While these disruptions are certainly another setback for the airline sector—which has already been hit especially hard by the Covid-19 pandemic—a longtime industry analyst says carriers will be able to bounce back once again.

Airline stocks have come under some pressure as a result, though they have held up pretty well recently. As of Monday’s close,Delta Air Lines (ticker: DAL) was up 6.7% since Dec. 17, versus 3.7% for the S&P 500.Southwest Airlines (LUV) had gained 5.3%, compared with 9.3% for United Airlines Holdings (UAL) and about 7% for American Airlines Group (AAL).

For some perspective on the sector, Barron’s reached out to Helane Becker, an airline analyst at Cowen. She has Southwest and United at Outperform ratings, and Delta and American at Market Perform. Becker responded by email.

Barron’s: How should investors think about the latest wave of flight cancellations and what it means for the major U.S. airline companies?

Helane Becker:It’s a pain to deal with, but as the virus is going through the general population, the same is true for airline crews. They don’t want to be stuck in hotels, either. We think the majors will recover from this latest setback, especially as people have to get home. Also, [the cancellations are] 9% or 10% of the total, and airlines are doing their best to consolidate flights to larger aircraft. In the West there’s winter weather, which isn’t helping either.

Is there any airline that you think is especially well positioned to get through this uncertain stretch?

They’ll all get through it; eventually it impacts everyone. It just depends where you are. Airlines in the southern tier might do better than the northern airlines because of winter weather.

What is your longer-term view of the airline industry?

No change. To have a robust economy there needs to be a robust airline industry. People are tired of being home and want to travel. They are tired of Covid and its variants and just want to move on, and that includes travel.

When can investors expect capital returns from these companies to begin?

2022 should be a transition year but better than 2021.

","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Omicron Is Airlines’ Latest Setback. While these disruptions are certainly another setback for the airline sector—which has already been hit especially hard by the Covid-19 pandemic—a longtime industry analyst says carriers will be able to bounce back once again.Airline stocks have come under some pressure as a result, though they have held up pretty well recently. As of Monday’s close,Delta Air Lines (ticker: DAL) was up 6.7% since Dec. 17, versus 3.7% for the S&P 500.Southwest Airlines (LUV) had gained 5.3%, compared with 9.3% for United Airlines Holdings (UAL) and about 7% for American Airlines Group (AAL).For some perspective on the sector, Barron’s reached out to Helane Becker, an airline analyst at Cowen. She has Southwest and United at Outperform ratings, and Delta and American at Market Perform. Becker responded by email.Barron’s: How should investors think about the latest wave of flight cancellations and what it means for the major U.S. airline companies?Helane Becker:It’s a pain to deal with, but as the virus is going through the general population, the same is true for airline crews. When can investors expect capital returns from these companies to begin?2022 should be a transition year but better than 2021.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1223,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":696821855,"gmtCreate":1640666123969,"gmtModify":1640666124202,"author":{"id":"4089502927615680","authorId":"4089502927615680","name":"AllFathers","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/919bc5fbaa10bcac5c605f3188081ff1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089502927615680","authorIdStr":"4089502927615680"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"🤙🏻✌🏻","listText":"🤙🏻✌🏻","text":"🤙🏻✌🏻","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/696821855","repostId":"1127544468","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1401,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":698793528,"gmtCreate":1640528098980,"gmtModify":1640528099254,"author":{"id":"4089502927615680","authorId":"4089502927615680","name":"AllFathers","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/919bc5fbaa10bcac5c605f3188081ff1","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4089502927615680","authorIdStr":"4089502927615680"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Pls
