\n
The three major indexes spent much of the day in negative territory as rising U.S. Treasury yields pressured market-leading tech stocks, and the rising dollar weighed on exporters.
\n
Amazon.com Inc, buoyed by solid online sales in the Commerce Department’s report, helped push the Nasdaq into positive territory.
\n
“Looking at today, clearly we had positive COVID Delta variant, evidence of resilience in the consumer, who contributes about 70% to U.S. economic growth.
\n
“Once again, it shows the U.S. consumer continues to spend and continues to help this economy grow,” Detrick said.
\n
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 63.07 points, or 0.18%, to 34,751.32; the S&P 500 lost 6.95 points, or 0.16%, at 4,473.75; and the Nasdaq Composite The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 55.20 points, or 0.2%, to 33,745.40, also falling from a record high. Intel was the biggest decliner in the blue-chip Dow, dropping more than 4%. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.4% to 13,850.00.Wall Street has been relatively quiet with the S&P 500 moving within 1% for five sessions in a row. Market volatility has declined to pre-pandemic levels amid rising reopening optimism. The Cboe Volatility Index, AKA the VIX or the market’s fear gauge, has traded below 18 for the past four days, a level unseen since February 2020.Shares of Nuance Communications jumped nearly 16% after Microsoft announced it will buy the speech recognition company in a $16 billion deal. The Nuance acquisition represents Microsoft’s largest acquisition since it bought LinkedIn for more than $26 billion in 2016.Nvidia jumped 5.6% after the chip giant said it first quarter revenue for fiscal 2022 is tracking above its previously provided outlook and that it expects demand to continue to exceed supply for much of this year.Nvidia plans new chip to compete with intel in data-center market. The weakness in reopening plays weighed on the overall market with shares of Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Line off more than 4% each. United Airlines fell 3.9% after the carrier said its first-quarter revenue is expected to fall 66% compared with the same period in 2019. The new guidance fell near the top of the range between 65% and 70% that the company had previously forecast.“Amid new highs it’s not surprising for the market to be moving somewhat in a holding pattern of late,” said Chris Larkin, managing director of trading and investing product at E-Trade. “All eyes will likely be on the CPI read tomorrow for a benchmark on where we stand on the inflation front. And of course we’re ushering in earnings season which could be a catalyst for market moves over the next few weeks.”The first-quarter earnings reporting season begins this week, with expectations set for broadly positive news and an uptrend for U.S. equities thanks to a recovering economy. Many of the nation’s largest banks, including Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase will this week report results for the three months ended March 31.This week is also packed with Federal Reserve speeches and key economic data including a hotly anticipated inflation readingTuesday, when the U.S. consumer price index is released. Economists polled by Dow Jones anticipate a 0.5% gain in CPI month over month and a 2.5% increase from last year’s level.Tesla gained 3.7% to above $700 Monday after Canaccord Genuity upgraded the stock to buy and raised its price target to $1,071, citing its battery innovations.Fed Chairman Jerome Powell on Sunday reiterated that the Fed wants to see inflation rise above its 2% for an extended period before officials move to raise interest rates.“We want to see inflation move up to 2% — and we mean that on a sustainable basis, we don’t mean just tap the base once,” Powell said in an interview that aired Sunday evening on CBS News’ “60 Minutes.” “But then we’d also like to see it on track to move moderately above 2% for some time.”He added that amid an accelerated Covid-19 vaccine rollout and strong fiscal support, the U.S. economy appears to be at a turning point.Powell will also speak Wednesday at an Economic Club of Washington event.Investors will also keep an eye on President Joe Biden’s effort to advance a major infrastructure proposal known as the American Jobs Plan. Biden, who with other Democrats promised significant an infrastructure overhaul in the 2020 elections, wil lmeet with a bipartisan group of lawmakers on Monday to try to persuade Capitol Hill to back the $2 trillion package.Congress will return to Washington this week and be in session for the first time since Biden debuted his proposal, which earmarks hundreds of billions of dollars for roads, bridges, airports, broadband, electric vehicles, housing and job training. The president’s plan would also increase the corporate tax rate to 28% and crack down on other overseas tax avoidance strategies.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":108,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":372168867,"gmtCreate":1619186547159,"gmtModify":1634287908140,"author":{"id":"3575955563694893","authorId":"3575955563694893","name":"T20211126001","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42cf33544f719c12b3a2aa7e6bd084b1","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575955563694893","authorIdStr":"3575955563694893"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please help to trend my post!! But he thinks the concern is misplaced.
\n
Daryanani projects Apple can reach more than $7 a share in profits by the September 2025 fiscal year, up from a Wall Street analyst consensus view of $4.45 a share for fiscal 2021—driven by a combination of better monetization of the installed base with services and wearables, gross margin expansion, stock buybacks, and new products.
\n
Apple has a path to $100 billion in revenue from services by fiscal 2025, he argues, driving margin expansion and smoothing out the more cyclical hardware business.Apple had fiscal-2020 services revenue of about $54 billion.
\n
Daryanani thinks the wearables business can expand to $70 billion, up from $31 billion in fiscal 2020, given relatively low penetration of Apple Watch and AirPods among iPhone users.
\n
The Evercore analyst sees four important potential new sources of growth in healthcare, advertising, cars, and augmented and virtual reality.
\n
Not least, he thinks Apple will buy back close to $500 billion more of its stock through fiscal 2025—close to 25% of the company’s current market valuation. But should producer and consumer prices spike, not all stocks will be impacted equally.
\n
Generally speaking, companies with strong pricing power that are able to pass on the higher production costs to consumers will likely outperform. This is a point that Mad Money’s Jim Cramer has made recently. Here is his quote:
\n
\n “When you try to think of what’s working in this market... I want you to ask yourself, would you be insensitive to a price increase if the company put one through? [What are] the companies that can raise prices without infuriating you? Go buy their stocks.”\n
\n
The impact to the P&L
\n
Are higher prices a good or a bad thing for a company’s financial performance? The answer is nuanced and depends on a few factors.
\n
Holding all else constant, higher prices also mean higher revenues (think of the formula for sales: price times quantity). If the increase in price is decoupled from an increase in product or operating costs, then the hike also helps to boost margins – thus profits as well.
\n
However, “holding all else constant” is not how the world really works. A change in price tends to have an impact on a few key variables, most important of which is demand. If higher prices do not impact units sold by much or at all, this is great news for revenues and, most likely, earnings.
\n
The other piece to consider is whether the price hike fully or only partially offsets higher costs. Assuming the latter, revenues can still benefit without a corresponding positive effect on margins and profits. The complexity presented by the many moving parts makes it hard to determine with certainty how a more expensive iPhone may impact Apple’s financial statements in the future.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Apple Stock: How It Could Be A Great Inflation Play
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nApple Stock: How It Could Be A Great Inflation Play\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-08-28 08:38 GMT+8 TheStreet\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Apple’s iPhone 13 could cost consumers more due to an increase in the price of certain components. Go buy their stocks.”\n\nThe impact to the P&L\nAre higher prices a good or a bad thing for a company’s financial performance? The answer is nuanced and depends on a few factors.\nHolding all else constant, higher prices also mean higher revenues (think of the formula for sales: price times quantity). If the increase in price is decoupled from an increase in product or operating costs, then the hike also helps to boost margins – thus profits as well.\nHowever, “holding all else constant” is not how the world really works. A change in price tends to have an impact on a few key variables, most important of which is demand. If higher prices do not impact units sold by much or at all, this is great news for revenues and, most likely, earnings.\nThe other piece to consider is whether the price hike fully or only partially offsets higher costs. Assuming the latter, revenues can still benefit without a corresponding positive effect on margins and profits. The complexity presented by the many moving parts makes it hard to determine with certainty how a more expensive iPhone may impact Apple’s financial statements in the future.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":67,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":359920384,"gmtCreate":1616324330548,"gmtModify":1634526339716,"author":{"id":"3575955563694893","authorId":"3575955563694893","name":"T20211126001","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/42cf33544f719c12b3a2aa7e6bd084b1","crmLevel":9,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3575955563694893","authorIdStr":"3575955563694893"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Please help to like and response on my comment thanks ","listText":"Please help to like and response on my comment thanks ","text":"Please help to like and response on my comment thanks","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/359920384","repostId":"1117450855","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1117450855","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1616166767,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1117450855?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-03-19 23:12","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Powell says Fed will keep supporting economy ‘for as long as it takes’","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1117450855","media":"marketwatch","summary":"Outlook is brightening, but recovery ‘far from complete,’ Fed chairman says in WSJ op-ed.Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Friday said that while the U.S. economic outlook is “brightening,” the recovery is “far from complete.”In an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal,Powell recounted the moment last February when he realized that the coronavirus pandemic would sweep across the country.“The danger to the U.S. economy was grave. MAJA HITIJ/GETTY IMAGES
\n
Tesla Inc. set its shareholder meeting for Oct. 7 at the Fremont, Calif., factory, with a call for reducing its directors’ terms among the proposals the electric-car maker will bring to the table, the company said in filing late Friday.
\n
One of the proposals calls for each director’s term to be reduced from three years to two years. TheS&P 500is trading near a record high, but has been bouncing around the 4,200 level for more than a month.\nKolanovic, who gained a following on Wall Street over the past two years for his timely market calls during the pandemic, said in a note to clients on Monday that the market was positioned for a breakout.\n“The next leg higher is likely upon us, following the sideways move in markets and bond yields over the past two months, with Cyclicals expected to do better again vs Defensives,” the note said. “Despite peaking in some activity indicators, the market is likely to get comfortable that growth will remain significantly above trend in 2H, supported by both consumer and capex.”\nThe prediction for a move higher in stocks is part of Kolanovic’s larger risk-on view. The trading pattern of the broader market appears consistent with a pause in a bull market and not a set-up for a pullback, he said.\n“Our outlook remains positive for risky asset classes, with expectations for Equities and Commodities to have the highest return, and bond yields to continue their move higher. This pro-risk view is driven by the ongoing recovery from the pandemic ... accommodative monetary stance from global central banks, and still below-average positioning in risky asset classes such as equities and commodities,” the note said.\nThe strategist did warn that market participants and economists appear to be underestimating the risk of inflation in the second half of the year.
