Before the holiday break,Nike and Micron Technology report on Monday,BlackBerry and General Mills on Tuesday, and CarMax,Cintas, and Paychex on Wednesday.
\n
It will be a busy week of economic data releases. On Monday, the Conference Board publishes its Leading Economic Index for November, followed by its Consumer Confidence Index for December on Wednesday.
\n
On Thursday, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports personal income and consumption expenditures for November. Consumer earnings are forecast to have risen 0.6% while spending is seen climbing 0.5%. The Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation, the core PCE price index, is expected to have spiked 4.5% in November.
\n
Also Thursday, the Census Bureau releases the durable goods report for November, which will provide a window into investment spending in the economy. New orders are forecast to have risen 2.1%. Housing-market indicators out this week include existing-home sales for November on Wednesday and new-home sales for November on Thursday.
\n
Monday 12/20
\n
Micron Technology and Nike report quarterly results.
\n
The Conference Board releases its Leading Economic Index for November. Consensus estimate is for a 119 reading, which would be 0.6% more than October’s level. The Conference Board currently projects a 5% growth rate for fourth-quarter gross domestic product and a slower but still robust 2.6% for 2022.
\n
Tuesday 12/21
\n
BlackBerry,FactSet Research Systems, and General Mills announce earnings.
\n
Wednesday 12/22
\n
The NAR reports existing-home sales for November. Economists forecast a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 6.4 million homes sold, slightly more than in October and the highest since the beginning of the year.
\n
CarMax, Cintas, and Paychex hold conference calls to discuss quarterly results.
\n
The Bureau of Economic Analysis reports its third and final estimate for third-quarter GDP. Economists forecast a 2.1% seasonally adjusted annual growth rate, unchanged from November’s second estimate.
\n
The Conference Board releases its Consumer Confidence Index for December. Expectations are for a 110 reading, roughly even with the November data. The index is 15% lower than the postpandemic peak reached in June of this year, due to concerns about rising prices and, to a lesser degree, Covid-19 variants.
\n
Thursday 12/23
\n
The Department of Labor reports initial jobless claims for the week ending on Dec. 18. Jobless claims have averaged 225,667 a week in November and December, and have finally reached prepandemic levels.
\n
The Census Bureau reports new-home sales for November. Consensus estimate is for a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 770,000 new single-family houses sold, 25,000 more than in October. The median sales price of new houses sold in October was $407,700, while the average sales price was $477,800—both record highs.
\n
The BEA reports personal income and consumption expenditures for November. Economists forecast a 0.6% monthly increase for income and 0.5% for consumption. This compares with gains for 0.5% and 1.3%, respectively, in October. The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge, the core PCE price index, jumped 4.1% year over year in October, the fastest rate since 1991. Predictions are for it to spike 4.6% in November.
\n
The Census Bureau releases the durable goods report for November. New orders for durable manufactured goods are expected to increase 2.1%, to $265.6 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders are seen gaining 0.6%, compared with a 0.5% rise in October.
\n
Friday 12/24
\n
U.S. equity and fixed-income markets are closed in observance of Christmas.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Nike, Micron, BlackBerry, CarMax, and Other Stocks for Investors to Watch This Week
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nNike, Micron, BlackBerry, CarMax, and Other Stocks for Investors to Watch This Week\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-20 06:39 GMT+8 Barrons\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Stock and bond markets around the world will be closed Friday in observance of Christmas. Microsoft (MSFT) also thinks so highly of its outlook that it believes it could surpass $50 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time with its next report. Investors should also be pleased with how Microsoft (MSFT) has performed on the stock market this year, as its shares have climbed more than 44% since the end of 2021.
\n
And then there was the symbolic, if temporary, victory Microsoft (MSFT) could claim in October when it briefly took the title of World's Most Valuable Company away from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). So, needless to say, 2021 has been a good year for Microsoft (MSFT).
\n
But, this begs the question of what 2022 might look like for Microsoft (MSFT), and what are going to be the top priorities for Chief Executive Satya Nadella. While Microsoft (MSFT) may still be best-known to many for its Windows operating system, its Microsoft Word program and its Xbox videogame console, the company's data platform and management offerings are likely the areas where Nadella is focusing much of his attention.
\n
That's the opinion of Morgan Stanley analyst Keith Weiss, who said that Nadella's earnings call comments \"match well to the key priorities Microsoft is investing most aggressively behind.\" Based on how data offerings such as platforms and databases like Azure are playing a role in Microsoft's (MSFT) growth, it should come as no surprise that Nadella would make such areas a focus of the company's overall strategy for the foreseeable future.
\n
Weiss noted that based on industry data, Microsoft (MSFT) has become the No. 1 vendor for data management offerings, with a 28% share of the market. Cloud revenue has also more than doubled over that same period, from 3% to approximately 7% of sales, and Weiss said he expects such sales to be \"a key source\" of Microsoft's business growth heading into 2022.
\n
Weiss said that because of Microsoft's strong positioning in the data management market, and its management's high level of focus on data as part of the broader digital transformation, \"Within this data platform market, Microsoft's broad collection of cloud and on-premise data offerings lead to a No. 1 market position.\"
\n
Weiss, and other Morgan Stanley analysts, also rated Microsoft (MSFT) as to top pick for 2022 as part of a \"gut check\" look at the software sector for next year.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Microsoft's top priority for 2022? MRNA -0.44% over Johnson & Johnson’s JNJ 1.09% after health authorities said the rate of a rare but serious blood-clotting condition was higher than previously detected.
\n

\n
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted 15 to 0 to make the recommendation Thursday after hearing updates from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials on reports of J&J vaccine recipients experiencing blood clots combined with low blood-platelet levels.
\n

\n
The updated position is likely to deal another blow to the use of the J&J shot, whose uptake had been hurt by manufacturing issues and earlier reports of the blood-clotting condition.
\n

\n
There have been at least 54 cases of the condition, thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome, or TTS, among J&J vaccine recipients in the U.S., including nine resulting in deaths, CDC officials said Thursday.
\n

\n
The rate of cases is higher than previously estimated in both men and women, and in a wider age range, the officials said.
\n

\n
“I just cannot recommend vaccines associated with a condition that may lead to death,” said committee member Pablo Sanchez, a pediatric infectious-disease specialist at the Ohio State University-Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
\n

\n
J&J said it remained confident in the overall positive benefit-risk profile of its vaccine. “The safety and well-being of those who use the Johnson & Johnson vaccine continues to be our number one priority,” said Mathai Mammen, global head of J&J’s pharmaceutical research and development.
\n

\n
He said the company will work with the CDC on next steps, and strongly supports education about rare events such as TTS, and how to manage it.
\n

\n
J&J’s Covid-19 vaccine is based on a different technology than the messenger RNA used in the Pfizer and Moderna shots.
\n

\n
J&J’s vaccine includes a harmless version of a virus that can cause the common cold, which is engineered to contain genetic instructions that set off an immune response against the coronavirus. The mRNA vaccines don’t contain any viral material, and use a different way of delivering a genetic code that sets off an immune response against the coronavirus.
\n

\n
Earlier this year, federal health authorities paused the use of J&J’s vaccine while they investigated the condition TTS. Use of the vaccine resumed in April after health authorities concluded its benefits still outweighed the risks.
\n

\n
The ACIP, which advises the CDC on vaccine policy, voted in April to resume use of J&J’s vaccine, after meeting twice to discuss the issue. Warnings about the risk were added to fact sheets given to vaccine providers and recipients, including that the risk appeared highest among women ages 30 to 49.
\n
At that time, a total of 15 cases of TTS had been reported among nearly 7 million vaccine doses administered. All of the cases occurred in women between the ages of 18 and 59, with a median age of 37 years. Symptoms developed between six and 15 days after vaccination.
\n

\n
As of Aug. 31, CDC officials said at the advisers’ meeting, about 3.8 cases of TTS were reported for every million doses of J&J vaccine administered, across all recipients. The rate was highest among women ages 30 to 39, at 10.6 per million doses.
\n

\n
CDC officials also said that among those who develop TTS, the fatality rate was about 15%. The people who died deteriorated quickly after being admitted to the hospital, officials said.
\n

\n
CDC officials said getting J&J’s vaccine was still superior to not getting vaccinated, but the balance between the benefits and risks for the messenger RNA vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna was superior to J&J’s. And the current supply of mRNA vaccines in the U.S. is adequate, unlike earlier in the year.
\n

\n
A recommendation by the ACIP isn’t binding on vaccine providers or recipients, but it will carry significant weight because it has been rare for the committee to express a preference for one vaccine over another.
\n

\n

\n
Some committee members said that the J&J vaccine should remain available for people who aren’t able to take the mRNA vaccines.
\n

\n
Health officials say people with an allergy to ingredients in the mRNA vaccines, or who have had a severe allergic reaction to a dose of those vaccines, should not receive them.
\n

\n
The mRNA vaccines also carry a risk of causing heart-inflammation conditions including myocarditis, particularly among males under the age of 30. PFE 4.17% or Moderna Inc. MRNA -0.44% over Johnson & Johnson’s JNJ 1.09% after health authorities said the rate of a rare but serious blood-clotting condition was higher than previously detected.\n\nThe Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted 15 to 0 to make the recommendation Thursday after hearing updates from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials on reports of J&J vaccine recipients experiencing blood clots combined with low blood-platelet levels.\n\nThe updated position is likely to deal another blow to the use of the J&J shot, whose uptake had been hurt by manufacturing issues and earlier reports of the blood-clotting condition.\n\nThere have been at least 54 cases of the condition, thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome, or TTS, among J&J vaccine recipients in the U.S., including nine resulting in deaths, CDC officials said Thursday.\n\nThe rate of cases is higher than previously estimated in both men and women, and in a wider age range, the officials said.\n\n“I just cannot recommend vaccines associated with a condition that may lead to death,” said committee member Pablo Sanchez, a pediatric infectious-disease specialist at the Ohio State University-Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.\n\nJ&J said it remained confident in the overall positive benefit-risk profile of its vaccine. “The safety and well-being of those who use the Johnson & Johnson vaccine continues to be our number one priority,” said Mathai Mammen, global head of J&J’s pharmaceutical research and development.\n\nHe said the company will work with the CDC on next steps, and strongly supports education about rare events such as TTS, and how to manage it.\n\nJ&J’s Covid-19 vaccine is based on a different technology than the messenger RNA used in the Pfizer and Moderna shots.\n\nJ&J’s vaccine includes a harmless version of a virus that can cause the common cold, which is engineered to contain genetic instructions that set off an immune response against the coronavirus. The mRNA vaccines don’t contain any viral material, and use a different way of delivering a genetic code that sets off an immune response against the coronavirus.\n\nEarlier this year, federal health authorities paused the use of J&J’s vaccine while they investigated the condition TTS. Use of the vaccine resumed in April after health authorities concluded its benefits still outweighed the risks.\n\nThe ACIP, which advises the CDC on vaccine policy, voted in April to resume use of J&J’s vaccine, after meeting twice to discuss the issue. Warnings about the risk were added to fact sheets given to vaccine providers and recipients, including that the risk appeared highest among women ages 30 to 49.\nAt that time, a total of 15 cases of TTS had been reported among nearly 7 million vaccine doses administered. All of the cases occurred in women between the ages of 18 and 59, with a median age of 37 years. Symptoms developed between six and 15 days after vaccination.\n\nAs of Aug. 31, CDC officials said at the advisers’ meeting, about 3.8 cases of TTS were reported for every million doses of J&J vaccine administered, across all recipients. The rate was highest among women ages 30 to 39, at 10.6 per million doses.\n\nCDC officials also said that among those who develop TTS, the fatality rate was about 15%. The people who died deteriorated quickly after being admitted to the hospital, officials said.\n\nCDC officials said getting J&J’s vaccine was still superior to not getting vaccinated, but the balance between the benefits and risks for the messenger RNA vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna was superior to J&J’s. And the current supply of mRNA vaccines in the U.S. is adequate, unlike earlier in the year.\n\nA recommendation by the ACIP isn’t binding on vaccine providers or recipients, but it will carry significant weight because it has been rare for the committee to express a preference for one vaccine over another.\n\n\nSome committee members said that the J&J vaccine should remain available for people who aren’t able to take the mRNA vaccines.\n\nHealth officials say people with an allergy to ingredients in the mRNA vaccines, or who have had a severe allergic reaction to a dose of those vaccines, should not receive them.\n\nThe mRNA vaccines also carry a risk of causing heart-inflammation conditions including myocarditis, particularly among males under the age of 30. Yet health officials have said the benefits of preventing Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths outweigh the myocarditis risk.\n\nPenny Heaton, global therapeutic area head of vaccines at J&J, told committee members that the company has been monitoring the safety of the vaccine, including the TTS risk. The vaccine is a life-saving tool, she said, and the company is supplying hundreds of millions of doses around the world.\n\nPartly because of the safety concerns, J&J’s single-dose vaccine has been used much less than the two-dose vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer with its partner BioNTech SE.\n\nAbout 16.1 million people in the U.S. have received J&J’s vaccine, according to the CDC. If they don't, the market will price in a 0.50% interest rate hike in March 2022 because of a \"red hot labor market,\" Hartnett said, pointing to Thursday's jobless claims data hitting its lowest level since 1969.\nIf Hartnett's Fed rate hike expectations pan out, that would likely be a shock to Wall Street, with most market participants expecting the Fed to start with a 0.25% rate hike in the second half of 2022. \"The lead indicator (yield curve) all say 'Fed coming', but investment grade bonds and FAANG do not,\" Hartnett said.\nHartnett is referring to the mega-cap tech complex, which consists of five stocks driving 64% of the Nasdaq's 23% year-to-date gain. was detected ","content":"
(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected mutation continues its spread around the world.
\n
The infected individual was a traveler from South Africa, according to the CDC. The San Francisco resident was fully vaccinated, had mild symptoms that are improving, and has been self-quarantining since testing positive. All close contacts have been traced and have tested negative, according to the CDC.
\n
The infected person began traveling home on Nov. 21, landed the following day and felt symptoms on Nov. 25, California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a press briefing. Testing was done Nov. 28 and came back positive the next day. The patient wasn’t hospitalized, he said.
\n
“This individual is doing well,” Newsom said in the briefing, adding that the patient is expected to make a full recovery.
\n
Omicron, first detected in South Africa, has been found in locations from Australia to Germany and Canada. Its arrival had been widely expected in the U.S., and researchers are racing to understand the impact of the heavily mutated strain that features some changes that are absent in other major variants.
\n
Sheer Numbers
\n
Omicron’s mutations number about 30, suggesting the strain could evade antibodies produced by existing vaccines, while being equally or more transmissible than delta, the strain that currently dominates. But little is known for sure, as the variant is so new that scientists haven’t had a chance to complete their studies.
\n
Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s top pandemic adviser, said that he wasn’t aware of any other potential cases of the variant in the U.S. right now. Fauci said to his knowledge the infected person hadn’t received a booster dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
\n
Testing for the infection was done by a Color Health Inc. lab in San Francisco, according to an outside representative of the company. The strain was identified in less than 30 hours from sample collection. The sample was then turned over to the University of California, San Francisco lab of Charles Chiu for confirmatory sequencing.
\n
Chiu said his laboratory heard about the sample on Tuesday afternoon and had received it by 8 p.m. From there, they ran a quick molecular test looking for what’s known as spike-gene dropout, which suggested the sample was possibly omicron.
\n
Small Sequencer
\n
To confirm the finding, the lab sequenced the entire genome of the virus using a pocket-sized sequencing machine made by Oxford Nanopore Technologies PLC. Within five hours, they had confirmed the detection of omicron, and within eight, the entire genome had been decoded.
\n
“At 4 a.m. last night we were able to conclusively demonstrate that this was indeed an infection from the omicron variant,” he said in the press conference.
\n
“All of us have been working furiously for the last 24 hours,” said Grant Colfax, Director of Health for the City and County of San Francisco. “We knew omicron was going to be here. This is cause for concern but this is certainly not cause for panic.”
\n
The patient had earlier received a two doses of Moderna Inc.’s vaccine, but no booster, Colfax said. The city doesn’t plan any additional virus measures or restrictions because of the variant, he said. Likewise, Newsom said he didn’t see shutdowns in the immediate future.
\n
While epidemiologists had said the eventual confirmation of a U.S. case would be unsurprising, given the spread of the variant so far, the milestone carries an emotional punch. Early warnings of possible omicron risks have spooked markets, prompted the U.S. to tighten some travel rules and spurred other countries to shut their borders.
\n
“There’s no reason to panic--but we should remain vigilant,” Newsom said in a tweet. “That means get vaccinated. Get boosted. Wear a mask indoors.”
\n
Post-Thanksgiving Emergence
\n
The World Health Organization warned that the new variant could fuel a fresh surge in infections, though the global agency also said on Wednesday it believes that current vaccines would protect people infected with the variant from severe disease.
\n
The emergence of omicron in the U.S. followed last week’s Thanksgiving holiday, when air travel reached a pandemic high.
\n
South African researchers said omicron appears to be more transmissible than its predecessors but existing vaccines are still likely to offer good protection against severe illness and death. So far, doctors and researchers there have reported that most cases linked to the variant have been mild, but it’s becoming increasingly prevalent in Cape Town, South Africa’s second largest city.
\n
“It was like a tap being turned on from Thursday or Friday last week,” said Anthony Smith, a general practitioner in the suburb of Sea Point. “I’ve probably come across about 20 cases directly or indirectly.”
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
First U.S. Case of Omicron Variant Confirmed in California
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nFirst U.S. Case of Omicron Variant Confirmed in California\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-02 07:19 GMT+8 Bloomberg\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BK4533":"AQR资本管理(全球第二大对冲基金)","BK4568":"美国抗疫概念","BK4532":"文艺复兴科技持仓","MRNA":"Moderna, Inc.","BK4548":"巴美列捷福持仓","BK4551":"寇图资本持仓","BK4534":"瑞士信贷持仓","BK4139":"生物科技"},"source_url":"https://finance.yahoo.com/news/first-u-case-omicron-variant-191025376.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/5f26f4a48f9cb3e29be4d71d3ba8c038","article_id":"2188562523","content_text":"(Bloomberg) -- The first confirmed U.S. case of the omicron variant of the coronavirus was detected in California, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said, as the recently detected mutation continues its spread around the world.\nThe infected individual was a traveler from South Africa, according to the CDC. Indeed, today’s price action in HLBZ ","content":"
One of the fastest-moving stocks today is Helbiz(NASDAQ:HLBZ). Indeed, today’s price action in HLBZ stock has been incredible to see, with shares of this micro-mobility company skyrocketing more than 140% at the time of writing.
\n
This is yet another de-SPAC company that recently closed its merger on Aug. 13. Since then, shares went from the $10 IPO price level to the $6 per share level. However, today’s price action has driven shares of HLBZ stock to more than $25 per share, representing a 4-bagger from lows seen just a few weeks ago.
\n
Post-SPAC merger volatility has certainly been the norm of late. However, for Helbiz and its de-SPAC peers, most of this volatility has been to the downside. Let’s dive into what is driving HLBZ stock higher today.
\n
HLBZ Stock Surging on Media Rights Deal
\n
Most folks know of Helbiz as a global leader in the micro-mobility market. You know, scooters and other various forms of car-free transportation to get around big cities.
\n
However, Helbiz is also a company looking to make waves in the streaming and entertainment space. Via its subsidiary Helbiz Media, the company has announced today a key partnership that could spur a tremendous amount of growth from here.
\n
This partnership is between Helbiz Media and FOX Networks Group to broadcast the Italian Series B championship in the U.S. and Caribbean. Indeed, today’s price action in HLBZ stock has been incredible to see, with shares of this micro-mobility company skyrocketing more than 140% at the time of writing.\nThis is yet another de-SPAC company that recently closed its merger on Aug. 13. Since then, shares went from the $10 IPO price level to the $6 per share level. However, today’s price action has driven shares of HLBZ stock to more than $25 per share, representing a 4-bagger from lows seen just a few weeks ago.\nPost-SPAC merger volatility has certainly been the norm of late. However, for Helbiz and its de-SPAC peers, most of this volatility has been to the downside. Let’s dive into what is driving HLBZ stock higher today.\nHLBZ Stock Surging on Media Rights Deal\nMost folks know of Helbiz as a global leader in the micro-mobility market. You know, scooters and other various forms of car-free transportation to get around big cities.\nHowever, Helbiz is also a company looking to make waves in the streaming and entertainment space. Via its subsidiary Helbiz Media, the company has announced today a key partnership that could spur a tremendous amount of growth from here.\nThis partnership is between Helbiz Media and FOX Networks Group to broadcast the Italian Series B championship in the U.S. and Caribbean. Perhaps a smaller deal relative to the rest of the streaming space, this three-year contract could provide Helbiz with some nice momentum in a niche market for sports streaming.\nFor now, it appears investors like the way Helbiz’s management team is positioning the company. Whether or not this valuation can be maintained remains to be seen. However, today’s impressive upward spike in HLBZ stock is certainly worth watching.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":198,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":833285771,"gmtCreate":1629245463593,"gmtModify":1633686319506,"author":{"id":"3580638845558081","authorId":"3580638845558081","name":"在於我們是","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/400933d41d715fa2dc89a42f82e63f64","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580638845558081","authorIdStr":"3580638845558081"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like [Smile] ","listText":"Please like [Smile] ","text":"Please like [Smile]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":12,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/833285771","repostId":"2160880977","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":168,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":845011597,"gmtCreate":1636252036730,"gmtModify":1636252037232,"author":{"id":"3580638845558081","authorId":"3580638845558081","name":"在於我們是","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/400933d41d715fa2dc89a42f82e63f64","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580638845558081","authorIdStr":"3580638845558081"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like [Smile] ","listText":"Please like [Smile] ","text":"Please like [Smile]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/845011597","repostId":"2181074782","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":272,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":607892633,"gmtCreate":1639522481021,"gmtModify":1639522481371,"author":{"id":"3580638845558081","authorId":"3580638845558081","name":"在於我們是","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/400933d41d715fa2dc89a42f82e63f64","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580638845558081","authorIdStr":"3580638845558081"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like [Smile] ","listText":"Please like [Smile] ","text":"Please like [Smile]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":2,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/607892633","repostId":"2191784951","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1408,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":821630142,"gmtCreate":1633738425492,"gmtModify":1633738425869,"author":{"id":"3580638845558081","authorId":"3580638845558081","name":"在於我們是","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/400933d41d715fa2dc89a42f82e63f64","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580638845558081","authorIdStr":"3580638845558081"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like [Happy] ","listText":"Please like [Happy] ","text":"Please like [Happy]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/821630142","repostId":"1100565546","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1100565546","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1633734823,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1100565546?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-10-09 07:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"S&P 500 ends lower after U.S. September jobs miss","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1100565546","media":"Reuters","summary":" - The S&P 500 ended lower on Friday after data showed weaker jobs growth than expected in September, yet investors still expected the Federal Reserve to begin tapering asset purchases this year.Wall Street’s three main indexes were mixed for much of the session before losing ground toward the end. The Consumer Price Index showed pricesrising 5.4% on a year-over-year basisin September (the fastest reading since 2008).
\n
But Powell leaned again on the explanation of these pressures as “transitory,” pointing to pandemic-induced materials and labor shortages that have constrained supply chains globally.
\n
The Fed chief said those bottlenecks should persist into next year, stressing that if it appears that inflation will persist even after those COVID-related factors fade, the central bank can raise interest rates.
\n
Compared to messaging in the last Federal Open Market Committee meeting in September, the policy-setting arm of the central bank appears to be taking seriously the risk of persistent inflation. It tweaked its language in its policy statement to note that inflationary pressures are not “transitory” but “expected to be transitory.”
\n
Powell said the change was made “to show uncertainty around that.”
\n
Interest rates near zero
\n
In its policy announcement Wednesday, the FOMC unanimously voted to hold interest rates at near zero butbegin the process of tapering its asset purchases.
\n
Since the depths of the pandemic, the Fed has been buying about $120 billion per month in U.S. Treasuries and agency mortgage-backed securities to signal its support of the economy. The Consumer Price Index showed pricesrising 5.4% on a year-over-year basisin September (the fastest reading since 2008).\nBut Powell leaned again on the explanation of these pressures as “transitory,” pointing to pandemic-induced materials and labor shortages that have constrained supply chains globally.\nThe Fed chief said those bottlenecks should persist into next year, stressing that if it appears that inflation will persist even after those COVID-related factors fade, the central bank can raise interest rates.\nCompared to messaging in the last Federal Open Market Committee meeting in September, the policy-setting arm of the central bank appears to be taking seriously the risk of persistent inflation. It tweaked its language in its policy statement to note that inflationary pressures are not “transitory” but “expected to be transitory.”\nPowell said the change was made “to show uncertainty around that.”\nInterest rates near zero\nIn its policy announcement Wednesday, the FOMC unanimously voted to hold interest rates at near zero butbegin the process of tapering its asset purchases.\nSince the depths of the pandemic, the Fed has been buying about $120 billion per month in U.S. Treasuries and agency mortgage-backed securities to signal its support of the economy. But starting this month, the Fed will slow those aggregate purchases by $15 billion per month.\n\"We are prepared to speed up or slow down the pace of reductions in asset purchases, if it's warranted by changes in the economic outlook,” Powell told the press.\nBut the tapering program, which marks the first major step in the Fed unwinding its pandemic-era easy money policies, has revved up chatter about when the central bank could eventually tap into its primary tool of levering short-term interest rates.\nPowell made it clear that while it could deploy a rate hike to quell inflation, his focus will be on letting the labor market heal.\nThere are still over 5 million workers out of the labor force compared to pre-pandemic levels, which Powell remained optimistic about fixing. The challenge: jobs data as of latehave missed expectationsfor a more vigorous labor market recovery.\nPowell suggested his deference is to give workers and hiring firms more time to plug the shortfall.\n\"Ideally we would see further development of the labor market in a context where there isn't another COVID spike, and then we would be able to see how does participation react in that post-COVID world,” Powell said.\nThe next jobs report, covering the month of October, is due on Friday. The central bank’s next policy-setting announcement is scheduled to take place on Dec. 14 and 15.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":457,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":863313319,"gmtCreate":1632357988331,"gmtModify":1632800972072,"author":{"id":"3580638845558081","authorId":"3580638845558081","name":"在於我們是","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/400933d41d715fa2dc89a42f82e63f64","crmLevel":3,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3580638845558081","authorIdStr":"3580638845558081"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please like [Smile] ","listText":"Please like [Smile] ","text":"Please like [Smile]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/863313319","repostId":"2169650271","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":210,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
