(Getty Images/iStockphoto)</span></p>\n<p>U.S. investors remain bullish, despite rumblings out of China and the spike in delta variant infections.</p>\n<p>Cloud companies — those at the forefront of the shift in computing power to distributed models over the internet — are expected to grow at a rapid clip over the next several years, and four of the five largest exchange traded funds covering the space are close to hitting record highs.</p>\n<p>Below is a screen of stocks held by those ETFs, showing which are expected to increase their sales the most through 2023. In an industry with many players at relatively early stages, increases in sales, rather than in earnings, might be the best driver of stock prices.</p>\n<p>To begin the screen, we looked at the five largest cloud ETFs:</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/36209ce827d95e822cad5128be8b146a\" tg-width=\"933\" tg-height=\"664\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Source: FactSet</span></p>\n<p>ETFs might be your best way to take a broad approach for a long-term play on the cloud revolution. If you are interested in any ETF, you should review the fund manager’s website.</p>\n<p>Here’s a comparison of total returns through Aug. 4, along with those for the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF&nbsp;and the Invesco QQQ Trust&nbsp;(which tracks the Nasdaq-100 Index) for comparison:</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/242f135b3c7cca3cbaae3ee574023c1f\" tg-width=\"942\" tg-height=\"577\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Source: FactSet</span></p>\n<p>The ETFs’ approaches differ. For example, the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF&nbsp;is the only one that is actively managed. The others track an index. It is also the only one that holds shares of Tesla Inc.,which makes up 10.65% of the portfolio, according to information posted by ARK Invest on Aug. 5. Tesla is an electric-vehicle manufacturer, but it can also be considered a cloud company because it distributes software updates over the internet continually, and offers other cloud-based services.</p>\n<p>Another holding unique to ARKW among the five cloud ETFs is Walt Disney Co.,which is certainly an important cloud player through its Disney+ streaming service, even if the company doesn’t say directly how much of its sales are derived from that rapidly growing segment.</p>\n<p>As part of its description of ARKW, FactSet says the following:</p>\n<p><i>“Broadly speaking, the ARKW’s managers appear focused on big buzzwords such as Internet of Things, cloud computing, digital currencies and wearable technology. While the fund’s focus may be appealing for investors with conviction in these new technologies, portfolio implementation is a more difficult task: Most of the companies developing these advancements are huge corporations for which nascent technologies are only a small fraction of total revenues. As such, it’s very difficult to get pure-play access to ARKW’s targeted technologies — so be sure to confirm that the fund’s holdings — not just its thesis — align with your view of the space.”</i></p>\n<p><b>Cloud-stock screen</b></p>\n<p>Together, the five cloud ETFs listed above hold 147 stocks. To project sales growth through 2023, we used calendar 2020 sales estimates as a baseline and then looked at consensus estimates among analysts polled by FactSet for the subsequent three years, if available. (The 2020 numbers are estimates, because many companies’ fiscal years don’t match the calendar.)</p>\n<p>To make sure we had a solid set of estimates, we confined the group to the 126 companies covered by at least five analysts polled by FactSet, for which consensus sales estimates for calendar 2020 through calendar 2023 are available.</p>\n<p>Here are the 20 companies projected to have the highest compound annual growth rates (CAGR) for sales through calendar 2023:</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/517a23591cde159fb889ab80abc4bcc6\" tg-width=\"934\" tg-height=\"765\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6af2cf5b5f9f0ce50f8f023ac7babc7f\" tg-width=\"935\" tg-height=\"717\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"></p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b88ebe72e09cb9ce3294269f0a4ae431\" tg-width=\"935\" tg-height=\"403\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Source: FactSet</span></p>\n<p>There are actually 21 stocks listed, including Zillow Group Inc.’s Class A&nbsp;and Class C&nbsp;shares.</p>\n<p>It is interesting to see that the list is dominated by stocks held by ARKW. Each has also been praised by Wall Street for aggressive pushes into electric vehicles as they look to challenge EV leader Tesla (TSLA).</p>\n<p>The 53.3% surge in shares of Nvidia also looks to be rather deserved. Analysts have clung onto the chip-maker's stock this year amid strong results for its gaming chips and crypto mining exposure. The impending $40 billion deal for Arm is also seen as a game-changer for the company's future earnings power.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/89d0da979a5704090ea6cfc7522aeb77\" tg-width=\"1794\" tg-height=\"1080\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"><span>Not too shabby of year for the stock prices of many companies.Goldman Sachs</span></p>\n<p>As for the surprises in the market, there are several that standout.</p>\n<p>For starters, Gap's shares have shot up a mind-bending 68% year to date on optimism over Kanye West's new apparel collection for the retailer and people buying clothes en masse for their post-pandemic lives. But, the company is still seen as a longer term market share loser by most Wall Street analysts.</p>\n<p>Out of the 21 sell-side analysts that cover Gap, only four rate the stock a Buy, according to Bloomberg data. A total of 14 analysts rate the stock a hold, with <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE\">one</a> coming in at a sell.</p>\n<p>Wells Fargo (WFC) shares are shockingly up 50.8% this year as new CEO Charlie Scharf struggles to stabilize the company after its highly publicized account fraud scandal. The bank is generally viewed on the Street as not as fundamentally sound as rivals JPMorgan (JPM) and Bank of America (BAC).</p>\n<p>Meanwhile, five of the top 10 best-performing stocks in the S&amp;P 500 this year are energy companies. While the names appear to be tracking the 45% rise in oil prices this year, the gains are somewhat surprising given the increased ESG focus among institutional investors. ExxonMobil is interestingly up 57.9% this year even as it battles through a board shakeup, a bloated cost structure and questions about the leadership of its CEO Darren Woods.</p>\n<p>Whether the S&amp;P 500 could continue its blistering pace evidenced in the first half is anyone's guess. The aforementioned headwinds to stock prices are unlikely going anywhere, and in fact could blow harder, some analysts say.</p>\n<p>\"You've got two big headwinds facing the market in the next six months that I think is likely to restrain the appreciation. The first issue is higher rates [interest]. So far on the year, the S&P 500 (^GSPC) has rallied 16% — with an 8.5% gain alone in the second quarter. The 40 best-performing stocks in the S&P 500 have notched a median gain of 60.4%, according to data from Goldman Sachs (GS).\nSuch double-digit appreciation on the S&P 500 comes despite several formidable headwinds swirling around, ranging from the Archegos Capital Management blowup in the winter to threats of higher taxes from the Biden administration to a clear change in tone on monetary policy from the Federal Reserve.\nThe top three best-performing sectors of the S&P 500 include energy (+45%), financials (+25%) and real estate (+24%).\nUnderneath the hood of the S&P 500, there have been a host of eye-popping gains as seen below in a new chart out of Goldman Sachs.\nIn the not-so-surprising category, there are 69.1% and 49.1% respective increases in the stock prices of Ford (F) and General Motors (GM). Both auto giants have benefited from strong pricing power amid vehicle shortages brought on by the yawning semiconductor shortage. Each has also been praised by Wall Street for aggressive pushes into electric vehicles as they look to challenge EV leader Tesla (TSLA).\nThe 53.3% surge in shares of Nvidia also looks to be rather deserved. Analysts have clung onto the chip-maker's stock this year amid strong results for its gaming chips and crypto mining exposure. The impending $40 billion deal for Arm is also seen as a game-changer for the company's future earnings power.\nNot too shabby of year for the stock prices of many companies.Goldman Sachs\nAs for the surprises in the market, there are several that standout.\nFor starters, Gap's shares have shot up a mind-bending 68% year to date on optimism over Kanye West's new apparel collection for the retailer and people buying clothes en masse for their post-pandemic lives. But, the company is still seen as a longer term market share loser by most Wall Street analysts.\nOut of the 21 sell-side analysts that cover Gap, only four rate the stock a Buy, according to Bloomberg data. A total of 14 analysts rate the stock a hold, with one coming in at a sell.\nWells Fargo (WFC) shares are shockingly up 50.8% this year as new CEO Charlie Scharf struggles to stabilize the company after its highly publicized account fraud scandal. The bank is generally viewed on the Street as not as fundamentally sound as rivals JPMorgan (JPM) and Bank of America (BAC).\nMeanwhile, five of the top 10 best-performing stocks in the S&P 500 this year are energy companies. While the names appear to be tracking the 45% rise in oil prices this year, the gains are somewhat surprising given the increased ESG focus among institutional investors. ExxonMobil is interestingly up 57.9% this year even as it battles through a board shakeup, a bloated cost structure and questions about the leadership of its CEO Darren Woods.\nWhether the S&P 500 could continue its blistering pace evidenced in the first half is anyone's guess. The aforementioned headwinds to stock prices are unlikely going anywhere, and in fact could blow harder, some analysts say.\n\"You've got two big headwinds facing the market in the next six months that I think is likely to restrain the appreciation. The first issue is higher rates [interest]. The idea of higher rates is typically associated with some lower valuations,\" Goldman Sachs chief U.S. equity strategist David Kostin said on Yahoo Finance Live.\nKostin says the other issue facing investors comes at the hands of lawmakers.\n\"The second issue is tax reform.
