But the marketrebounded sharply on Monday.\nBTIG’s chief equity and derivatives strategist Julian Emanuel predicts continued volatility in the market, particularly leading up to the next Fed meeting.\n“We tend to be a little bit more cautious. We think the value theme continues to work long term, but what we really like now is what we call ‘defensive value,’” Emanuel said Tuesday on“CNBC’s Worldwide Exchange.”\nValue stocks are names that are trading at prices perceived to be relatively cheap for their returns. Defensive stocks are shares that tend to be stable regardless of how the overall market performs.\nSectors that fit the “defensive value” criteria include healthcare and real estate investment trusts, or REITs, Emanuel said.\nHealthcare has been “overlooked for the better part of the entire rally,” while REITs “are very well-positioned from here,” he added.\nHigher interest rates tend to correlate with higher REIT prices.
