That’s mind-blowing when we consider that many U.S. investors haven’t even heard of GRAB stock.</p><p>The company is well-known in certain regions of the world, though. In fact, Grab is Southeast Asia’s largest ride-hailing and delivery company. It has operations in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam and serves more than 187 million users.</p><p>Yet, while Grab the company may be well-known in Southeast Asia, GRAB stock isn’t particularly popular on Wall Street. As we’ll see, it’s in imminent danger of becoming a penny stock, which can informally be defined as a stock that represents a small company and trades for less than $5 per share.</p><p>That’s a potential problem, and a deep dive into the company’s financials will paint a dark picture of a ride-hailing business with major issues. So, if you’re not yet convinced to stay on the sidelines, stick around and we’ll discover together just how much damage has already been done.</p><p><b>A Closer Look at GRAB Stock</b></p><p>Grab made its debuton the <b>Nasdaq</b> on Dec. 2, 2021, after the company reverse-merged with blank-check company Altimeter Growth Corp.</p><p>The stock started off near $9, and it was all downhill from there. By the end of 2021, the share price has already declined to around $7.</p><p>There was more pain ahead as GRAB stock tumbled to $5 and change on Jan. 21, 2022. To be honest, it’s too soon to establish any support levels for the stock.</p><p>Besides, support levels are established when a stock bounces off of a particular price level. When a stock just keeps falling, there’s no support to speak of.</p><p>Going forward, keep an eye on that critical $5 level. GRAB stock could easily plummet to new lows if the buyers can’t hold $5.</p><p><b>Big Company, Big Problems</b></p><p>With a market capitalization of almost $21 billion, prospective investors might assume that Grab Holdings is a surefire winner.</p><p>It’s a large company, but <i>InvestorPlace</i>contributor Alex Sirois pointed out some equally large problems that Grab Holdings will have to deal with.</p><p>As Sirois explained, “Widespread lockdowns in the region due to recurring waves of COVID-19 have hurt demand for Grab’s ride-hailing services and weighed on revenue despite an increase in food-delivery volumes.”</p><p>We’ll discuss the financial issues in a moment. Sirois’s concerns about Covid-19 in Southeast Asia are duly noted, though – and they’re echoed by some big-bank analysts, apparently.</p><p>Reportedly, analysts at Asian Development Bank expect that Southeast Asian economies will recover at “a much slower pace” than previously thought.</p><p><b>Lockdowns Weighing on Revenues</b></p><p>This, as you might have surmised, is due to the recurrence of Covid-19 in the region. In 2022, the Asian Development Bank analysts expect Southeast Asia to grow by only 5%, slightly lower than their previous forecast.</p><p>Clearly, Covid-19 lockdowns have been a problem for Grab Holdings and could continue to weigh on the company’s revenue and earnings.</p><p>Indeed, for 2021’s third quarter, Grab Holdings acknowledged that the company’s revenue was down 9% year-over-year “as a result of a decline in mobility due to the severe lockdowns in Vietnam.”</p><p>Turning to the bottom-line results, Grab Holdings’ third-quarter 2021 earnings loss increased $366 million, to a staggering loss of $988 million.</p><p>Hence, investors should steer clear as a nearly billion-dollar quarterly earnings loss is quite worrisome.</p><p><b>The Takeaway</b></p><p>Admittedly, Grab Holdings is a famous company in Southeast Asia. It’s a large business, as we’ve learned, with a sizable market capitalization.</p><p>Yet, this company has major problems. In particular, Covid-19 creates challenges for businesses in Southeast Asia right now.</p><p>Then, there are the financial issues. Grab Holdings is moving in the wrong direction when it comes to revenue and earnings.</p><p>It’s understandable if you want to diversify your investments into different world regions. However, not all international stocks are equally worthy of your investment capital.</p><p>So, it’s probably a good idea to avoid GRAB stock for the time being. The stock’s ascent began after Dec. 21, 2020 — starting from there, the stock is up over 1,600%.</p>\n<p>However, it’s worth noting that OCGN stock was trading well below one dollar before it stitched a partnership with&nbsp;<b>Bharat Biotech</b>. The companies announced plans to begin manufacturing Covid-19 vaccines in the U.S. on Dec. 22 last year.</p>\n<p>Beyond the news of this partnership, there has been little to cheer for investors. OCGN stock traded at all-time highs of $18.77 in February and reached slightly lower peaks in May and November. The stock traded at $5.12 at the start of Dec. 23.</p>\n<p>Ocugen will continue to underperform going forward. Even after the downtrend in the last few months, OCGN stock should be avoided.</p>\n<p>Let’s talk about the reasons to be bearish.</p>\n<p>FDA Approval Remains Elusive</p>\n<p><b>Pfizer</b>(NYSE:<b><u>PFE</u></b>) and&nbsp;<b>Moderna</b>(NASDAQ:<b><u>MRNA</u></b>) have been leaders in the vaccine race in the U.S. In a country where more than 70% of the population has already been vaccinated, Ocugen has yet to secure an approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.</p>\n<p>Back in June, the biotech company’s&nbsp;application for emergency use authorization&nbsp;was rejected by the FDA. The recommendation by the FDA was to file for a biologics license application, which implies full approval.</p>\n<p>In November, Ocugen announced that the FDA has “issued a clinical hold&nbsp;on the Company’s Investigational New Drug application (IND) to evaluate the COVID-19 vaccine candidate.” The FDA will be identifying the specific deficiencies that form a basis for the clinical hold. Once Ocugen addresses these deficiencies, there will be some progress.</p>\n<p>The key point is that it’s been over a year since Ocugen announced the partnership with Bharat Biotech. The company has still been unsuccessful from an approval perspective.</p>\n<p>In July, Ocugen had also initiated a&nbsp;rolling submission to Health Canada&nbsp;for the vaccine. There is no positive news on that front either.</p>\n<p>Let’s imagine a scenario where Ocugen receives an approval for vaccine use in Q1 2022. This is very unlikely. However, even in an optimistic case scenario, Ocugen needs to compete in a market where vaccination percentage is high. There is unlikely to be a case for strong revenue and cash flow growth.</p>\n<p>Can Omicron Provide a Lifeline for OCGN Stock?</p>\n<p>The omicron variant has been a cause of concern for governments globally. Ocugen and partner Bharat Biotech are&nbsp;currently studying the effectiveness&nbsp;of the vaccine against the variant.</p>\n<p>If the vaccine proves to be effective, can it be a game-changer for Ocugen? Most likely, no.</p>\n<p>First and foremost, Moderna has announced that its Covid-19 booster&nbsp;increases neutralizing antibodies 37-fold&nbsp;against Omicron variant.</p>\n<p>Furthermore, Pfizer has announced that a third dose increases the “neutralizing antibody by 25-fold&nbsp;compared to two doses against the Omicron variant.”</p>\n<p>Clearly, the leading vaccine makers have an edge. Even if Ocugen announces that its vaccine is effective against the omicron variant, the stock is unlikely to trend higher.</p>\n<p>People who have already taken two shots of Moderna or Pfizer are unlikely to pursue a booster shot with Ocugen. Additionally, Ocugen is still struggling for approval.</p>\n<p>It’s also worth noting that Ocugen needs to share revenue with Bharat Biotech. The visibility for healthy cash flows is therefore very unlikely.</p>\n<p>OCGN Stock Will Trend Lower</p>\n<p>OCGN stock is likely to continue trending lower in the coming months. Without an approval, the company is rapidly losing out on any revenue and cash flow potential.</p>\n<p>The company is&nbsp;building a pipeline of drugs&nbsp;for various indications. However, the pipeline for various indications is still at a pre-clinical stage.</p>\n<p>The stock trend will therefore be dictated by the outcome of Covid-19 vaccine approval and revenue potential. The stock’s ascent began after Dec. 21, 2020 — starting from there, the stock is up over 1,600%.\nHowever, it’s worth noting that OCGN stock was trading well below one dollar before it stitched a partnership with Bharat Biotech. The companies announced plans to begin manufacturing Covid-19 vaccines in the U.S. on Dec. 22 last year.\nBeyond the news of this partnership, there has been little to cheer for investors. OCGN stock traded at all-time highs of $18.77 in February and reached slightly lower peaks in May and November. The stock traded at $5.12 at the start of Dec. 23.\nOcugen will continue to underperform going forward. Even after the downtrend in the last few months, OCGN stock should be avoided.\nLet’s talk about the reasons to be bearish.\nFDA Approval Remains Elusive\nPfizer(NYSE:PFE) and Moderna(NASDAQ:MRNA) have been leaders in the vaccine race in the U.S. In a country where more than 70% of the population has already been vaccinated, Ocugen has yet to secure an approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.\nBack in June, the biotech company’s application for emergency use authorization was rejected by the FDA. The recommendation by the FDA was to file for a biologics license application, which implies full approval.\nIn November, Ocugen announced that the FDA has “issued a clinical hold on the Company’s Investigational New Drug application (IND) to evaluate the COVID-19 vaccine candidate.” The FDA will be identifying the specific deficiencies that form a basis for the clinical hold. Once Ocugen addresses these deficiencies, there will be some progress.\nThe key point is that it’s been over a year since Ocugen announced the partnership with Bharat Biotech. The company has still been unsuccessful from an approval perspective.\nIn July, Ocugen had also initiated a rolling submission to Health Canada for the vaccine. There is no positive news on that front either.\nLet’s imagine a scenario where Ocugen receives an approval for vaccine use in Q1 2022. This is very unlikely. However, even in an optimistic case scenario, Ocugen needs to compete in a market where vaccination percentage is high. There is unlikely to be a case for strong revenue and cash flow growth.\nCan Omicron Provide a Lifeline for OCGN Stock?\nThe omicron variant has been a cause of concern for governments globally. Ocugen and partner Bharat Biotech are currently studying the effectiveness of the vaccine against the variant.\nIf the vaccine proves to be effective, can it be a game-changer for Ocugen? Most likely, no.\nFirst and foremost, Moderna has announced that its Covid-19 booster increases neutralizing antibodies 37-fold against Omicron variant.\nFurthermore, Pfizer has announced that a third dose increases the “neutralizing antibody by 25-fold compared to two doses against the Omicron variant.”\nClearly, the leading vaccine makers have an edge. Even if Ocugen announces that its vaccine is effective against the omicron variant, the stock is unlikely to trend higher.\nPeople who have already taken two shots of Moderna or Pfizer are unlikely to pursue a booster shot with Ocugen. Additionally, Ocugen is still struggling for approval.\nIt’s also worth noting that Ocugen needs to share revenue with Bharat Biotech. The visibility for healthy cash flows is therefore very unlikely.\nOCGN Stock Will Trend Lower\nOCGN stock is likely to continue trending lower in the coming months. Without an approval, the company is rapidly losing out on any revenue and cash flow potential.\nThe company is building a pipeline of drugs for various indications. However, the pipeline for various indications is still at a pre-clinical stage.\nThe stock trend will therefore be dictated by the outcome of Covid-19 vaccine approval and revenue potential.
