Wall Street headed for its best week in months\nU.S. stock futuresrose Friday, one day after theS&P 500andNasdaqclosed at record highs, boosted by PresidentJoe Bidenreaching an infrastructure deal with a bipartisan group of senators. TheDowalso rallied Thursday, adding 322 points, or almost 1%, heading for its best weekly gain since March. The 30-stock average, after last week’s worst weekly decline in since October, stands about 1.6% away from its record close in early May. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were tracking for their best weeks since April.\n\nDow stockNikesoared 13% in the premarket, set to open at an all-time. The athletic shoe and apparel giant late Thursdayhandily beat estimateswith quarterly earnings and revenue. Nike saw a 73% increase in direct sales through its apps and websites. Nike’s stock pop accounts for much of the rise in Dow futures.\nVirgin Galactic jumped 14% after getting thegreen light from the FAAto fly passengers to space. “The commercial license that we have had in place since 2016 remains in place, but is now cleared to allow us to carry commercial passengers when we’re ready to do so,” Virgin Galactic CEO Michael Colglazier told CNBC.\n\n2. Fed’s favorite inflation indicator set for release\nThe10-year Treasury yieldticked higher Friday, trading just under 1.5%, ahead of the 8:30 a.m. ET release of theFederal Reserve’s favorite inflation indicator. Economists expect the government’score personal consumption expenditures indexin May to rise 3.4% year over year and 0.6% month over month. At the same time, May personal income and spending figures are seen declining 2.7% and rising 0.4%, respectively. Income plunged 13.1% in April on the absence of the prior month’s Covid stimulus checks. Spending in April rose 0.5%.\n3. Infrastructure compromise includes $579 billion in new spending\nThe bipartisan infrastructure compromise includes$579 billion in new spending, with $312 billion of those funds going to transportation projects such as roads and bridges. The plan also puts $266 billion into nontransportation infrastructure, including power, water and broadband internet improvements. Only $15 billion goes to electric vehicle infrastructure and electric buses and transit, a fraction of what Biden first proposed. How they’re going to pay for all this remains under discussion. Democratic leaders on Capitol want to pass the bipartisan framework along with a larger bill to addresses more of their priorities without Republican votes.\n4. Search continues for survivors in Florida building collapse\nBiden has promised to provide federal aid, if requested, in the search for survivors of a partial beachfront condo building collapse outside Miami. At least one person was killed andnearly 100 people were still unaccounted for. Officials did not know how many people were in the tower when it fell early Thursday morning, around 1:30 a.m. ET, in Surfside. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who toured the scene, said rescue crews are “doing everything they can to save lives. That is ongoing, and they’re not going to rest.” Authorities did not say what may have caused the collapse.\n5. Chauvin could face decadeslong sentence in Floyd’s death\nFormer Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvinwill be sentencedFriday for murder in George Floyd’s death, in a case that sparked global outrage and a reckoning on racial disparities in America. Legal experts predict that Chauvin, 45, could get 20 to 25 years. He was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. While he’s widely expected to appeal, Chauvin also faces trial on federal civil rights charges, along with three other fired officers who have yet to have their state trials.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":491,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":124267992,"gmtCreate":1624767665516,"gmtModify":1633948840630,"author":{"id":"3581821277126090","authorId":"3581821277126090","name":"JelynnJello","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581821277126090","authorIdStr":"3581821277126090"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Joe momma!","listText":"Joe momma!","text":"Joe momma!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/124267992","repostId":"1179349173","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1179349173","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624623627,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1179349173?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-25 20:20","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Infrastructure investors like Biden’s deal, even though it’s smaller than hoped. Biden got most of what he wanted in this part of his proposal.”\n(PAVE is up 4% this week, bringing its year-to-date gains to 21%.)\nThe amount agreed upon “Is a large amount of money for this part of the economy,” Jacobs said.\nHow large? Jacobs says that roughly 1.5% of GDP (about $300 billion a year) is spent on public construction each year, so $579 billion (spread out over several years) is more than enough to move the needle.\n“This is going to give a big boost to companies in steel, construction, engineering, and roadbuilding,” he told me, as well as broadband expansion, which is very popular among rural (Republican) constituents.\nWhile most infrastructure stocks are off of their highs, this week has seen significant moves in those stocks:\nWork platforms, cranes:\n\nTerex up 14%\nManitowoc up 9%\n\nEquipment rental:\n\nHerc Holdings up 14%\nUnited Rentals up 10%\n\nConstruction equipment:\n\nDeere up 7%\n\nConstruction services:\n\nSummit Materials up 13%\nMRC Global up 9%\n\nMaterials/metals:\n\nAlcoa up 14%\nCentury Aluminum up 13%\nRyerson Holding up 9%\n\nSteel:\n\nCleveland Cliffs up 8%\nUS Steel up 7%\nAllegheny Technologies up 7%\n\nRoad construction\n\nGranite Construction up 11%\nMartin Marietta up 7%\nVulcan Materials up 7%\n\nEngineering:\n\nDycom Industries up 9%\nAECOM up 7%\nJacobs Engineering up 5%\n\nJacobs noted that engineering firms are particularly well-positioned to benefit from U.S. infrastructure development.\nJacobs Engineering, for example, generates 33% of all revenues from U.S. government contracts, or 44% of U.S. revenues. On its second quarter 2021 earnings call, CEO Steven Demetriou said, ”[A]s far as the U.S. infrastructure stimulus opportunity, I think we’re extremely well positioned with the organic capability we have today.”\nSmart strategy?\nJay Rhame of Reaves Asset Management, which specializes in infrastructure-related industries such as utilities, energy, and communications, said Biden was smart to split the infrastructure proposals from the American Jobs Act into two different pieces, a “hard” and “soft” infrastructure package.\n“This is what Biden ran on, that he can reach across the aisle and make a deal,” he told me. “It wasn’t worth it to hold the hard infrastructure part up over the softer infrastructure issues. Let’s put people back to work, and not get hung up over a debate on things like carbon emissions.”\nOther pieces that could qualify as “infrastructure” are also advancing. The U.S. Innovation and Competition Act passed the Senate two weeks ago, which would provide $252 billion for funding for scientific research, as well as subsidies for chipmakers and robot makers in an effort to compete with China.\nThe next part — the so-called “soft infrastructure” segment — will address clean tech, elderly care, money for schools and hospitals. That will be far more controversial, and may be the part Democrats will attempt to push through using the reconciliation process.\n“That will be the next big fight,” Rhame said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":547,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":124264845,"gmtCreate":1624767644487,"gmtModify":1633948841461,"author":{"id":"3581821277126090","authorId":"3581821277126090","name":"JelynnJello","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3581821277126090","authorIdStr":"3581821277126090"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Amc moon","listText":"Amc moon","text":"Amc moon","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/124264845","repostId":"1101793896","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1101793896","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1624624097,"share":"https://www.laohu8.com/m/news/1101793896?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-06-25 20:28","market":"us","language":"en","title":"AMC stock set to snap 4-week win streak","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1101793896","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"Shares of AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc.AMC,-2.74%fell 2.5% in premarket trading Friday, which puts","content":"
Shares of AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc.AMC,-2.74%fell 2.5% in premarket trading Friday, which putsthe meme stockon track to snap a four-week win streak in which it rocketed nearly fivefold.
\n
The movie theater chain's stock has lost 4.3% so far this week, after soaring 390.6% over the previous four weeks. Financials were the best-performing S&P 500 sector with a 1.3% gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 237.02 points, or 0.7%, to 34,433.84, sitting less than 2% from its record. The Nasdaq Composite erased earlier gains and closed 0.1% lower at 14,360.39 amid a rise in bond yields. The 10-year Treasury yield jumped 4 basis points to 1.52%.\nThe S&P 500 rallied 2.7% for the week, notching its biggest weekly gain since early February. The Dow gained 3.4% this week for its best week since mid-March, while the Nasdaq advanced 2.4%.\nFriday’s rally came after a key inflation indicator that the Federal Reserve uses to set policy rose 3.4% in May, the fastest increase since the early 1990s, the Commerce Department reported Friday. The reading matched the expectation from economists polled by Dow Jones. The core index rose 0.5% for the month, which actually was below the 0.6% estimate.\nThe core personal consumption expenditures price index increase reflects the rapid pace of economic expansion and resulting price pressures, and amplified how far the nation has come since the pandemic-induced shutdown of 2020.\n“This provided support to the Fed’s argument that inflation is transitory and will help allay fears that we are witnessing runaway inflation,” said Anu Gaggar, senior global Investment analyst at Commonwealth Financial Network. “This should continue to provide support to risk assets such as equities.”\nBank shares jumped after the Federal Reserve announced the banking industry could easily withstand a severe recession. The Fed, in releasing the results of its annual stress test, said the 23 institutions in the 2021 exam remained “well above” minimum required capital levels during a hypothetical economic downturn. The decision cleared the way for the banks to raise dividends and buy back more stock, which was suspended during the pandemic.\nWells Fargo climbed 2.6%, while Fifth Third and PNC all gained over 2%. JPMorgan and Bank of America both rose more than 1%.\nNike’s stock surged 15.5%, helping to boost sentiment for the Dow. The company reported earnings and revenue that blew past Wall Street estimates. Digital sales also jumped 41% since last year and 147% from two years ago.\nOn the flipside,FedEx dipped 3.6% despite beating on the top and bottom lines of its earnings. FedEx also gave a strong yearly outlook.\nFriday saw heightened trading volume as FTSE Russell was set to rebalance its U.S. stock indexes at the market close. Bank of America estimated that more than $170 billion worth of shares would be changed hands as a result of 625 changes in total to Russell indexes, including the Russell 1000 and Russell 2000.\nPresident Joe Biden announced Thursday that the White House struck an infrastructure deal with a bipartisan group of senators. The lawmakers have worked for weeks to craft a roughly $1 trillion package that could get through Congress with support from both parties. The framework will include $579 billion in new spending on transportation like roads, bridges and rail, electric vehicle infrastructure and electric transit, among other things.\nThe stock market came back from last week’s swoon induced by worries about a tighter Federal Reserve. On Friday, the Nasdaq closed a strong week on a quiet note.
\n
We're almost halfway through 2021, and investors are trying to get a read on how the second half of the year will go. Despite the current lull in corporate earnings releases, market participants will get three key readings from major companies next week.Nasdaqinvestors should treat these reports as must-read news that could move markets as we pass the six-month mark in the current year.
\n
Bed Bath & Beyond
\n
Bed Bath & Beyond (NASDAQ:BBBY) will report its fiscal first-quarter results on Wednesday morning, June 30. Thehome furnishings stock has gotten a lot of attention both because of its turnaround efforts and because of its relatively new status as a meme stock followed by individual investors.
\n
\n
Bed Bath & Beyond has struggled over the past several years as it fought to come up with a digital strategy to fend off competition from e-commerce giants. Many saw the business as ultimately doomed, and the stock got substantial short interest among investors as a result. Yet activist investors stepped in and aimed to concentrate on the company's most lucrative business opportunities, and now, some shareholders are optimistic about Bed Bath & Beyond's ability to cash in on the reopening economy.
\n
Investors have high hopes for the coming report, expecting Bed Bath & Beyond to return to profitability and produce impressive revenue growth of around 35%. After the gains the share price has seen in the past week, anything short of those lofty aspirations could cause an abrupt reversal for the meme stock's prospects.
\n
Micron Technology
\n
Chipmaker Micron Technology(NASDAQ:MU) weighs in with its fiscal third-quarter report on Wednesday afternoon. The company has taken full advantage of huge rises in demand for memory chips and other products, but investors have seemed increasingly nervous abouthow long Micron's demand will lastgiven the notoriously cyclical nature of the semiconductor chip industry.
\n
To be clear, few investors have any doubts about the strength of the just-ended quarter. Most of those following the stock expect earnings to double year over year, with revenue climbing at a faster than 35% pace. Many see that growth continuing well into next year. The consensus forecast for fiscal 2022 earnings puts a forward multiple of just 8 on Micron's share price.
\n
The key question is how quickly Micron and its competitors will ramp up production capacity in order to meet higher demand. In the past, upward cycles in the chip market ended because companies like Micron boost production too far, creating gluts of chips and sending prices plunging. That in turn crushes profits, making low price-to-earnings ratios into value traps for the unwary. All eyes will be on Micron's report to see not only how things have gone, but also what the future holds for it and its rivals.
\n
Walgreens Boots Alliance
\n
Lastly,Walgreen Boots Alliance(NASDAQ:WBA) will offer its latest look at earnings on Thursday, July 1. On Friday, the Nasdaq closed a strong week on a quiet note.\nWe're almost halfway through 2021, and investors are trying to get a read on how the second half of the year will go. Despite the current lull in corporate earnings releases, market participants will get three key readings from major companies next week.Nasdaqinvestors should treat these reports as must-read news that could move markets as we pass the six-month mark in the current year.\nBed Bath & Beyond\nBed Bath & Beyond (NASDAQ:BBBY) will report its fiscal first-quarter results on Wednesday morning, June 30. Thehome furnishings stock has gotten a lot of attention both because of its turnaround efforts and because of its relatively new status as a meme stock followed by individual investors.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nBed Bath & Beyond has struggled over the past several years as it fought to come up with a digital strategy to fend off competition from e-commerce giants. Many saw the business as ultimately doomed, and the stock got substantial short interest among investors as a result. Yet activist investors stepped in and aimed to concentrate on the company's most lucrative business opportunities, and now, some shareholders are optimistic about Bed Bath & Beyond's ability to cash in on the reopening economy.\nInvestors have high hopes for the coming report, expecting Bed Bath & Beyond to return to profitability and produce impressive revenue growth of around 35%. After the gains the share price has seen in the past week, anything short of those lofty aspirations could cause an abrupt reversal for the meme stock's prospects.\nMicron Technology\nChipmaker Micron Technology(NASDAQ:MU) weighs in with its fiscal third-quarter report on Wednesday afternoon. The company has taken full advantage of huge rises in demand for memory chips and other products, but investors have seemed increasingly nervous abouthow long Micron's demand will lastgiven the notoriously cyclical nature of the semiconductor chip industry.\nTo be clear, few investors have any doubts about the strength of the just-ended quarter. Most of those following the stock expect earnings to double year over year, with revenue climbing at a faster than 35% pace. Many see that growth continuing well into next year. The consensus forecast for fiscal 2022 earnings puts a forward multiple of just 8 on Micron's share price.\nThe key question is how quickly Micron and its competitors will ramp up production capacity in order to meet higher demand. In the past, upward cycles in the chip market ended because companies like Micron boost production too far, creating gluts of chips and sending prices plunging. That in turn crushes profits, making low price-to-earnings ratios into value traps for the unwary. All eyes will be on Micron's report to see not only how things have gone, but also what the future holds for it and its rivals.\nWalgreens Boots Alliance\nLastly,Walgreen Boots Alliance(NASDAQ:WBA) will offer its latest look at earnings on Thursday, July 1. Investors are expecting a mixed picture from the giant drugstore chain, with revenue likely slipping a bit from year-ago levels but profits jumping by nearly 65%.\nInvestors will watch how Walgreens has done in administering COVID-19 vaccines, which has been a one-time boon for the industry generally. However, of greater long-term concern will be any comments on whether the possibility of e-commerce giant Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) challenging Walgreens' business more directly could cause problems.\nWalgreens will have to have a strategy for how to build on momentum from COVID-related impacts. If the drugstore chain can't deliver, then the relatively stagnant performance of its stock could continue further into 2021 and potentially beyond.\nWatch out for surprises\nNews that's close to what investors expect likely won't make a big difference for any of these three stocks or the stock market more broadly.
