobile capabilities.
\n
\"We expect service centers to continue opening in North America, and we anticipate hiring a significant number of additional service technicians as we expand our capabilities,\" he said. \"We are optimistic about these goals even in a challenging environment as COVID-19 continues to present numerous obstacles to the auto industry and supply chain.\"
\n
The CEO also made it clear that his company has global ambitions.
\n
\"On the retail and service front, we're looking to expand our footprint in Europe and the Middle East, and we expect to enter these markets in 2022,\" he said. \" \"There has been continued expansion of the team in both regions with key additions to leadership and the employee base, and we are excited by the prospects of these key regions.\"
\n
Rawlinson also explained how Lucid plans to grow its vehicle lineup. And, as he likes to subtly do, he threw some shade at the competition,
\n
\n Moving to our Air lineup, the longer view will see production expanding to include Touring and Pure models, as well as future variants. With our in-house technology establishing Lucid Air as the new benchmark for EV efficiency, we will be quick to maximize this potential. Because if we can achieve 516 miles with just a 112 kilowatt-hour battery pack, it's easy to imagine a smaller pack and the weight and cost savings afforded by it, which would allow for much more attainable EV that can still achieve 300-plus or 400-plus miles of range.\n
\n
Lucid also has plans to launch a luxury SUX that Rawlison said \"will elevate the SUV to a new level, with extraordinary performance and category-defining interior space. In early 2020, the companies said they are shelving the plans for a Lincoln-branded EV but would go ahead with an alternative vehicle based on Rivian technology.
\n
The Ford CEO suggested in the interview that the company is now increasingly confident in competing in the EV space by itself. Another handicap that forced the going-solo decision was the complexities involved in integrating the hardware and software together.
\n
Why It's Important:Rivian shares debuted on Wall Street on Nov. 10 following aninitial public offeringat a bumper valuation of over $100 billion. The company's strong debut and the subsequent run up in shares have raised eyebrows over its valuation which has taken it past the market capitalization of legacy U.S. automakers, including Ford.
\n
Rivian's product pipeline consists of RIT, an EV pickup truck, which it began delivering to customers in September. As of Oct. 30, the company produced 180 R1Ts and delivered 156 R1Ts, with the bulk of them going to the company's employees.
\n
The company noted that at the end of October, it had preorders of about 55,400 R1Ts and R1Ss. It expects to fill the preorder backlog by the end of 2023.
\n
Ford, for its part, has doubled on itsEV strategyand invested big dollars into its transition toward EVs.
\n
\"We respect Rivian and have had extensive exploratory discussions with them, however, both sides have agreed not to pursue any kind of joint vehicle development or platform sharing,\" Ford said in an emailed statement to media.
\n
Rivian, meanwhile, confirmed that it is a mutual decision to focus on each of their own projects and deliveries, given Ford has scaled its own EV strategy and demand for Rivian vehicles has grown.
\n
\"Our relationship with Ford is an important part of our journey, and Ford remains an investor and ally on our shared path to an electrified future\" a Rivian spokesperson said.
\n
Rivian closed Friday's session up 4.23% at $128.60, while Ford closed down 0.87% at $19.39.
","source":"lsy1606299360108","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; In early 2020, the companies said they are shelving the plans for a Lincoln-branded EV but would go ahead with an alternative vehicle based on Rivian technology.\nThe Ford CEO suggested in the interview that the company is now increasingly confident in competing in the EV space by itself. Another handicap that forced the going-solo decision was the complexities involved in integrating the hardware and software together.\nWhy It's Important:Rivian shares debuted on Wall Street on Nov. 10 following aninitial public offeringat a bumper valuation of over $100 billion. The company's strong debut and the subsequent run up in shares have raised eyebrows over its valuation which has taken it past the market capitalization of legacy U.S. automakers, including Ford.\nRivian's product pipeline consists of RIT, an EV pickup truck, which it began delivering to customers in September. As of Oct. 30, the company produced 180 R1Ts and delivered 156 R1Ts, with the bulk of them going to the company's employees.\nThe company noted that at the end of October, it had preorders of about 55,400 R1Ts and R1Ss. It expects to fill the preorder backlog by the end of 2023.\nFord, for its part, has doubled on itsEV strategyand invested big dollars into its transition toward EVs.\n\"We respect Rivian and have had extensive exploratory discussions with them, however, both sides have agreed not to pursue any kind of joint vehicle development or platform sharing,\" Ford said in an emailed statement to media.\nRivian, meanwhile, confirmed that it is a mutual decision to focus on each of their own projects and deliveries, given Ford has scaled its own EV strategy and demand for Rivian vehicles has grown.\n\"Our relationship with Ford is an important part of our journey, and Ford remains an investor and ally on our shared path to an electrified future\" a Rivian spokesperson said.\nRivian closed Friday's session up 4.23% at $128.60, while Ford closed down 0.87% at $19.39.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1292,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":878650115,"gmtCreate":1637191911159,"gmtModify":1637191911250,"author":{"id":"3575363327829260","authorId":"3575363327829260","name":"2021koon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ad08d3b98fb2d860daf2e2b2916dc11e","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575363327829260","authorIdStr":"3575363327829260"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Missed the boat","listText":"Missed the boat","text":"Missed the boat","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/878650115","repostId":"1109220263","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1109220263","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1637162760,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1109220263?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-17 23:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Stock: 3 Cool Facts About the Rally and Pullback","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1109220263","media":"TheStreet","summary":"Tesla shares have been on a tear in Q4. Fastest climb in 2021
\n
On November 4, TSLA shares ended the trading day valued at nearly $1,230. At that point, the stock had been up a whopping 58.6% in the fourth quarter alone. That is: nearly 60% gains in only 25 business days.
\n
This was TSLA’s record rally in 2021 in such a short period of time. The chart below shows that the previous record for the year had been 54.7% in the first few days of January, when Tesla completed its post-US election rally to what was then a peak price of $880 per share.
\n
Figure 1: Trailing 25-day gains in TSLA.
\n
#2 Heaviest volume in 10 months
\n
Maybe not a coincidence, the recent rally in TSLA was accompanied by a noticeable spike in dollar volume traded. The graph below shows that, on a six-week average that today encompasses the entire Q4 period, $28 billion worth of Tesla stock have traded hands daily.
\n
The prior records had been in (1) early September 2020, following the unwind of the share split-driven rally; and (2) early January 2021, at the end of the post-election bounce. Such dives are highly unusual for stocks in general, especially outside earnings week, although less so for such a volatile name as Tesla.
\n
The two other instances in which Tesla declined more than 15% in only three trading days, over the past five years, had been in early September 2020 (again, the unwind of the stock split rally) and February 2020 (oddly enough, a pullback that was seemingly unrelated to the global COVID-19 crisis that was about to unfold a couple of weeks later).
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Stock: 3 Cool Facts About the Rally and Pullback
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTesla Stock: 3 Cool Facts About the Rally and Pullback\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-11-17 23:26 GMT+8 TheStreet\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Tesla shares have been on a tear in Q4. Netflix plans to add new clips daily based on its current and future offerings.\nThe video-streaming giant is experimenting with new features that can expose customers to more titles in its catalogue. The move is also an attempt to reach the kind of viewers who might normally watch TikTok or short clips on YouTube.\nThe effort, which Netflix referred to as a test, builds on an earlier feature called \"Fast Laughs\" that spotlights comedy clips. It launched earlier this year. Netflix also has created rankings of its most popular titles, giving users another way to find shows they might like.\nThe kids' feed will resemble Fast Laughs, but the videos will be viewed horizontally - as opposed to vertically - and will take over the entire screen. Kids will only be able to watch 10 to 20 clips at a time.\nThe feature will begin rolling out this week in the United States and Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America, as well as markets such as Canada, Australia and Ireland. Netflix confirmed the launch of the new feature after its presence was discovered in hidden code by iOS developer Steve Moser and shared with Bloomberg News.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1372,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":848850101,"gmtCreate":1635990343670,"gmtModify":1635990343933,"author":{"id":"3575363327829260","authorId":"3575363327829260","name":"2021koon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ad08d3b98fb2d860daf2e2b2916dc11e","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575363327829260","authorIdStr":"3575363327829260"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Crazy! Shares of large, fast-growing companies are heading toward their worst month since the pandemic-fueled selloff of March 2020, and Treasury yields have shot up to their highest level since June.
\n
It is hardly the sanguine end to the quarter that investors had hoped for. Many money managers say they are heading into the final few months of the year feeling on edge.
\n
Central bankers who had thought this year’s rise in inflation would wind up being a short-term phenomenon aren’t sure how long transitory pressures will persist. Strategists who had predicted another strong quarter of economic growth are cutting estimates because of supply-chain bottlenecks and the highly contagious Delta variant of Covid-19. Economic data have also been falling short of expectations.Citigroup’sEconomic Surprise Index, which tracks how much U.S. reports have been exceeding or undershooting estimates, fell this month to its lowest level since June 2020.
\n
All told, the S&P 500 is still up 16% for the year and on course to notch a sixth straight quarter of gains. The index is just a few percentage points away from its record close hit in early September.
\n

\n
“Sometimes the narrative is clean and easy,” said Keith Lerner, co-chief investment officer of Truist Advisory Services. But now, “I feel like you’re having to find opportunities in a market where not everything is moving together anymore.”
\n
While Mr. Lerner is still betting on stocks rising over the long term, his firm has trimmed its exposure to emerging markets and focused heavily on the U.S., where he expects the economy to be most resilient, even as the global recovery slows.
\n
One of the most vexing issues for investors and analysts over the past few months has been how quickly the market has churned through winners and losers.
\n
So far this year, companies have been able to post robust profits despite rising costs for raw materials and labor. The floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
\n
Markets behaved relatively predictably in the first half of the year. Investors favored shares of economically sensitive companies such as banks, manufacturers and airlines and rebuffed relatively pricey technology stocks when it looked as though the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines would help supercharge the economy’s recovery.
\n
This quarter, as the so-called reopening trade stalled, it became harder for investors to pick dominant trades. Technology stocks surged but then took the brunt of market selloffs in early September and this week—putting the S&P 500 Growth Index on track for its biggest monthly pullback since March 2020.
\n
The bond market also caught many investors off guard. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note flitted about a narrow range for much of the quarter, only to stage a six-day rise above 1.50% between last week and Tuesday—its biggest such advance since June 2020, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The move came after the Federal Reserve indicated it was ready to begin reversing its pandemic stimulus programs as early as November and considering raising interest rates next year, given a jump in inflation.
\n
“Even though there’s all this discussion about the market being resilient, the churn under the surface has shown more weakness,” said Liz Ann Sonders, chief investment strategist of Charles Schwab.
\n
Ms. Sonders attributed the swift rotations taking place in the market to a bevy of investor worries.
\n
“You have concerns about the virus, then you add on top of it concerns about the debt ceiling, some arguably more mixed economic data recently, [and] uncertainty about monetary policy,” she said. “I don’t know if we’ll get out of this mode anytime soon.”
\n
Another issue weighing on investors’ minds: inflation.
\n
So far this year, companies have been able to post robust profits despite rising costs for raw materials and labor. Shares of large, fast-growing companies are heading toward their worst month since the pandemic-fueled selloff of March 2020, and Treasury yields have shot up to their highest level since June.\nIt is hardly the sanguine end to the quarter that investors had hoped for. Many money managers say they are heading into the final few months of the year feeling on edge.\nCentral bankers who had thought this year’s rise in inflation would wind up being a short-term phenomenon aren’t sure how long transitory pressures will persist. Strategists who had predicted another strong quarter of economic growth are cutting estimates because of supply-chain bottlenecks and the highly contagious Delta variant of Covid-19. Economic data have also been falling short of expectations.Citigroup’sEconomic Surprise Index, which tracks how much U.S. reports have been exceeding or undershooting estimates, fell this month to its lowest level since June 2020.\nAll told, the S&P 500 is still up 16% for the year and on course to notch a sixth straight quarter of gains. The index is just a few percentage points away from its record close hit in early September.\n\n“Sometimes the narrative is clean and easy,” said Keith Lerner, co-chief investment officer of Truist Advisory Services. But now, “I feel like you’re having to find opportunities in a market where not everything is moving together anymore.”\nWhile Mr. Lerner is still betting on stocks rising over the long term, his firm has trimmed its exposure to emerging markets and focused heavily on the U.S., where he expects the economy to be most resilient, even as the global recovery slows.\nOne of the most vexing issues for investors and analysts over the past few months has been how quickly the market has churned through winners and losers.\nSo far this year, companies have been able to post robust profits despite rising costs for raw materials and labor. The floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday.\nMarkets behaved relatively predictably in the first half of the year. Investors favored shares of economically sensitive companies such as banks, manufacturers and airlines and rebuffed relatively pricey technology stocks when it looked as though the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines would help supercharge the economy’s recovery.\nThis quarter, as the so-called reopening trade stalled, it became harder for investors to pick dominant trades. Technology stocks surged but then took the brunt of market selloffs in early September and this week—putting the S&P 500 Growth Index on track for its biggest monthly pullback since March 2020.\nThe bond market also caught many investors off guard. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note flitted about a narrow range for much of the quarter, only to stage a six-day rise above 1.50% between last week and Tuesday—its biggest such advance since June 2020, according to Dow Jones Market Data. The move came after the Federal Reserve indicated it was ready to begin reversing its pandemic stimulus programs as early as November and considering raising interest rates next year, given a jump in inflation.\n“Even though there’s all this discussion about the market being resilient, the churn under the surface has shown more weakness,” said Liz Ann Sonders, chief investment strategist of Charles Schwab.\nMs. Sonders attributed the swift rotations taking place in the market to a bevy of investor worries.\n“You have concerns about the virus, then you add on top of it concerns about the debt ceiling, some arguably more mixed economic data recently, [and] uncertainty about monetary policy,” she said. “I don’t know if we’ll get out of this mode anytime soon.”\nAnother issue weighing on investors’ minds: inflation.\nSo far this year, companies have been able to post robust profits despite rising costs for raw materials and labor. Earnings for S&P 500 companies have beaten analysts’ estimates by double-digit percentages since the second quarter of 2020, according to Morgan Stanley equity strategist Michael Wilson. That is compared with a median beat rate of 5% going back to 2008.\nYet with supply-chain disruptions and labor shortages persisting around the country, Mr. Wilson said it is hard to believe companies will be able to maintain that momentum.\nBetween June and September, 224 S&P 500 companies mentioned inflation on their second-quarter earnings calls, according to FactSet. That is the highest number since FactSet began tracking the data in 2010.\n\nHistorically, when a relatively high number of companies have mentioned inflation, profit margins have shrunk, Mr. Wilson said.\nInvestors are left grappling with one big question: How much of that has already been priced into markets?\n“I’m a little concerned about 2022,” said Karyn Cavanaugh, chief investment officer of Carolinas Wealth Management. “When we don’t see the double-digit increases we’re used to for earnings, are the markets going to ask, ‘Hey, what have you done for me lately?’ ”\nMs. Cavanaugh has been advising clients to focus on “wide moat stocks”—companies with a strong record of delivering profits regardless of whether growth is slowing or accelerating because they maintain a competitive advantage over their peers.\nGiven so many potential issues remain unresolved, from debt negotiations and potential changes to the tax code in Washington to the pandemic, Ms. Cavanaugh said she expects the market’s path from here to be bumpy.\n“We could be in for a bit of a grind,” she said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":647,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":861445123,"gmtCreate":1632534517562,"gmtModify":1632710142766,"author":{"id":"3575363327829260","authorId":"3575363327829260","name":"2021koon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ad08d3b98fb2d860daf2e2b2916dc11e","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575363327829260","authorIdStr":"3575363327829260"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"All so expensive!","listText":"All so expensive!","text":"All so expensive!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/861445123","repostId":"2169615117","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":249,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":860236440,"gmtCreate":1632181496580,"gmtModify":1632802312634,"author":{"id":"3575363327829260","authorId":"3575363327829260","name":"2021koon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ad08d3b98fb2d860daf2e2b2916dc11e","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575363327829260","authorIdStr":"3575363327829260"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Still believe in Apple power!","listText":"Still believe in Apple power!","text":"Still believe in Apple power!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/860236440","repostId":"2168839686","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":498,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":884496797,"gmtCreate":1631924754019,"gmtModify":1632805345913,"author":{"id":"3575363327829260","authorId":"3575363327829260","name":"2021koon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ad08d3b98fb2d860daf2e2b2916dc11e","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575363327829260","authorIdStr":"3575363327829260"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Seriously looking but sep not good time to buy yet. The extreme move comes after a .2 billion deal to sell 1,000 Model 3’s to Hertz Global Holdings Inc (OTC: HTZZ).
\n
Tesla’s Big Move: Tesla CEO Elon Musk is seemingly one of many people somewhat puzzled about how a $4.2 billion deal could generate $400 billion in gains for Tesla stock.
\n
“Tesla has far more demand than production, therefore we will only sell cars to Hertz for the same margin as to consumers. Hertz deal has zero effect on our economics,” Musk tweeted.
\n
DataTrek Research co-founder Nicholas Colas said it’s understandable that short sellers may see an opportunity to short Tesla stock after its extreme move higher. In fact, Tela has outperformed the S&P 500 by about 77% in the past 100 days, a performance that may seem like an opportunity for a mean reversion trade at first glance.
\n
History Of Volatility: However, Colas said Tesla has historically been extremely volatile relative to the S&P 500. In fact, over the past 10 years, Colas said Tesla has averaged a 25% outperformance over the past 10 years over any given 100-day period with a standard deviation of 61%. The extreme move comes after a .2 billion deal to sell 1,000 Model 3’s to Hertz Global Holdings Inc (OTC: HTZZ).\nTesla’s Big Move: Tesla CEO Elon Musk is seemingly one of many people somewhat puzzled about how a $4.2 billion deal could generate $400 billion in gains for Tesla stock.\n“Tesla has far more demand than production, therefore we will only sell cars to Hertz for the same margin as to consumers. Hertz deal has zero effect on our economics,” Musk tweeted.\nDataTrek Research co-founder Nicholas Colas said it’s understandable that short sellers may see an opportunity to short Tesla stock after its extreme move higher. In fact, Tela has outperformed the S&P 500 by about 77% in the past 100 days, a performance that may seem like an opportunity for a mean reversion trade at first glance.\nHistory Of Volatility: However, Colas said Tesla has historically been extremely volatile relative to the S&P 500. In fact, over the past 10 years, Colas said Tesla has averaged a 25% outperformance over the past 10 years over any given 100-day period with a standard deviation of 61%. In other words, the one standard deviation relative return band for Tesla relative to the S&P 500 is -36% to +86%.\nStrangely, Tesla’s relative volatility hasn’t shrunk even as the company’s market cap has exploded higher.\n“Don’t short Tesla here. And it's no secret that Chinese EV stocks were some of the most popular, as the largest automotive market in the world continues to move toward electrification in its transportation sector.
\n
EV sales in China surpassed 1 million in 2020, and the government hopes to grow that to 5 million by 2025. It could reach 10 million by 2030, and approach 20 million by 2040, according to research organization BloombergNEF. Two electric automakers looking to capitalize on that expansion are NIO (NYSE:NIO) and XPeng (NYSE:XPEV). Investors may be wondering which is the better buy, particularly after a correction has hit share prices in the sector.
\n
The right market
\n
As noted above, the largest automotive market in the world has much potential forEV growth. The problem is, there will be plenty of companies seeking to capitalize.Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) built its second manufacturing plant in Shanghai for a reason. And though they're maybe the most well-known Chinese EV makers, NIO and XPeng combined delivered only slightly more than half the 131,000 battery-electric vehicles that BYD (OTC:BYDDY) sold in 2020.
\n
NIO reached almost 44,000 vehicles delivered in 2020, while XPeng more than doubled its volume versus 2019 to 27,041. Both companies have recently introduced sedan models that each hopes will be significant drivers of future sales growth.
\n
XPeng's P7 sports sedan has surpassed a total of 20,000 cumulative deliveries since its launch in early 2020, as it moves ahead of the G3 compact SUV as the company's most popular vehicle. That marked the fastest pace to 20,000 vehicle deliveries of any Chinese EV start-up.
\n
NIO introduced its new ET7 luxury sedan earlier this year. The ET7 will be available early next year, and has some intricate features. And it's no secret that Chinese EV stocks were some of the most popular, as the largest automotive market in the world continues to move toward electrification in its transportation sector.\nEV sales in China surpassed 1 million in 2020, and the government hopes to grow that to 5 million by 2025. It could reach 10 million by 2030, and approach 20 million by 2040, according to research organization BloombergNEF. Two electric automakers looking to capitalize on that expansion are NIO (NYSE:NIO) and XPeng (NYSE:XPEV). Investors may be wondering which is the better buy, particularly after a correction has hit share prices in the sector.\nThe right market\nAs noted above, the largest automotive market in the world has much potential forEV growth. The problem is, there will be plenty of companies seeking to capitalize.Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) built its second manufacturing plant in Shanghai for a reason. And though they're maybe the most well-known Chinese EV makers, NIO and XPeng combined delivered only slightly more than half the 131,000 battery-electric vehicles that BYD (OTC:BYDDY) sold in 2020.\nNIO reached almost 44,000 vehicles delivered in 2020, while XPeng more than doubled its volume versus 2019 to 27,041. Both companies have recently introduced sedan models that each hopes will be significant drivers of future sales growth.\nXPeng's P7 sports sedan has surpassed a total of 20,000 cumulative deliveries since its launch in early 2020, as it moves ahead of the G3 compact SUV as the company's most popular vehicle. That marked the fastest pace to 20,000 vehicle deliveries of any Chinese EV start-up.\nNIO introduced its new ET7 luxury sedan earlier this year. The ET7 will be available early next year, and has some intricate features. The sleek exterior includes autonomous driving sensors, a \"crystal-like heartbeat\" tail light, all-glass roof, and a digital entry system that extends the flush handle and automatically releases the door's \"e-latch\" as the driver approaches.\nPriced for perfection\nThe strong sales growth along with massive potential for Chinese EVs had investors already piling into these stocks. But after shares of both NIO and XPeng soared last year, the stocks are off January 2021 highs by 27% and 38% respectively, making now a good time to see which may be the better buy.\nNeither company is profitable yet, so one way to measure valuations is using sales rather than earnings. The price-to-sales ratios (P/S) are both very high, but sales are expected to grow quickly, and it's a relevant metric for comparing the two companies.\nNIO MARKET CAP DATA BY YCHARTS\nThough NIO has the higher market cap, it is less expensive than XPeng as measured by the P/S ratio. NIO also has a unique approach to the market with its battery swap program, which allows customers to \"recharge\" via a faster battery exchange. The company says its automated battery swap stations take only three minutes to produce a fully charged battery replacement.\nLooking ahead\nNIO's push into the luxury sedan segment with its ET7 could help advance the company to the next level. The S&P 500 erased a 0.7% loss and rose 0.3% to a record closing high of 3,974.12. The Nasdaq Composite wiped out earlier losses and ended the day 0.4% higher at 13,525.20. The tech-heavy benchmark fell 1.5% at one point as growth stocks came under pressure amid surging bond yields again.\nWhile the Fed expects benchmark interest rates to remain near zero for the next two years, the central bank upgraded their economic outlook to reflect expectations for a stronger recovery from the pandemic-triggered recession. Gross domestic product is expected to grow 6.5% in 2021 before cooling off in later years.\nExpectations for core inflation also moved higher, with the committee now looking for a 2.2% gain this year as measured by personal consumption expenditures. The central bank’s stated goal is to keep inflation at 2% over the long run.\n“It sounds like the perfect scenario for investors and the outlook and you’re seeing market response to this very optimistic view,” said Michael Arone, chief investment strategist at State Street Global Advisors. “Monetary policy is going to remain largely accommodative almost regardless of what happens with interest rates, inflation and asset prices.”\nFed Chair Jerome Powell said in a press conference that the Fed would need to see a material and sustained move in inflation above 2% before considering changes to its current easy policy stance.\n“We do expect that we’ll begin to make faster progress on both labor markets and inflation as the year goes on because of the progress with the vaccines, because of the fiscal support that we’re getting,” Powell said. “We expect that to happen, but we’ll have to see it first.”\nThe 10-year Treasury yield came off its high of the day following the central bank’s update, rising 2 basis points to 1.64%. Earlier in the session, the benchmark rate jumped to 1.689%, hitting a level unseen since late January 2020. Higher rates have been hurting growth-oriented companies particularly hard as they erode the value of future cash flows.\n“With the 2023 median plot still hugging the floor, stocks and bonds are rising again,” said Anu Gaggar, senior global investment analyst at Commonwealth Financial Network. “This is like a Goldilocks market – strong economic growth, moderately higher inflation, rebounding earnings, and very easy monetary conditions.”\nRising interest rates have been an overhang for stocks in recent weeks and accelerated a shift into value stocks from growth. The Russell 2000 has rallied 18% this year so far as investors went bargain-hunting in the small-cap space. The biggest winning sectors in 2021 have been energy and financials, up 35% and 16%, respectively.\nShares of Disney gained 0.5% after CEO Bob Chapek told CNBC that California’s two Disneyland theme parks will reopen on April 30.McDonald’s climbed 1.9% after Deutsche Bank upgraded the stock to buy from hold.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":792,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":366403314,"gmtCreate":1614526830238,"gmtModify":1703478026203,"author":{"id":"3575363327829260","authorId":"3575363327829260","name":"2021koon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ad08d3b98fb2d860daf2e2b2916dc11e","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575363327829260","authorIdStr":"3575363327829260"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hongkong will emerge stronger. That includes allowing listings of dual-class shares and attracting U.S.-listed Chinese companies to seek a secondary listing in Hong Kong, he said.\nHong Kong in 2020 was one of the top markets for listings globally as Chinese firms such as e-commerce giant JD.com and gaming company NetEase raised funds through secondary listings.\nIn total, the city’s stock exchange saw 132 initial public offerings worth $32.1 billion, and 199 further offerings worth $62.9 billion last year, according to data compiled by consultancy PwC.\nWith such “robust” capital markets activity, raising the trading stamp duty may offer Hong Kong “a quick solution” to increase its tax revenue in the short term, said Stanley Ho, a partner for corporate tax advisory at consultancy KPMG China.\n“However, it is also important for Hong Kong’s capital markets to stay competitive with global financial markets, many of which are trending towards reducing or removing such duties,” Ho said in a statement after Chan’s budget speech.\nChan said he remains confident of Hong Kong’s prospects as an international financial center.\nHe explained that the government is working on promoting Hong Kong as a center for sustainable and green finance, developing further the city’s fixed income markets and encouraging more activity in the asset and wealth management sectors.\nOn the stock market sell-off after his announcement of the trading tax hike, Chan said Hong Kong wasn’t the only one experiencing a “downward adjustment” following a previous run-up.\n“So, I would not be bothered by temporary fluctuations in the market. What we believe is we continue to work hard to enhance the offering of our market to further enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Hong Kong market,” he said.\n“We will continue to attract inflow of international capital.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":118,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":604323732,"gmtCreate":1639352671724,"gmtModify":1639352671923,"author":{"id":"3575363327829260","authorId":"3575363327829260","name":"2021koon","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ad08d3b98fb2d860daf2e2b2916dc11e","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575363327829260","authorIdStr":"3575363327829260"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hope it delivers it's promise","listText":"Hope it delivers it's promise","text":"Hope it delivers it's promise","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/604323732","repostId":"1198112426","repostType":2,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1396,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
