The games appear on the large touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. While the name suggests it is intended to be played by passengers, nothing prevented drivers from playing while the car is being driven, according to the documentation associated with the investigation.
\n
Prior to December 2020, gameplay was enabled only when the vehicle was in park, the NHTSA investigation document said. Even if the game is being played by a passenger and not the driver, it \"may distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash,\" according to NHTSA.
\n
The agency's investigation generated widespread media coverage on Thursday ahead of Tesla's agreement to change the games' settings.
\n
\"NHTSA constantly assesses how manufacturers identify and safeguard against distraction hazards that may arise due to faults, misuse, or intended use of convenience technologies, including infotainment screens,\" the agency said.
\n
Tesla has been pushing the envelope in providing driver assist features that allow its cars to slow down, speed up, and even change lanes without active participation from the driver.
\n
The company cautions that drivers using such features, known as \"Autopilot\" and \"FSD,\" for full-self driving, must stay alert and keep their hands on the wheel. But Tesla has been criticized for making it easier for drivers to not pay attention, as well as for a number of crashes involving cars in Autopilot mode.
\n
The NHTSA is currently investigating Tesla for at least 11 accidents involving cars using its Autopilot or other self-driving features that collided with emergency vehicles when coming upon the scene of an earlier crash. Those 11 accidents were responsible for 17 injuries and one death, according to the agency.
\n
US regulators are highlighting distracted driving as a major safety hazard on American roads. NHTSA estimates that 3,142 people were killed in accidents involving distracted drivers in 2019.
\n
The Passenger Play probe started following a complaint filed in November by an unidentified Tesla owner. The complaint said that the feature allows video game play and web browsing while the car is being driven.
\n
\"The video games are allegedly restricted only to passengers. Web browsing is available to anyone at any time,\" said the complaint. \"Why is a manufacturer allowed to create an inherently distracting live video which takes over 2/3 of the screen which the driver relies on for all vehicle information? NHTSA needs to prohibit all live video in the front seat and all live interactive web browsing while the car is in motion. Creating a dangerous distraction for the driver is recklessly negligent.\"
\n
Tesla (TSLA), which rarely responds to questions from the media, did not respond to a request for comment on the probe or the video game feature.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla to pull plug on letting drivers play video games after federal investigation
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nTesla to pull plug on letting drivers play video games after federal investigation\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-12-24 14:54 GMT+8 CNN Business\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
New York (CNN Business)Tesla reversed course Thursday and will no longer allow video games to be played on its cars' touchscreens when they are in motion, bowing to an investigation of the feature by ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"TSLA":"特斯拉"},"source_url":"https://edition.cnn.com/2021/12/23/tech/tesla-safety-probe-drivers-play-video-games/index.html","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1125638714","content_text":"New York (CNN Business)Tesla reversed course Thursday and will no longer allow video games to be played on its cars' touchscreens when they are in motion, bowing to an investigation of the feature by federal safety regulators.\n\"Following the opening of a preliminary evaluation of Tesla's 'Passenger Play,' Tesla informed the agency that it is changing the functionality of this feature,\" said a statement from a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration spokesperson late Thursday. \"In a new software update, 'Passenger Play' will now be locked and unusable when the vehicle is in motion.\"\nThe documentation for the investigation, disclosed Wednesday by the NHTSA, said the feature, known as \"Passenger Play,\" has been available to drivers since December 2020. Yet, this didn’t stop GRAB stock from plummeting more than 20% on the day of the merger.
\n
Since then, investors have continued to give GRAB stock the cold shoulder, with shares falling another 16% to trade at $7.34 at the time of this writing.
\n
Now, before you write off an investment in Grab Holdings, consider that the company is still in the early innings and let’s consider where GRAB stock could go from here.
\n
What’s Behind Grab’s Cool Reception?
\n
Grab is the largest ride-hailing and delivery company in Southeast Asia, with operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serving more than 187 million users.
\n
There are a number of plausible explanations for why GRAB stock has not been well-received by investors.
\n
For starters, growth estimates for the Southeast Asian region have been lowered recently primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic. In September, the Asian Development Bank dropped its 2021 growth forecast for the region to 3.1% from 4.4% previously.
\n
Widespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.
\n
Grab reported its third-quarter results on Nov. 11. Revenue fell 9% year over year to $157 million, with the company citing “a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.” Falling revenue is obviously not something investors want to see, especially from a company that has yet to turn a profit.
\n
Yet, the company did report a 32% year-over-year increase in gross merchandise value, with the dollar value of transactions from Grab’s services rising to $4.04 billion thanks to strength in the company’s deliveries segment.
\n
There’s Reason for Optimism
\n
The deal to go public through the merger with Altimeter Growth Corp. valued Grab at close to $40 billion, which as I mentioned, was a record. The fact that three weeks later GRAB stock has a market cap of about $27.5 billion tells us that perhaps things got a bit too heated. However, there is reason for optimism.
\n
The ride-hailing platform has secured the backing of significant players across related industries, including DiDi Global(NYSE:DIDI),Toyota(NYSE:TM) and SoftBank’s(OTCMKTS:SFTBY) Vision Fund.
\n
Grab Holdings also has some positive catalysts on the horizon. For example, the company recently announced that it will be purchasing Jaya Grocer, a premium supermarket chain in Malaysia.
\n
This acquisition fits nicely with the ride-hailing and delivery business model the company seeks to expand. Management refers to the model as a “superapp” focus, whereby users can access multiple services in a single, convenient location.
\n
The Bottom Line on GRAB Stock
\n
I can’t say Grab Holdings can immediately turn things around. But its potential in the burgeoning Southeast Asian market means it remains relevant and has a long runway.
\n
Of the six analysts following GRAB stock, two rate it a “buy” and there are no “sell” ratings, according to The Wall Street Journal. Yet, this didn’t stop GRAB stock from plummeting more than 20% on the day of the merger.\nSince then, investors have continued to give GRAB stock the cold shoulder, with shares falling another 16% to trade at $7.34 at the time of this writing.\nNow, before you write off an investment in Grab Holdings, consider that the company is still in the early innings and let’s consider where GRAB stock could go from here.\nWhat’s Behind Grab’s Cool Reception?\nGrab is the largest ride-hailing and delivery company in Southeast Asia, with operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serving more than 187 million users.\nThere are a number of plausible explanations for why GRAB stock has not been well-received by investors.\nFor starters, growth estimates for the Southeast Asian region have been lowered recently primarily due to the coronavirus pandemic. In September, the Asian Development Bank dropped its 2021 growth forecast for the region to 3.1% from 4.4% previously.\nWidespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.\nGrab reported its third-quarter results on Nov. 11. Revenue fell 9% year over year to $157 million, with the company citing “a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.” Falling revenue is obviously not something investors want to see, especially from a company that has yet to turn a profit.\nYet, the company did report a 32% year-over-year increase in gross merchandise value, with the dollar value of transactions from Grab’s services rising to $4.04 billion thanks to strength in the company’s deliveries segment.\nThere’s Reason for Optimism\nThe deal to go public through the merger with Altimeter Growth Corp. valued Grab at close to $40 billion, which as I mentioned, was a record. The fact that three weeks later GRAB stock has a market cap of about $27.5 billion tells us that perhaps things got a bit too heated. However, there is reason for optimism.\nThe ride-hailing platform has secured the backing of significant players across related industries, including DiDi Global(NYSE:DIDI),Toyota(NYSE:TM) and SoftBank’s(OTCMKTS:SFTBY) Vision Fund.\nGrab Holdings also has some positive catalysts on the horizon. For example, the company recently announced that it will be purchasing Jaya Grocer, a premium supermarket chain in Malaysia.\nThis acquisition fits nicely with the ride-hailing and delivery business model the company seeks to expand. Management refers to the model as a “superapp” focus, whereby users can access multiple services in a single, convenient location.\nThe Bottom Line on GRAB Stock\nI can’t say Grab Holdings can immediately turn things around. But its potential in the burgeoning Southeast Asian market means it remains relevant and has a long runway.\nOf the six analysts following GRAB stock, two rate it a “buy” and there are no “sell” ratings, according to The Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, the consensus price target stands at $12.25, which represents upside of 67% from current levels.\nGRAB stock is very cheap now, so it’s hardly a dangerous speculative play. There’s a good argument to be made for investing now and hoping that the company continues to expand its footprint. This is more a re","content":"
What happened
\n
Shares of e-commerce giant Sea Limited(NYSE:SE)were up 10.82% today. This is more a relief rally than anything else.
\n
Sea has been dragged down along with other high-octane growth stocks since news of the omicron variant hit a month ago. Even after today's pop, Sea stock is down some 30% in the last month, erasing what was up until November a nearly 80% year-to-date return in 2021.
\n
So what
\n
It's not surprising that Sea has been volatile as of late. The company's fast growth is undeniable, riding the wave of fast digitization of the economies of Southeast Asia. More recent expansion into new markets like South America and Eastern Europe are also promising.
\n
However, that growth comes at a cost. Sea uses profits from its video game segment (its marquee game Free Fire) to fuel its e-commerce and digital financial-services divisions -- both of which are currently very unprofitable. The result? A growth stock with lots of potentials, but susceptible to wild swings up and down as investors assess the trajectory of future sales and the eventual payoff for this emerging-markets technologist.
\n
Now what
\n
Here's the good news: While Sea has taken a page from the Amazon playbook and is dumping excess cash back into operations to focus on expansion, there are early signs of eventual bottom-line black ink. As measured by free cash flow, Sea actually swung to a profit this year.
\n
The company generated $342 million in the last trailing-12-month stretch on revenue of $8.3 billion. That's hardly what would be considered a robust profit margin by most value-oriented investors, but it's a solid start for this young company.
\n
But don't worry right now. This is more a relief rally than anything else.\nSea has been dragged down along with other high-octane growth stocks since news of the omicron variant hit a month ago. Even after today's pop, Sea stock is down some 30% in the last month, erasing what was up until November a nearly 80% year-to-date return in 2021.\nSo what\nIt's not surprising that Sea has been volatile as of late. The company's fast growth is undeniable, riding the wave of fast digitization of the economies of Southeast Asia. More recent expansion into new markets like South America and Eastern Europe are also promising.\nHowever, that growth comes at a cost. Sea uses profits from its video game segment (its marquee game Free Fire) to fuel its e-commerce and digital financial-services divisions -- both of which are currently very unprofitable. The result? A growth stock with lots of potentials, but susceptible to wild swings up and down as investors assess the trajectory of future sales and the eventual payoff for this emerging-markets technologist.\nNow what\nHere's the good news: While Sea has taken a page from the Amazon playbook and is dumping excess cash back into operations to focus on expansion, there are early signs of eventual bottom-line black ink. As measured by free cash flow, Sea actually swung to a profit this year.\nThe company generated $342 million in the last trailing-12-month stretch on revenue of $8.3 billion. That's hardly what would be considered a robust profit margin by most value-oriented investors, but it's a solid start for this young company.\nBut don't worry right now. If long-term growth is what you're after and you can stomach the roller-coaster ride that is Sea, this company is amply funded to continue spending heavily. The company had $11.8 billion in cash and short-term investments on hand at the end of September, offset by convertible debt of just $3.5 billion. You want to pick them -- not kick them -- when they're down.
\n
\n
A lot of stocks have been hit hard in recent months, and not all of them are going to bounce back. Some downticks have been fully earned, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Twilio (NYSE:TWLO) or Roku(NASDAQ:ROKU).
\n
Twilio is the leading provider of in-app communication solutions, making your smartphone even smarter. Roku is the top dog among streaming video hubs for TVs, commanding nearly double the U.S. market share of its closest competitor.
\n
You're probably going to spend a lot of time on mobile apps and streaming video in the future, making the recent sell-off in Twilio and Roku that much more appetizing. Even if you have just $2,000 to invest, let's go over why splitting that between Twilio and Roku may be the right choice right now.
\n
\n
Twilio
\n
Twilio shares have fallen by more than 40% since peaking in February, but it's not as if its business is suffering a similar fate. Revenue soared 65% for its latest quarter, and even if you factor out needle-moving acquisitions, you still have a healthy organic top-line growth rate of 38% for the quarter.
\n
Developers lean on Twilio's platform to let users get more done without having to leave the app. From two-way communication without revealing either side's contact info -- like when you're chatting with your food-delivery driver or trying to book a holiday vacation rental home -- to simple things like resetting passwords, you're probably contributing to Twilio's growth without realizing it. There are now more than 250,000 developers as active Twilio customers, and they're spending 31% more on the platform than they were a year ago.
\n
Red ink is a problem, and investors are concerned enough about the losses to detract from the spectacular top-line gains that Twilio is producing in a booming niche. We're only going to be spending more time on smartphone apps, and with that comes the challenge for app developers to make sure they beef up their in-app communication solutions. Twilio's future is bright, even if the stock is now 41% below the all-time high it established earlier this year.
\n
Roku
\n
We're streaming a lot of video from the biggest screen in the house -- our smart TV -- and that's not going to change anytime soon. Roku is the top solution, available freely as the default operating system in 38% of the smart TVs sold in North America. Folks can also buy Roku dongles for as little as $20 that plug into their TVs for access to Roku's free-to-use platform.
\n
Business is strong. Platform revenue soared 82% in its latest quarter. Hardware sales haven't been as kind, and supply-chain constraints and rising costs on that front will linger into the year ahead. The audience continues to grow despite the hardware hiccups, thankfully due to its market leadership in factory-installed new TVs.
\n
Roku plays nice with thousands of streaming apps. It's had a few tense negotiations with media and tech giants to keep them on its hub -- more recently with YouTube and YouTube TV -- but they have always been resolved before starting to get in the way of user growth. Advertisers and providers of streaming apps know that they have to work with Roku if they want to reach younger audiences who aren't consuming traditional marketing outposts.
\n
Roku stock has fallen 54% from this year's summertime highs. You want to pick them -- not kick them -- when they're down.\n\nA lot of stocks have been hit hard in recent months, and not all of them are going to bounce back. Some downticks have been fully earned, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Twilio (NYSE:TWLO) or Roku(NASDAQ:ROKU).\nTwilio is the leading provider of in-app communication solutions, making your smartphone even smarter. Roku is the top dog among streaming video hubs for TVs, commanding nearly double the U.S. market share of its closest competitor.\nYou're probably going to spend a lot of time on mobile apps and streaming video in the future, making the recent sell-off in Twilio and Roku that much more appetizing. Even if you have just $2,000 to invest, let's go over why splitting that between Twilio and Roku may be the right choice right now.\nIMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.\nTwilio\nTwilio shares have fallen by more than 40% since peaking in February, but it's not as if its business is suffering a similar fate. Revenue soared 65% for its latest quarter, and even if you factor out needle-moving acquisitions, you still have a healthy organic top-line growth rate of 38% for the quarter.\nDevelopers lean on Twilio's platform to let users get more done without having to leave the app. From two-way communication without revealing either side's contact info -- like when you're chatting with your food-delivery driver or trying to book a holiday vacation rental home -- to simple things like resetting passwords, you're probably contributing to Twilio's growth without realizing it. There are now more than 250,000 developers as active Twilio customers, and they're spending 31% more on the platform than they were a year ago.\nRed ink is a problem, and investors are concerned enough about the losses to detract from the spectacular top-line gains that Twilio is producing in a booming niche. We're only going to be spending more time on smartphone apps, and with that comes the challenge for app developers to make sure they beef up their in-app communication solutions. Twilio's future is bright, even if the stock is now 41% below the all-time high it established earlier this year.\nRoku\nWe're streaming a lot of video from the biggest screen in the house -- our smart TV -- and that's not going to change anytime soon. Roku is the top solution, available freely as the default operating system in 38% of the smart TVs sold in North America. Folks can also buy Roku dongles for as little as $20 that plug into their TVs for access to Roku's free-to-use platform.\nBusiness is strong. Platform revenue soared 82% in its latest quarter. Hardware sales haven't been as kind, and supply-chain constraints and rising costs on that front will linger into the year ahead. The audience continues to grow despite the hardware hiccups, thankfully due to its market leadership in factory-installed new TVs.\nRoku plays nice with thousands of streaming apps. It's had a few tense negotiations with media and tech giants to keep them on its hub -- more recently with YouTube and YouTube TV -- but they have always been resolved before starting to get in the way of user growth. Advertisers and providers of streaming apps know that they have to work with Roku if they want to reach younger audiences who aren't consuming traditional marketing outposts.\nRoku stock has fallen 54% from this year's summertime highs. This would be an alarming sight if we hadn't seen similar drawdowns before. The stock has fallen between 43% and 61% every year since going public in 2017, only to hit a fresh all-time high the following year. History tells us that buying Roku when the leader amongstreaming service stocks is down is a smart thing to do.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1257,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"CN","totalScore":0},{"id":693743272,"gmtCreate":1640088444927,"gmtModify":1640088444927,"author":{"id":"4102131234533630","authorId":"4102131234533630","name":"Naknak","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ace53ebcca76826c32189de91a930c1d","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4102131234533630","authorIdStr":"4102131234533630"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Omg","listText":"Omg","text":"Omg","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/693743272","repostId":"1165416138","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1165416138","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Stock Market Quotes, Business News, Financial News, Trading Ideas, and Stock Research by Professionals","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Benzinga","id":"1052270027","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/d08bf7808052c0ca9deb4e944cae32aa"},"pubTimestamp":1640087800,"share":"https://www.laohunote.com/m/news/1165416138?lang=&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-12-21 19:56","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Giga Berlin Yet To Receive Production Greenlight Over Pending Documents: Report","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1165416138","media":"Benzinga","summary":"Tesla Inc is yet to submit documents related to its upcoming gigafactory in Grünheide, Berlin, as pe","content":"
Tesla Inc is yet to submit documents related to its upcoming gigafactory in Grünheide, Berlin, as per local publication rbb24, which cited Brandenburg's Environment Minister Axel Vogel.
\n
What Happened:The Austin, Texas-based electric vehicle maker does not have a final greenlight from the local authorities for the official start of production at the Giga Berlin as all requested documents have not been submitted.
\n
\"In order to be able to implement this in a legally secure manner, it is also necessary that appropriate reports are available, and it is regrettable that not all reports are available in this quality yet,\" the report noted in German, citing Brandenburg Environment Minister Axel Vogel.
\n
No further details were provided by the minister on the type of documents that are pending.
\n
Why It Matters:A regional environmental ministry in Germany had last month repeated an online consultation with local citizens to review objections to Tesla’s Berlin manufacturing facility.
\n
The third round of public consultation was open to those who expressed an objection in previous rounds but were not satisfied with the response from Tesla or the environmental ministry.
\n
Musk had earlier said Tesla could start rolling off cars from the production lines at its new Giga Berlin in November or December though achieving volume production at the Berlin factory would take much longer than it took to build the factory.
\n
Musk has previously blamed German bureaucracy for the delay in starting production at the Berlin Gigafactory.
\n
Musk announced the plans to build the Berlin gigafactory in 2019 but construction began last year.
