Relatively few new economic data reports or corporate earnings results are scheduled for release.

The FOMC's meeting minutes, due out Wednesday afternoon, will elucidate members' thinking from their March meeting. At the conclusion of that meeting, the central bank's median forecast for economic growth was sharply upwardly revised, reflecting improving growth trends as the trajectory of new COVID-19 infections improved and vaccinations broadened out. The central bank said it expects real GDP to grow 6.5% this year, versus the 4.2% rate it anticipated in December. The Fed also said it sees the unemployment rate improving to 4.5% by year-end before returning to its pre-pandemic level of 3.5% by 2023.

Despite these improving projections, the Fed still telegraphed that interest rates would likely remain on hold at current near-zero levels through 2023, with the central bank maintaining its ultra-accommodative monetary policy posturing despite a quicker-than-previously-expected economic recovery. Market participants have been wary of this message, with the Fed suggesting a stubborn tilt toward easy monetary policy even in the face of rising inflation. The Fed's latest forecast showed the median member believed core inflation would rise to 2.4% this year, hitting and exceeding the Fed's 2% target two years earlier than previously anticipated.

Fed Chair Powell said in his mid-March press conference that inflation would need to be \"on track to exceed 2% moderately for some time\" in order for the Fed to consider its inflation goal met and allow for liftoff on rates. However, that assertion has left some room for interpretation by market participants, leading many to speculate the Fed may be pushed to adjust policy sooner than it has recently telegraphed.

'Forecast disagreement'

According to a recent survey from Deustche Bank, \"The current gap between the market and the Fed is mostly about forecast disagreement. In particular, survey respondents expect that core PCE in the 2.2%-2.3% range in 2022 and 2023 will beget a more hawkish Fed response,\" Deutsche Bank economist Matthew Luzzetti wrote in a note. \"While we learned at the FOMC meeting that 2.1% core PCE [personal consumption expenditures] inflation is not sufficiently high to trigger liftoff, it is still unclear whether inflation rates in the 2.2%-2.3% range — as expected by our survey and market pricing — would be high enough to get the Fed to tighten. This ambiguity is one drawback of the Fed's flexible average inflation targeting (FAIT) approach which leaves key parameters undefined.\"

\"If the Fed were to clearly signal that core PCE inflation in the 2.2%-2.3% range for a year or two is consistent with their view of FAIT and would not trigger a tightening of monetary policy, they could impact market pricing,\" he added. \"Conversely, if the FOMC believes they would raise rates in response to these inflation realizations, then the market is currently pricing an appropriate reaction function and it will take some time for a verdict on whether the Fed or market is correct about the persistence of this inflation shock.\"

WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 29: Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell speaks during a news conference after a Federal Open Market Committee meeting on January 29, 2020 in Washington, DC. Chairman Powell announced that the Federal Reserve will not be adjusting interest rates. (Photo by Samuel Corum/Getty Images)Samuel Corum via Getty Images

But while the jury appears to be out among market participants when it comes to the timing of the next rate hike, many agree that the first step toward tightening by the Federal Reserve will likely occur in their crisis-era asset purchase program. Fed Chair Powell said that the central bank would be looking for \"substantial further progress\" — and specifically \"actual progress\" in the data and not \"forecast progress\" — toward the Fed's employment and inflation goals before considering tapering.

Still, with the latest batch of March economic data exceeding estimates, the Fed may soon begin offering up firmer guidance around its plan for tapering the $120 billion per-month asset purchase program, which was first put into place at the start of the pandemic last year.

\"Financial conditions should remain quite accommodative for a while, and in our view risks an overshoot,\" Rich Rieder, BlackRock chief investment officer, said in a note. \"We think that the Fed should be able to taper asset purchases sooner than many expect and perhaps by the end of the year, or early next year, which suggests to us that communicating its plan could come as early as the June meeting.\"

While the forthcoming meeting minutes will not take into account FOMC members' appraisal of the latest batch of economic data, it will offer market participants a sense of whether some members were inclined to look past the first signs of a faster-than-expected economic recovery in dictating the direction of monetary policy.

That said, Fed Chair Powell's public remarks this coming Thursday will offer a more timely view of the central bank's policy thinking. Powell will be speaking at an International Monetary Fund panel on the global economy Thursday afternoon.

The discussion will come about a week after the Labor Department's March jobs report, which showed a much better than expected gain of 916,000 non-farm payrolls and a dip in the unemployment rate to 6.0%. Plus, last week's Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing purchasing managers' index unexpectedly jumped to a 37-year high, with some survey participants already citing a rise in commodity prices and a supply and demand mismatch that could exacerbate upward price pressures. Market participants will eye Powell's address to see whether or not these prints shift the needle in the Fed's monetary policy projections.

\"We expect that as the data come in, the volatility in Fed views will become more pronounced over coming months,\" RBC Capital Markets economists wrote in a note last week.

Economic calendar

Monday: Markit U.S. Services PMI, March Final (60.2 expected, 60.0 in prior print); Relatively few new economic data reports or corporate earnings results are scheduled for release. The Fed also said it sees the unemployment rate improving to 4.5% by year-end before returning to its pre-pandemic level of 3.5% by 2023.Despite these improving projections, the Fed still telegraphed that interest rates would likely remain on hold at current near-zero levels through 2023, with the central bank maintaining its ultra-accommodative monetary policy posturing despite a quicker-than-previously-expected economic recovery. Market participants have been wary of this message, with the Fed suggesting a stubborn tilt toward easy monetary policy even in the face of rising inflation. The Fed's latest forecast showed the median member believed core inflation would rise to 2.4% this year, hitting and exceeding the Fed's 2% target two years earlier than previously anticipated.Fed Chair Powell said in his mid-March press conference that inflation would need to be \"on track to exceed 2% moderately for some time\" in order for the Fed to consider its inflation goal met and allow for liftoff on rates. However, that assertion has left some room for interpretation by market participants, leading many to speculate the Fed may be pushed to adjust policy sooner than it has recently telegraphed.'Forecast disagreement'According to a recent survey from Deustche Bank, \"The current gap between the market and the Fed is mostly about forecast disagreement. This ambiguity is one drawback of the Fed's flexible average inflation targeting (FAIT) approach which leaves key parameters undefined.\"\"If the Fed were to clearly signal that core PCE inflation in the 2.2%-2.3% range for a year or two is consistent with their view of FAIT and would not trigger a tightening of monetary policy, they could impact market pricing,\" he added. \"Conversely, if the FOMC believes they would raise rates in response to these inflation realizations, then the market is currently pricing an appropriate reaction function and it will take some time for a verdict on whether the Fed or market is correct about the persistence of this inflation shock.\"WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 29: Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell speaks during a news conference after a Federal Open Market Committee meeting on January 29, 2020 in Washington, DC. Chairman Powell announced that the Federal Reserve will not be adjusting interest rates. (Photo by Samuel Corum/Getty Images)Samuel Corum via Getty ImagesBut while the jury appears to be out among market participants when it comes to the timing of the next rate hike, many agree that the first step toward tightening by the Federal Reserve will likely occur in their crisis-era asset purchase program. Fed Chair Powell said that the central bank would be looking for \"substantial further progress\" — and specifically \"actual progress\" in the data and not \"forecast progress\" — toward the Fed's employment and inflation goals before considering tapering.Still, with the latest batch of March economic data exceeding estimates, the Fed may soon begin offering up firmer guidance around its plan for tapering the $120 billion per-month asset purchase program, which was first put into place at the start of the pandemic last year.\"Financial conditions should remain quite accommodative for a while, and in our view risks an overshoot,\" Rich Rieder, BlackRock chief investment officer, said in a note. \"We think that the Fed should be able to taper asset purchases sooner than many expect and perhaps by the end of the year, or early next year, which suggests to us that communicating its plan could come as early as the June meeting.\"While the forthcoming meeting minutes will not take into account FOMC members' appraisal of the latest batch of economic data, it will offer market participants a sense of whether some members were inclined to look past the first signs of a faster-than-expected economic recovery in dictating the direction of monetary policy. Market participants will eye Powell's address to see whether or not these prints shift the needle in the Fed's monetary policy projections.\"We expect that as the data come in, the volatility in Fed views will become more pronounced over coming months,\" RBC Capital Markets economists wrote in a note last week.Economic calendarMonday: Markit U.S. Services PMI, March Final (60.2 expected, 60.0 in prior print); Markit U.S. Composite PMI, March Final (59.1 in prior print); ISM Services Index, March (58.7 expected, 55.3 in February); Factory Orders, February (-0.5% expected, 2.6% in January); Durable Goods Orders, February Final (-1.1% expected, -1.1% in prior print); Durable Goods Orders excluding transportation, February final (-0.9% expected, -0.9% in prior print); Non-defense capital goods orders excluding aircraft, February final (-0.8% in prior print); Non-defense capital goods shipments excluding aircraft, February final (-1.0% in prior print)Tuesday: JOLTS Job Openings, February (6.944 million expected, 6.917 million in prior print)Wednesday: MBA Mortgage Applications, week ended April 2 (-2.2% during prior week); Trade Balance, February (-$70.5 billion expected, -$68.2 billion in January); Consumer credit, February ($2.800 billion expected, -$1.315 billion in January) FOMC Meeting Minutes, March MeetingThursday: Initial jobless claims, week ended April 3 (690,000 expected, 719,000 during prior week); Continuing claims, week ended March 27 (3.794 million during prior week)Friday: Producer Price Index, month-over-month, March (0.5% expected, 0.5% in February); Producer Price Index excluding food and energy, month-over-month, March (0.2% expected, 0.2% in February); Producer Price Index, year-over-year, March (3.8% expected, 2.5% in February); Producer Price Index excluding food and energy year-over-year, March (2.7% expected, 2.5% in February); Wholesale inventories, month-over-month, February final (0.5% expected, 0.5% in prior print)Earnings calendarMonday: N/ATuesday: N/AWednesday: N/AThursday: Constellation Brands (STZ) before market openFriday: N/A","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1126,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":349309002,"gmtCreate":1617534137006,"gmtModify":1634520617466,"author":{"id":"3574750085628633","authorId":"3574750085628633","name":"needtoberich","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/13ffed362505ee15ca732ec69ae335a5","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574750085628633","authorIdStr":"3574750085628633"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[吃瓜] ","listText":"[吃瓜] ","text":"[吃瓜]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/349309002","repostId":"1188150614","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1188150614","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1617366389,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1188150614?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-04-02 20:26","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Beaten-Down Stocks That Could Double Your Money","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1188150614","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Market rotation malaise has infected many investors. Since then, though, thehealthcare stockhas fallen more than 35%.
\n
Part of the problem was the aforementioned general sell-off of growth stocks. However, DermTech also provided disappointing guidance in its fourth-quarter update. The company expects first-quarter assay revenue of between $1.6 million and $1.9 million compared to Q4 assay revenue of $1.6 million.
\n
DermTech still faces some COVID-19 headwinds in reaching out to physicians. The company's long-term growth prospects remain bright, though. DermTech continues to pick up commercial payer reimbursement for its first product, Pigmented Lesion Assay (PLA). It expects to launch an at-home genomics test that identifies ultraviolet ray damage and skin cancer risk next year.
\n
The total addressable U.S. market that DermTech is targeting for all types of skin cancer is around $10 billion. With the company's market cap currently below $1.5 billion, DermTech should only have to capture a tiny sliver of this market to deliver huge returns for investors.
\n
Gores Holdings VI
\n
Special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) stocks were wildly popular not long ago. That's changed quite a bit. Gores Holdings VI(NASDAQ:GHVI)serves as a great example: The SPAC's shares skyrocketed more than 120% year to date by mid-February but are now down over 40% from those highs.
\n
Gores Holdings VI and spatial data company Matterport announced on Feb. 8 that they plan to merge in a deal that will take Matterport public at an equity value of around $2.9 billion. But Matterport should be able to grow much larger than that relatively quickly.
\n
Matterport pioneered the spatial data market a decade ago. The company's technology can create a 3D \"digital twin\" of any physical space. Consulting firmAccenturerecently picked digital twin technology asone of its top five tech trends of 2021.
\n
The company already has over 250,000 customers, including 13% of the Fortune 1000. However, less than 1% of the more than 4 billion buildings across the world are currently digitized. This represents a $240 billion opportunity for Matterport. The company expects to nearly double its revenue in 2022 with growth accelerating in subsequent years.
\n
Skillz
\n
Skillz(NYSE:SKLZ)stands as the biggest loser of these three beaten-down stocks. Skillz is especially making inroads in converting users to paying customers.
\n
The mobile gaming market totaled $86 billion last year and continues to grow rapidly. When the share price comes back to reality, you'll be a winner. Wall Street has the habit of kicking a stock when it's down, as negative sentiment surrounding a particular name can spell doom for shareholders.

For those seeking value, these moments present an opportunity. Here, we'll look at three value stocks that have seen better days, but also have a good chance at rebounding.

Gilead Sciences

Over the past five years,Gilead Sciences(NASDAQ:GILD)has managed to lose about 40% of its value on the open market, and has vastly underperformed apassively held index fundover the same period (as shown below). As a market leader in the oncology, HIV, and hepatitis C drug markets, respectively, the company produces a suite of antivirals for typically hard-to-treat illnesses. While Gilead was -- and is -- front-and-center during the pandemic in its production of Veklury (more commonly known as remdesivir), it is not one of the major vaccine producers.

Perhaps the better news for those considering a Gilead investment is that the company is fundamentally quite strong. It trades at 9 times earnings, which is comparably cheap across the large-cap biotech sector. It projects a strong 2021, releasing guidance for revenue of $25 billion and EPS in the $7 range .

Put simply, the company trades at an attractive price relative to the earnings it generates, and the hope is that patients start treatment for other viral and chronic (non-COVID) illnesses now that the pandemic has waned a bit in the early part of the year.

DISH Network

Despite a stagnant stock price --DISH Network(NASDAQ:DISH)has fallen from just under $50 per share to around $35 today -- there is reason to believe a comeback is in the works. The stock currently trades at 11 times earnings, relatively cheap based on today's standards, and posted strong revenue growth in 2020, up about 40% from 2019.

DISH has engaged in a few creative partnerships; perhaps the most promising of the bunchis a pact with DraftKings, which seeks to offer sports betting from DISH set-top boxes. When the share price comes back to reality, you'll be a winner. Wall Street has the habit of kicking a stock when it's down, as negative sentiment surrounding a particular name can spell doom for shareholders. For those seeking value, these moments present an opportunity. Here, we'll look at three value stocks that have seen better days, but also have a good chance at rebounding.Gilead SciencesOver the past five years,Gilead Sciences(NASDAQ:GILD)has managed to lose about 40% of its value on the open market, and has vastly underperformed apassively held index fundover the same period (as shown below). As a market leader in the oncology, HIV, and hepatitis C drug markets, respectively, the company produces a suite of antivirals for typically hard-to-treat illnesses. While Gilead was -- and is -- front-and-center during the pandemic in its production of Veklury (more commonly known as remdesivir), it is not one of the major vaccine producers.Perhaps the better news for those considering a Gilead investment is that the company is fundamentally quite strong. It trades at 9 times earnings, which is comparably cheap across the large-cap biotech sector. It projects a strong 2021, releasing guidance for revenue of $25 billion and EPS in the $7 range .Put simply, the company trades at an attractive price relative to the earnings it generates, and the hope is that patients start treatment for other viral and chronic (non-COVID) illnesses now that the pandemic has waned a bit in the early part of the year.DISH NetworkDespite a stagnant stock price --DISH Network(NASDAQ:DISH)has fallen from just under $50 per share to around $35 today -- there is reason to believe a comeback is in the works. The stock currently trades at 11 times earnings, relatively cheap based on today's standards, and posted strong revenue growth in 2020, up about 40% from 2019.DISH has engaged in a few creative partnerships; perhaps the most promising of the bunchis a pact with DraftKings, which seeks to offer sports betting from DISH set-top boxes. The underlying current here is that DISH Network has shown an ability to think outside the box, which is reflected in itsprofitability measures. It is a buy at its current price, and has an opportunity to stage a comeback in the coming years.Tupperware BrandsWhile not the most high-flying name you've ever heard,Tupperware Brands(NYSE:TUP)simply runs a sustainably profitable business. While companies likeRoblox,Spotify,SlackandPalantir previously went public through direct listings on the New York Stock Exchange, Coinbase will be the Nasdaq’s first major direct listing.\nThe company has said it plans to register nearly 115 million shares of Class A common stock, which will trade under ticker symbol COIN. The U.S. manufacturing world is more than eager to move beyond the pandemic era, as witnessed in the Institute for Supply Management data from March 1 that found manufacturing activity in February on the rise, marking the ninth straight consecutive month of sector gains.
\n
Still, the economic residue from the pandemic needs to be considered. Caterpillar posted fourth-quarter revenue of $11.2 billion, a 15% decrease compared with $13.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2019.
\n
The quarter's profit per share of $1.42 was down from $1.97 one year earlier.
\n
Chairman and CEO Donald James Umpleby is optimistic on this year, declaring that the company has \"been making investments over the last few years in our digital capabilities, in many of our processes and our models, and we're going to work hard to leverage those connected assets and those investments that we've made to grow services going forward, and we think that represents just an excellent opportunity for future profitable growth over the next few years.\"
\n
Caterpillar closed Monday at $230.22, slightly under its 52-week high of $237.78 and distant from its 52-week low of $100.22.
\n
Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd.CP 1.5%: Many infrastructure projects will rely on rail transportation for material shipments, and Canadian Pacific is in a great way to move materials.
\n
On March 21, the company announced it was buyingKansas City SouthernKSU 1.54%in a $25-billion transaction that creates a combined rail network connecting points throughout Canada and Mexico and points in the Midwest, Northeast and South Central U.S. This is Canadian Pacific's second acquisition within a year. Last June, it completed its today completed acquisition of the Central Maine & Quebec Railway U.S. Inc.
\n
\"We delivered fourth quarter revenues of C$2 billion, which was an all-time quarterly record, operating ratio of 53.9%, and adjusted EPS growth of 6%. An industry leading performance for the year, total revenues were down only 1%. We produced an all-time record operating ratio of 57.1%, operating income was up 6% to C$3.3 billion, which enabled a record adjusted EPS of C$17.67, an increase of 7% versus last year, truly an outstanding achievement across the board,\" President and CEO Keith Creek said during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call in January.
\n
Canadian Pacific closed Monday at $364.25, closer to its 52-week high of $385.87 and distant from its 52-week low of $205.26.
\n
Nucor CorporationNUE 2.1%– This Charlotte, North Carolina-headquartered company holds the distinction of being the nation's largest steel producer, the largest \"mini-mill\" steelmaker and the largest scrap recycler. Any major infrastructure projects planned for the near-future will certainly have Nucor's involvement.
\n
To date, 2021 has been a very good year for Nucor. The stock has gained approximately 37% since New Year's Day, and on March 16 the company announced guidance for its first quarter ending April 3, with expected earnings in the range of $3 to $3.10 per diluted share, which would be the highest quarterly earnings in Nucor history.
\n
\"March is expected to be the strongest month of the quarter,\" the company said in a statement. \"Margins have expanded since the beginning of the year, a trend we expect to continue into the second quarter. We believe earnings in the second quarter of 2021 will likely set a new record for quarterly earnings.\"
\n
Nucor closed Monday at $78.75, closer to its 52-week high $82.76 and far from its 52-week low of $32.16.
\n
U.S. Concrete Inc.USCR 8.42%: What's an infrastructure project without concrete, and what is the concrete sector without this Texas-based firm? The U.S. manufacturing world is more than eager to move beyond the pandemic era, as witnessed in the Institute for Supply Management data from March 1 that found manufacturing activity in February on the rise, marking the ninth straight consecutive month of sector gains.\nStill, the economic residue from the pandemic needs to be considered. Caterpillar posted fourth-quarter revenue of $11.2 billion, a 15% decrease compared with $13.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2019.\nThe quarter's profit per share of $1.42 was down from $1.97 one year earlier.\nChairman and CEO Donald James Umpleby is optimistic on this year, declaring that the company has \"been making investments over the last few years in our digital capabilities, in many of our processes and our models, and we're going to work hard to leverage those connected assets and those investments that we've made to grow services going forward, and we think that represents just an excellent opportunity for future profitable growth over the next few years.\"\nCaterpillar closed Monday at $230.22, slightly under its 52-week high of $237.78 and distant from its 52-week low of $100.22.\nCanadian Pacific Railway Ltd.CP 1.5%: Many infrastructure projects will rely on rail transportation for material shipments, and Canadian Pacific is in a great way to move materials.\nOn March 21, the company announced it was buyingKansas City SouthernKSU 1.54%in a $25-billion transaction that creates a combined rail network connecting points throughout Canada and Mexico and points in the Midwest, Northeast and South Central U.S. This is Canadian Pacific's second acquisition within a year. Last June, it completed its today completed acquisition of the Central Maine & Quebec Railway U.S. Inc.\n\"We delivered fourth quarter revenues of C$2 billion, which was an all-time quarterly record, operating ratio of 53.9%, and adjusted EPS growth of 6%. An industry leading performance for the year, total revenues were down only 1%. We produced an all-time record operating ratio of 57.1%, operating income was up 6% to C$3.3 billion, which enabled a record adjusted EPS of C$17.67, an increase of 7% versus last year, truly an outstanding achievement across the board,\" President and CEO Keith Creek said during the company's fourth-quarter earnings call in January.\nCanadian Pacific closed Monday at $364.25, closer to its 52-week high of $385.87 and distant from its 52-week low of $205.26.\nNucor CorporationNUE 2.1%– This Charlotte, North Carolina-headquartered company holds the distinction of being the nation's largest steel producer, the largest \"mini-mill\" steelmaker and the largest scrap recycler. Any major infrastructure projects planned for the near-future will certainly have Nucor's involvement.\nTo date, 2021 has been a very good year for Nucor. The stock has gained approximately 37% since New Year's Day, and on March 16 the company announced guidance for its first quarter ending April 3, with expected earnings in the range of $3 to $3.10 per diluted share, which would be the highest quarterly earnings in Nucor history.\n\"March is expected to be the strongest month of the quarter,\" the company said in a statement. \"Margins have expanded since the beginning of the year, a trend we expect to continue into the second quarter. We believe earnings in the second quarter of 2021 will likely set a new record for quarterly earnings.\"\nNucor closed Monday at $78.75, closer to its 52-week high $82.76 and far from its 52-week low of $32.16.\nU.S. Concrete Inc.USCR 8.42%: What's an infrastructure project without concrete, and what is the concrete sector without this Texas-based firm? Last year, the company sold approximately 8.2 million cubic yards of ready-mixed concrete and approximately 12.6 million tons of aggregates.\nWhile the pandemic's tumult still resonated with U.S. Concrete — its fourth quarter revenue of $334 million was down 9.43% year-over-year, which missed the estimate of $352,880,000 — it nonetheless continued to show resilience.\nIts earnings per share increased 17.02% year-over-year to 55 cents, which beat the estimate of 26 cents.\nCEO Ronnie Pruitt predicted a strong second half in 2021 \"led by robust residential activity across all of our markets, complemented by heavy industrial commercial projects, including warehouses, data centers, and other commercial work that supports the development of new neighborhoods. Our key markets all expect strong and resilient activity for infrastructure, including freeways, roads and streets, either with or without the federal infrastructure bill.\"\nU.S. Concrete closed Monday at $66.36, closer to its 52-week high of $71.19 and far from its 52-week low of $13.66.\nPhoto by Daniele Longo/Pixabay.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":281,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":355420743,"gmtCreate":1617097106182,"gmtModify":1634522684868,"author":{"id":"3574750085628633","authorId":"3574750085628633","name":"needtoberich","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/13ffed362505ee15ca732ec69ae335a5","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574750085628633","authorIdStr":"3574750085628633"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","listText":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","text":"Great ariticle, would you like to share it?","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/355420743","repostId":"1104238534","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":433,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":352704137,"gmtCreate":1617000864229,"gmtModify":1634523209102,"author":{"id":"3574750085628633","authorId":"3574750085628633","name":"needtoberich","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/13ffed362505ee15ca732ec69ae335a5","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3574750085628633","authorIdStr":"3574750085628633"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"time to buy asian stocks? The Dow crashed nearly 3,000 points— a stunning 13% — a year ago today.
\n
Flash forward 12 months and the health crisis is not over, but investors are increasingly confident it soonwill be.
\n
For the first time since February 2020, Covid-19 is no longer the No. 1 fear among portfolio managers surveyed by Bank of America, the bank said Tuesday.
\n
If anything, experienced investors are now concerned that the economy could recover so rapidly that it overheats.
\n
Inflation is now the top risk cited by portfolio managers polled by Bank of America. The second most common concern is taper tantrums, which occur when markets freak out over surging bond yields.
\n
The findings underscore how drastically the situation has changed during the past year. Confidence is growing because of the rollout of vaccines, easing health safety restrictions and unprecedented support from the federal government.
\n
\"Investor sentiment [is] unambiguously bullish,\" Bank of America strategists wrote in the Tuesday report.
\n
US stocks recovered swiftly from the pandemic. The Dow bottomed at 18,592 on March 23. The index is up a staggering 77% since then. The Nasdaq has doubled over that span.
\n
Hottest economy in decades
\n
Economists are also very optimistic, especially because Uncle Sam is providing much more support for the economy than many thought was likely just a few months ago. Last week, Congress passed President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion American Rescue Package.
\n
Goldman Sachs is now calling for the US economy to register China-like GDP growth of 7% on a full-year basis in 2021. That would be the fastest pace for the United States since 1984. And Goldman Sachs expects the US economy will be 8% larger at the end of 2021, compared with the end of last year. By that measure, it would be the fastest GDP growth since 1965.
\n
Almost half (48%) of fund managers polled by Bank of America now expect a V-shaped recovery, up from just 10% who predicted that in May 2020.
\n
A record 91% of sophisticated investors expect a stronger economy, surpassing the confidence signaled after the Trump tax cuts were passed in late 2017 and during the early stages of the recovery from the Great Recession.
\n
Inflation fears surge. But are they overdone?
\n
But all of this optimism — on top of unprecedented stimulus from Congress and the Fed — is making some on Wall Street concerned that the economy could overheat.
\n
The big fear is that resurgent inflation causes the Federal Reserve to rapidly raise interest rates, short-circuiting the economic recovery and the market boom. That's what happened in the 1970s and early 1980s when the Paul Volcker-led central bank tamed inflation with aggressive interest rate hikes.
\n
A record 93% of fund managers expect higher global inflation over the next 12 months, according to Bank of America. That's up from 85% who said that in February.
\n
However, US officials have pushed back against inflation fears. Over the weekend, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said inflation may move higher, but only temporarily.
\n
\"To get a sustained high inflation like we had in the 1970s, I absolutely don't expect that,\"Yellen told ABC.
\n
Ed Yardeni, president of investment advisory Yardeni Research, isn't overly worried about runaway inflation because about 10 million US workers are still unemployed due to the pandemic.
\n
\"A 1970s-style wage-price spiral now is unlikely, in our opinion, notwithstanding the fiscal and monetary excesses of our government,\" Yardeni wrote in a note to clients Tuesday.
\n
The tipping point for bond yields
\n
A related risk is a repeat of the 2013 taper tantrum, when Treasury yields spiked after the Fed signaled it would gradually slow bond purchases as the economy recovered. Higher Treasury rates could make stocks look less attractive by comparison.
\n
After crashing to 0.3% last spring, the 10-year Treasury rate recently climbed to 1.6%. The spike in yields unsettled investors, driving US stocks sharply lower before they rebounded.
\n
So how high would yields have to climb to derail the bull market?
\n
Bank of America said 2% on the 10-year Treasury \"could be the level of reckoning for stocks.\" Almost half of the fund managers surveyed said 2% yields would cause a 10% correction in stocks. Similarly, about half of the investors indicated a 10-year Treasury rate of 2% or 2.5% would make bonds attractive relative to stocks.
\n
Recent action in financial markets is also raising concern about bubble-like behavior. Investors are plowing vast sums of cash into shell companies known as SPACs. IPOs have skyrocketed on their first day of trading. And an army of traders on Reddit was able to catapult shares of GameStop(GME),AMC(AMC) and other companies to untenable highs.
\n
Yet professional investors don't see a bubble, at least not yet. Just 15% of investors think the US stock market is in a bubble, according to the Bank of America survey. In 2021, the pandem","content":"
Last year, uncertainties surrounding the coronavirus whipsawed the stock market. In 2021, the pandemic seems to have taken a back seat on Wall Street to a new phenomenon:the Reddit frenzy.
\n
In its simplest form, the Reddit frenzy involves retail investors -- mostly young and/or novice investors -- banding together to buy shares and out-of-the-money call options on heavily short-sold stocks. Short-sellers are investors who make money when stock prices decline. In many instances, institutional investors and hedge funds (i.e., the perceived-to-be \"big money\") are the biggest short-sellers.
\n
These Reddit traders have purchased stock and used leverage to effect a short squeeze in dozens of companies since mid-January. Since short-selling losses are potentially unlimited, ashort squeezecan send pessimists scurrying for the exit at the same time, which can exacerbate a runaway move to the upside in a heavily short-sold stock.
\n
AMC Entertainment is \"dramatically overvalued\"
\n
AlthoughGameStop is the best-known Reddit play, its popular sidekick would certainly have to be movie theater operatorAMC Entertainment(NYSE:AMC). Shares of AMC are higher by 557% on a year-to-date basis, through this past weekend.
\n
But according to one analyst,AMC houses a lot of riskand could be in for a bumpy ride.
\n
Two weeks ago, equity analyst Rich Greenfield, who covers media and technology companies for LightShed Partners, initiated coverage on AMC Entertainment with a sell rating. Although sell ratings are fairly uncommon on Wall Street, it's Greenfield's 12-month price target that really stands out: $0.01. You're reading that correctly:One cent!
\n
Greenfield's thesis as to why AMC will lose nearly 100% of its value over the next year hits on a number of points. To begin with, he believes that AMC is over-levered and its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) estimates are too rosy. Greenfield notes that the company is valued at 8 times debt-to-EBITDA, and believes it's unlikely the company will surpass $600 million in adjusted EBITDA in 2022. With little to no free cash flow, he doesn't believe AMC will be able to service its growing debt load.
\n
Furthermore, Greenfield is skeptical about AMC's audience returning anytime soon. He notes that pandemic fears may persist and keep people away from theaters. Greenfield points to increased streaming usage, as well, as reason why the company could struggle. In other words, consumers could opt to stay home to watch select new releases, or the exclusivity window for theater operators could notably shrink.
\n
Could AMC really fall 99.9% over the next year?
\n
The $64,000 question is: Could AMC's stock really become worthless within the next 12 months?
\n
As much as Iview bankruptcy as a legitimate possibility for AMCand agree with much of Greenfield's analysis, it's unlikely that AMC reaches this price target within the next 12 months. The reason is simple: AMC has the power to sell common stock and potentially even issue more debt capital to raise money, should the need arise. Greenfield's price target only comes into play if AMC files for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, which would likely wipe out retail investors.
\n
However, I wouldn't discount the possibility of $0.01 being a realistic price target within the next two years for a number of reasons.
\n
To start with, AMC recently claimed to have more than $1 billion in cash on hand. This comes after issuing close to 165 million shares and boosting its debt capital by over $400 million. But Wall Street's consensus loss estimate for 2021 and 2022 would result in an aggregate net loss of around $1.75 billion. Put simply, AMC doesn't have enough cash to survive the losses that Wall Street is expecting over the next two years.
\n
It's also unclear when society will return to normal. Even though AMC is planning to have 99% of its theaters open by March 26, the vast majority of these locations will have ongoing restrictions, such as limited capacity. Without a return to normal capacity, AMCcould struggle to draw crowdsand attach high-margin concessions sales that are its bread and butter.
\n
While there's no doubt an open theater at 50% capacity is better than a closed theater, the pandemic hasn't gone away. New variants have spread to various locales in the U.S., and a sizable percentage of the population in various surveys has shown little or no interest in getting the vaccine. In short, reaching herd immunity could be pushed down the road, which would be devastating for a company like AMC, which is hanging on by a thread.
\n
But possibly themost-damning catalyst for AMC is the rise of streamingthat Greenfield alluded to. This year,AT&T subsidiary WarnerMedia is releasing all of its new movies on HBO Max the same day they'll hit theaters.Walt Disney is doing something similar with a handful of movies on its Disney+ streaming service. Either consumers will choose to stay home, or the exclusivity period for movie operators will shorten considerably. The landscape is changing for AMC, and not for the better.
\n
In case you need one more reason to be skeptical of AMC, how about CEO Adam Aron having his compensation package more than double to $20.9 million from $9.6 million in 2020. Aron received ahefty bonusand stock award for his efforts to keep AMC afloat, which essentially amounted to issuing stock and debt like it was going out of the style.
\n
AMC is a fundamental dumpster fire that's being kept afloat by the emotions of retail investors. That would require delivering roughly 60 million doses over the next three weeks.\n\"Those have already been manufactured\" and are currently being tested for quality, he said.\n\"Unless a batch (of vaccine) fails, we will be able to provide them.
