Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is reportedly preparing to launch a higher-end Mac Mini offering a design update and a faster in-house processor.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says the new design will launch in the "next several months." The timing could mean the new Mac Mini will drop along with the planned 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models slated for this fall.
Last November, Apple updated the older Mac Mini with its in-house M1 silicon but also kept the higher-end version with the Intel processor around. The general Mac Mini design hasn't been overhauled in more than a decade.
The Mac Mini refresh will reportedly replace the Intel processor with M1X silicon for a performance boost. Previous reports suggested the new model will include a plexiglass top, magnetic power port and additional ports.
During the fiscal third quarter earnings report in July, Apple reported $8.24 billion in Mac revenue, up from the $7.08 billion in last year's quarter as pandemic-related demand continued.
