data that could influence the Federal Reserve’s timeline for reducing stimulus measures.
\n
Futures for the S&P 500 gained 0.3% Friday. The index retreated Thursday but was on track for its strongest week of gains since February. Contracts for the tech-focused Nasdaq-100 rose 0.3% Friday, and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were up 0.1%.
\n
Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal expect that U.S. inflation hit an almost four-decade high in November. Price pressures have been driven by strong demand and supply-chain woes related to the pandemic, as well as higher energy prices.
\n
The Federal Reserve will hold a two-meeting meeting next week at which it may provide more details about how it plans to wind down its bond-buying program and when it plans to begin raising interest rates. Investors are waiting to see whether officials signal a faster end to stimulus than currently expected and how they characterize inflation.
\n
“What we see is this lack of direction [in markets]: one day going up, one day going down and today what we are really looking to see are the U.S. inflation numbers,” said Frank Øland Winther, global chief strategist at Danske Bank.
\n
In bond markets on Friday, the yield on the 10-year Treasury note—which rises when prices fall—ticked up to 1.518%, from 1.486% Thursday. Brent crude futures, the benchmark in global oil markets, rose 0.2% to $74.55 a barrel, and were up 7.7% for the month.
\n
In premarket trading,Oracle shares gained more than 10% after the database giant reported second-quarter results that beat estimates.Broadcom shares added more than 5% after the company posted better-than-expected results, provided strong January-quarter guidance, raised its dividend and announced a stock-repurchase program.
\n
Overseas, the pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 fell 0.4%. Shares of auto maker Daimler fell more than 15% as its spun-off trucks business, Daimler Truck Holding, began trading in Germany on Friday.
\n
Major indexes in Asia closed lower. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined 1.1%, and Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1%. South Korea’s Kospi shed 0.6% and China’s Shanghai Composite edged down 0.2%.
\n
China Fortune Land Development’s shares rose 10% in Shanghai trading after the indebted property developer said creditors had approved a debt restructuring plan, potentially throwing it a lifeline. The target presents an 18% increase from Apple’s (ticker: AAPL) $161.84 closing price on Friday. The stock was up 1.2% to $163.73 in premarket trading Monday.
\n
Of the 42 analysts covering the stock surveyed by FactSet, 32 have it at a Buy or Overweight rating, nine rated it at Hold, and one rated it Underweight.
\n
“While AAPL is expensive by historical valuations, we find AAPL attractive relative to other mega-caps,” Nispel wrote on Monday.
\n
The analyst outlined three main reasons for his bullish take. Nispel doesn’t believe iPhone unit sales have peaked, with the 5G upgrade cycle potentially pushing Apple past its current peak; he believes the company has managed to increase its product breadth to reduce reliability on iPhone sales; and he foresees services to grow at rates multiple times faster than user growth.
\n
The analyst forecasts Apple to have 1.09 billion active iPhones and 1.8 billion active installed devices by the end of the first quarter of the 2022 fiscal year. This presents a 7% and 8% year-over-year increase, respectively.
\n
“This shows a healthy growing user base where Apple iPhone market share is low relative to key geographies outside the United States,” Nispel wrote. “As the installed base grows, a larger base can support more sales on lower upgrade rates.”
\n
Apple’s international segment is likely to grow faster in the coming years as other countries adapt to 5G, prompting a wave of upgrades to compatible hardware, Nispel wrote. He estimates every 1% increase in 5G upgrade rates could drive an incremental 11 million iPhone unit sales.
\n
As hardware adoption grows, so does Apple’s services business. The segment, which includes services such as Apple TV+, Music, News+, AppleCare, Advertising, and Cloud, has grown 27% in the 2021 fiscal year. Over time, it could become a key profitability driver, growing to more than $100 billion by 2024, Nispel said.
\n
Nispel recognized that Apple’s App Store legal battles were concerning, but were “likely more a bend, not break outcome.” The company has had to make modest changes to its App Store guidance in response to court rulings and regulatory changes, including lowering its commission for some developers. It will likely make more concessions over time, such as allowing developers to provide third-party payment options, Nispel said.
\n
“We expect regulation to take time to implement, and believe Apple’s competitive advantage is unlikely to be substantially harmed,” he added.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Stock Is an Attractive Buy, Says KeyBanc. In early 2020, the companies said they are shelving the plans for a Lincoln-branded EV but would go ahead with an alternative vehicle based on Rivian technology.
\n
The Ford CEO suggested in the interview that the company is now increasingly confident in competing in the EV space by itself. Another handicap that forced the going-solo decision was the complexities involved in integrating the hardware and software together.
\n
Why It's Important:Rivian shares debuted on Wall Street on Nov. 10 following aninitial public offeringat a bumper valuation of over $100 billion. The company's strong debut and the subsequent run up in shares have raised eyebrows over its valuation which has taken it past the market capitalization of legacy U.S. automakers, including Ford.
\n
Rivian's product pipeline consists of RIT, an EV pickup truck, which it began delivering to customers in September. As of Oct. 30, the company produced 180 R1Ts and delivered 156 R1Ts, with the bulk of them going to the company's employees.
\n
The company noted that at the end of October, it had preorders of about 55,400 R1Ts and R1Ss. It expects to fill the preorder backlog by the end of 2023.
\n
Ford, for its part, has doubled on itsEV strategyand invested big dollars into its transition toward EVs.
\n
\"We respect Rivian and have had extensive exploratory discussions with them, however, both sides have agreed not to pursue any kind of joint vehicle development or platform sharing,\" Ford said in an emailed statement to media.
\n
Rivian, meanwhile, confirmed that it is a mutual decision to focus on each of their own projects and deliveries, given Ford has scaled its own EV strategy and demand for Rivian vehicles has grown.
\n
\"Our relationship with Ford is an important part of our journey, and Ford remains an investor and ally on our shared path to an electrified future\" a Rivian spokesperson said.
\n
Rivian closed Friday's session up 4.23% at $128.60, while Ford closed down 0.87% at $19.39.
","source":"lsy1606299360108","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; As of Oct. 30, the company produced 180 R1Ts and delivered 156 R1Ts, with the bulk of them going to the company's employees.\nThe company noted that at the end of October, it had preorders of about 55,400 R1Ts and R1Ss. It expects to fill the preorder backlog by the end of 2023.\nFord, for its part, has doubled on itsEV strategyand invested big dollars into its transition toward EVs.\n\"We respect Rivian and have had extensive exploratory discussions with them, however, both sides have agreed not to pursue any kind of joint vehicle development or platform sharing,\" Ford said in an emailed statement to media.\nRivian, meanwhile, confirmed that it is a mutual decision to focus on each of their own projects and deliveries, given Ford has scaled its own EV strategy and demand for Rivian vehicles has grown.\n\"Our relationship with Ford is an important part of our journey, and Ford remains an investor and ally on our shared path to an electrified future\" a Rivian spokesperson said.\nRivian closed Friday's session up 4.23% at $128.60, while Ford closed down 0.87% at $19.39.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":458,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":878381838,"gmtCreate":1637149458699,"gmtModify":1637149459108,"author":{"id":"3579600897400043","authorId":"3579600897400043","name":"Yuyu1988","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/34360b9887bbf562af82f13ffcd1affb","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3579600897400043","authorIdStr":"3579600897400043"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good read ","listText":"Good read ","text":"Good read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/878381838","repostId":"1163497205","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1163497205","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1637148437,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1163497205?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-11-17 19:27","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Biden heads to Detroit to tout U.S. investment in electric vehicle market","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1163497205","media":"Reuters","summary":"President Joe Biden will take his victory tour celebrating a new U.S. infrastructure law to Detroit ","content":"
President Joe Biden will take his victory tour celebrating a new U.S. infrastructure law to Detroit on Wednesday to tout investments aimed at boosting the market for electric vehicles.
\n
Biden, a Democrat, signed the $1 trillion infrastructure bill into law on Monday and, with his approval ratings sagging, is eager to promote it as the fulfillment of a promise he made as a presidential candidate in the 2020 race for the White House.
\n
The law, which passed with support from Democrats and Republicans, provides $7.5 billion in funding to build out the nation’s electric vehicle charging network, investments the industry says will inspire more Americans to buy electric vehicles and manufacturers to produce them.
\n
It provides money to build EV chargers along highway corridors and within communities to help facilitate long-distance and local travel.
\n
Biden will highlight the investments during a visit to a General Motors Co(GM.N) electric vehicle assembly plant in Detroit, the largest city in Michigan, a key political battleground state in U.S. elections.
\n
The president will deliver remarks on how the law \"builds electric vehicle charging stations across the country to make it easier to drive an electric vehicle, reduces emissions to fight the climate crisis, and creates good-paying, union jobs across the country,\" the White House said in a statement.
\n
A broad transition to electric cars and trucks will help the United States meet Biden's pledge to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions 50% from 2005 levels by 2030.
\n
Democrats are working on a separate social spending and climate bill that contains up to $12,500 in tax credits for U.S.-made EVs, including a $4,500 credit for union-made vehicles. That's a 29% premium to Morrisons' (MRWSF) closing price on Friday, giving it a market value of around £5.5 billion ($7.6 billion).
\n
Shares in the company surged more than 30% in London on Monday, taking the share price above the takeover offer and lifting other stocks in the sector. Sainsbury's (JSNSF) and Ocado (OCDDY) climbed over 4%, with Marks & Spencer (MAKSY) rising nearly 3% and Tesco (TSCDF) up more than 1%.
\n
Morrisons rejected the proposal in its statement on Saturday, saying that it \"significantly undervalued\" the company and its future prospects. Clayton, Dubilier & Rice now has until July 17 to make a firm offer.
\n
The move comes amid heightened investor activity in UK retail and a spate of takeover bids for British companies, undervalued for years because of poor returns linked to drab growth and a weak pound following the Brexit referendum of 2016.
\n
In October, Walmart (WMT) sold supermarket chain Asda to European private equity group TDR Capital and the founders of a global convenience store business. Separately, Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky recently increased his stake in Sainsbury's to 10%, adding to speculation that it could be the next takeover target.
\n
Analysts are speculating that Tesco, Britain's biggest supermarket chain, might also attract a buyer.
\n
\"The volume of liquidity, reflecting monetary policy, and the uptake of capital by family offices, high net worth investors and private equity, means that even Tesco, with its £18 billion ($25 billion) market capitalization, is not too big to be subject to an offer,\" Clive Black, head of research at Shore Capital said in a note on Monday.
\n
Sainsbury's and Tesco, which benefited from a surge in demand during lockdowns, are now poised to benefit from a strong economic recovery in Britain following the pandemic. Analysts say shoppers are likely to continue eating more meals at home even with restaurants reopening, particularly as many offices remain closed.
\n
Tesco CEO Ken Murphy told analysts on a call on Friday that online demand has been \"incredibly resilient even with the easing of restrictions.\"
\n
\"We expect sales to remain well above pre Covid-19 level through the remainder of the year,\" he added.
\n
Both leading retailers have also managed to keep costs under control, are generating large amounts of cash and have narrowed price gaps with German discounters Aldi and Lidl, according to Shore Capital's Black.
\n
This could make them prime targets for the likes of Amazon (AMZN), he added. \"The Asda bid and the Kretinsky investment means that the topic of Amazon's plans will also be one of ongoing discussion around Sainsbury and Tesco,\" Black said.
\n
The online retailer, which has been expanding its grocery offering since buying Whole Foods in 2017, already has a close relationship with Morrisons, which supplies its Prime and Pantry customers in the United Kingdom with dry, fresh and frozen products.
\n
But the market is not betting on a rival bid from Amazon. \"There is no indication in the [Morrisons] share price today that Amazon will come in and outbid Clayton, Dubilier & Rice,\" said Russ Mould, investment director at stockbroker AJ Bell.
\n
With a languishing share price and over £7 billion ($9.7 billion) in assets, including a real estate portfolio worth more than the company's market value, Morrisons \"ticks a lot of private equity boxes,\" he told CNN Business.
\n
Returning to favor?
\n
Investor interest in UK assets extends beyond grocers. There have been over 50 bids for UK-listed companies in the last eight months, only six of which have since been abandoned, according to Mould.
\n
The average premium offered has been 34%, indicating that many of these companies may be undervalued by the market following years of weak shareholder returns. Over the last 12 months, there have been 95 announced offers for UK-listed companies with a combined value of $107 billion, according to Dealogic data.
\n
\"The UK has consistently underperformed on the global stage since June 2016's Brexit vote and sterling has failed to regain the levels at which it traded before Britain decide to leave the EU,\" Mould said in a recent note. \"That rotten effort may mean that UK stocks are unloved and therefore potentially undervalued,\" he added.
\n
UK and European stock market indexes stand to benefit from the post-pandemic recovery, given the high representation of companies such as automakers and banks that perform well when the economy is on the upswing.
\n
They may also offer better value for investors following much more robust gains in US indexes over the past decade, when European markets have been held back by a dearth of tech companies and lackluster economic growth in the region.
\n
The FTSE 100 (UKX) has climbed just 26% over the past decade, while Europe's STOXX 600 (SXXL) is up 85%.
