Blink Charging(BLNK), which supplies a network of charging stations for electric vehicles, reported record Q3 earnings Thursday, but missed earnings estimates. Blink Charging stock jumped.
EV charging stocks got a boost on Monday when Congress passed the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which includes $7.5 billion for charging stations. President Joe Biden is expected to sign the bill Nov. 15.
"Thus far in 2021, Blink has been awarded nearly $25 million in existing EV infrastructure grants, rebates and incentives," said Blink Charging founder and CEO Michael Farkas in a Nov. 8 statement. "The passage of the federal infrastructure package brings us one step closer to achieving significant funding for the development and deployment of EV infrastructure, a critical component to unlocking mass EV adoption, curbing transportation-related emission and creating new jobs with this fast-growing industry."
Blink Charging is a leader in EV charging equipment and has deployed over 30,000 charging ports worldwide. The Blink network uses proprietary, cloud-based software that operates, maintains and tracks the EV charging stations connected to the network and the associated charging data.
Blink Charging Earnings
Estimates: FactSet expected the company to post a loss of 28 cents a share, more than double the 12-cent loss in the year-ago quarter. Revenue was seen surging to $4.7 million, vs. $900,000 last year.
Results: Blink Charging posted a loss of 36 cents a share on record revenue of $6.4 million.
"Our third quarter results continued the momentum built during the first half of 2021, exceeding our internal expectations with record revenues in both product sales and service revenues as we continued to expand our footprint of charging stations and enhanced our brand recognition around the world," CEO Farkas said in a statement.
Product sales totaled $4.8 million in Q3, up $4.3 million or 766% from the same period a year ago, primarily driven by increased sales of commercial chargers, DC fast chargers and residential chargers.
Service revenues, which consist of charging service revenues, network fees and ride-sharing service revenues were $1.4 million in Q3, up $1.1 million or 425% from the same quarter last year, primarily driven by greater utilization of chargers, an increased number of chargers on the Blink network.
Other revenue, which includes warranty fees, grants and rebates, totaled $0.2 million in the quarter compared to $0.1 million in the prior-year period.
Operating expenses for the third quarter were $16.7 million vs. $4.3 million in the same period in 2020. The $12.4 million increase was primarily due to costs associated with investments in new hires within the sales, operations and IT departments.
BLNK Stock
Blink Charging closed 8.2% higher to 35.51 on thestock market today, trying to regain the 200-day line. BLNK stock jumped another 7% in after-hours trading, following earnings. Shares have an aggressive entry at 40.60, above Monday's high, according toMarketSmith.
Itsrelative strength linespiked up earlier this week, as the stock soared. Blink Charging stock has anRS Ratingof 90 out of a best-possible 99. ItsEPS Ratingis just 2, as it has yet to post a profit.
