The following screen emphasizes expected revenue increases and Wall Street analysts’ aggressive price targets.
\n
For starters, check out how well the S&P Small Cap 600 Index has performed over the past six months relative to the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index and the large-cap S&P 500:
\n
FACTSET
\n
The small-cap fires are raging. If we look further back to the end of 2019, we can see how much worse the small-caps performed during the COVID-19 downturn in February and March 2020, when compared to the large-caps:
\n
FACTSET
\n
Small-cap companies tend to be much more domestically focused than large-caps. They may also be in industries that have been harshly affected by the pandemic, setting up rebound plays as sales recover. So the following list not only looks ahead over the next 12 months with analysts price targets but also takes sales estimates out through 2023.
\n
Among the component of the S&P 500 index, there are 25 stocks that meet these criteria:
\n
\n
Covered by at least five Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet.
\n
Majority “buy” or equivalent ratings among the analysts.
\n
Consensus revenue estimates available through calendar 2023.
\n
Expected three-year compounded annual growth rates (CAGR) for revenue of at least 15%.
\n
\n
The expected revenue growth rates will be of interest to longer-term investors. Other investors might be most interested in how well analysts expect the stocks to perform over the next year. So the list is ranked by implied 12-month upside potential based on consensus price targets:
\n
\n
\n
\n
COMPANY
\n
TICKER
\n
INDUSTRY
\n
EXPECTED SALES The following screen emphasizes expected revenue increases and Wall Street analysts’ aggressive price targets.\nFor starters, check out how well the S&P Small Cap 600 Index has performed over the past six months relative to the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index and the large-cap S&P 500:\nFACTSET\nThe small-cap fires are raging. If we look further back to the end of 2019, we can see how much worse the small-caps performed during the COVID-19 downturn in February and March 2020, when compared to the large-caps:\nFACTSET\nSmall-cap companies tend to be much more domestically focused than large-caps. They may also be in industries that have been harshly affected by the pandemic, setting up rebound plays as sales recover. So the following list not only looks ahead over the next 12 months with analysts price targets but also takes sales estimates out through 2023.\nAmong the component of the S&P 500 index, there are 25 stocks that meet these criteria:\n\nCovered by at least five Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet.\nMajority “buy” or equivalent ratings among the analysts.\nConsensus revenue estimates available through calendar 2023.\nExpected three-year compounded annual growth rates (CAGR) for revenue of at least 15%.\n\nThe expected revenue growth rates will be of interest to longer-term investors. Other investors might be most interested in how well analysts expect the stocks to perform over the next year. But make no mistake about it: The billionaire investor really likes dividends. In fact, he highlighted the huge amounts that Berkshire receives in dividends from a couple of its top holdings in his most recent letter to shareholders.
\n
Berkshire's dividend payments will no doubt increase thanks to some of its recent purchases. Buffett just bought three high-yield dividend stocks. Here's which stocks he scooped up -- and whether or not they're good picks for you too.
\n
AbbVie
\n
Berkshire initiated a position in AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) during the third quarter of 2020 with a purchase of nearly 21.3 million shares. Buffett appears to like the big drugmaker. Berkshire owned AbbVie over 25.5 million shares of the stock by the end of the fourth quarter.
\n
AbbVie's pedigree as a dividend stock is impressive. It's a Dividend Aristocrat with 49 consecutive years of dividend increases. Since being spun off from Abbott Labs in 2013, AbbVie has boosted its dividend by 225%. The dividend yield currently stands at nearly 4.9%.
\n
I think that many investors will, like Buffett, find AbbVie to be an attractive pick. In addition to its great dividend, the stock is cheap with shares trading at less than nine times expected earnings.
\n
The company faces some headwinds beginning in 2023 with the entrance of biosimilars to its top-selling drug Humira in the U.S. market. However, it won't take long for AbbVie to recover. The company expects to deliver modest revenue growth in 2024 followed by high-single-digit growth throughout the rest of the decade.
\n
Chevron
\n
Buffett hasn't been a big fan of the energy sector over the last couple of years. However, he seems to be warming up at least somewhat. In the fourth quarter, Berkshire opened a sizable position in Chevron(NYSE:CVX).
\n
The oil and gas giant is also a Dividend Aristocrat with 33 consecutive years of dividend hikes. Chevron's dividend yield of over 4.9% is juicy enough to catch the eye of most income investors.
\n
There are other reasons investors might like Chevron in addition to its strong dividend. The energy sector could mount a strong comeback this year as the economy reopens. The increasing availability of COVID-19 vaccines combined with the recent stimulus package should help drive the recovery.
\n
Chevron ranks as one of the best energy stocks around. The company continues to enjoy a solid financial position. It reduced capital spending even while positioning itself well for rising oil and gas prices with the well-timed acquisition of Noble Energy. Although the stock is likely to remain volatile, Chevron should still be a winner for investors over the next five-to-10 years.
\n
Verizon Communications
\n
The biggest addition of all for Berkshire in Q4 was its initiation of a position in Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ). Buffett and his team were so enthusiastic about the telecom giant that Berkshire bought around $9 billion worth of Verizon's shares.
\n
So why did Buffett buy Verizon? He almost certainly appreciated the company's dividend. Although Verizon isn't a Dividend Aristocrat, it has increased its dividend payout for 14 years running. The telecom leader's dividend yield of nearly 4.5% provides Berkshire a much better return than parking its money in money market accounts.
\n
Verizon also appears to be poised to be a leader in high-speed 5G networks. Buffett might not be an expert in autonomous vehicles and the Internet of Things, but he definitely understands the importance of a solid infrastructure. And Verizon's 5G infrastructure is massive and growing.
\n
Even with its 5G prospects, I don't view Verizon as a great growth stock at this point. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures were flat.First-time filings for unemployment insurance in the week ended Feb. 27 totaled 745,000, a touch below the Dow Jones estimate of 750,000,the Labor Department reported Thursday.Investors also awaited a speech from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, who is set to join The Wall Street Journal Jobs Summit to talk about the economy later Thursday.Treasury yields, which have been keeping investors on edge in recent weeks, edged up once again. The benchmark10-year Treasury yieldtraded slightly higher at 1.47%. Last week, the rate soared to a high of 1.6% in a sudden move that sparked a big sell-off in stocks.Stocks posted heavy losses during Wednesday’s regular trading as rising bond yields spooked investors. The S&P 500 dipped 1.3%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 119 points, or 0.38%, lower. The Nasdaq Composite was the relative underperformer, falling 2.7% as tech names declined. The index is on track to post its third straight negative week — the longest weekly losing streak since September.Major averages started the week with a surge with the Dow jumping 600 points on Monday, but the rally failed to carry through amid lingering concerns about higher interest rates and tech valuations.“Our current strategy work suggests robust economic growth this year with a modest increase in inflation,” noted Scott Wren, senior global equity strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute. “In attempting to read the tea leaves, the steepening of the yield curve, in our opinion, reflects the market’s belief that growth and inflation should continue to move back toward appropriate levels as the pandemic eases. We view this as a positive for stocks and other risk assets, like commodities,” he added.During Wednesday’s session, one bright spot was companies tied to the economy’s reopening. Shares of airline and cruise line operators advanced after President Joe Biden said Tuesday that the U.S. will have enough Covid-19 vaccines for all adults by the end of May.Additional stimulus measures could also inject optimism into the market. The Senate is currently debating the $1.9 trillion relief packagepassed by the House on Saturday.“Our macro team sees the economy as spring-loaded given the vaccinations and additional stimulus,” Keith Lerner, Truist chief market strategist, wrote in a note to clients. “The ability and desire of the consumer to spend on services and experiences should lead to the best economic growth we have seen in over 35 years.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":431,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":365856364,"gmtCreate":1614729862558,"gmtModify":1703480351139,"author":{"id":"3576362052545340","authorId":"3576362052545340","name":"LingJX","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/abe0fd492dc5910a7f0e81da849306f3","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3576362052545340","authorIdStr":"3576362052545340"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice. Movement in the stock today mirrored that pattern. After an early 10% jump, shares closed more than 3% lower on Thursday.
\n
So what
\n
Shares of the company are down more than 30% year to date after a triple-digit spike in late 2020. The company tends to trade with the electric-vehicle (EV) sector as a speculative stock hoping to revolutionize EV battery technology.
\n
Today, QuantumScape CEO Jagdeep Singh gave an interview to Yahoo! Finance, which may have contributed to the stock's volatile trading.
\n
Now what
\n
During today's interview, Singh reiterated some positive developments the company shared with investors last week in its earnings release. The company is working toward commercializing the solid-state battery technology that could provide EV makers with a safer, faster-charging battery that can also deliver longer ranges.
\n
The company reported it has successfully built its first multilayer battery cell with four layers. This helps confirm the technology is feasible. Singh added that he plans to scale up the technology to have an eight to 10-layer cell by the end of this year. Movement in the stock today mirrored that pattern. After an early 10% jump, shares closed more than 3% lower on Thursday.\nSo what\nShares of the company are down more than 30% year to date after a triple-digit spike in late 2020. The company tends to trade with the electric-vehicle (EV) sector as a speculative stock hoping to revolutionize EV battery technology.\nToday, QuantumScape CEO Jagdeep Singh gave an interview to Yahoo! Finance, which may have contributed to the stock's volatile trading.\nNow what\nDuring today's interview, Singh reiterated some positive developments the company shared with investors last week in its earnings release. The company is working toward commercializing the solid-state battery technology that could provide EV makers with a safer, faster-charging battery that can also deliver longer ranges.\nThe company reported it has successfully built its first multilayer battery cell with four layers. This helps confirm the technology is feasible. Singh added that he plans to scale up the technology to have an eight to 10-layer cell by the end of this year. That would allow the company to deliver sample cells to automotive manufacturers.\nSingh also said there is interest from other sectors for the technology. \"Things like stationary storage for the grid, that's a really important application for batteries,\" Singh stated in the interview.\nSuccessful commercial production is far from guaranteed, however. Any investment should be squarely in a speculative portion of a portfolio. And investors should expect ups and downs for both the business developments and the stock, as was seen with today's jump and drop.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":716,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"following","isTTM":false}
